Need suggestions for a Rogue (3.5)

I'm starting a campaign with a level 3 Rogue, and I've never played one in 3.5, so I'm looking for suggestions for good PrC's for later in the game so I know what you build towards. So far I have found and liked the Shadowdancer class, but I'm not completely set on it yet. Please include book and page number if possible. Pretty much any source material is fine. Thanks!

The slayer looks interesting, even if it requires two meh feats... the mountebanke seems a little odd for my liking, and I don't have access to those Legends and Pairs. Anything else?

Assasin? Avenger (if needing to be good), Hand of the Winged Masters? Hmm.

Trapsmith?

Whats the main goal of the character? Sneaky? Trap guy? A face?

Need suggestions for a Rogue (3.5)

Well that's sorta the problem. I haven't even started playing yet, so I don't know the group's makeup yet to decide if he needs to be more combat oriented, or whatever else. I like being sneaky, but I like stabbing people too, and he's got a high enough charisma that he could be the face of the group too.... hence the problem I'm faced with. So I guess I'm saying, I need help figuring out what the best PrCs are in general, then I can go from there.

I would say go with Rogue/Swashbuckler or Rogue/Bard if going with the 'face'. Or straught up rogue (possibly spellthief).

If going for the combat road, melee? ranged? Assasin or Avenger can work.

Or possibly go Rogue/Sorcerer. It really depends on what the others primary goals and whatnot are :)

I've thought about going sorcerer and then maybe Spellwarp Sniper, but that would mean I have to go 6 levels of sorcerer, and that's a bit too much of a commitment for me to decide just yet. Guild Thief seems pretty good, but I don't know how that will work in the campaign we're in...

Just go straight rogue. Doesn't really need a PRC :)

Based on what you've said there, my advice is to keep your options open. See how his dynamic is with the group and get a good picture in your head of what you see him becoming down the road. Unless your GM has specifically said that you have to be optimized or character death is imminent, whatever fits to be the most fun will be your best choice. There are enough PrC's in 3.5 to cover virtually any concept ypu can imagine.

Re: Need suggestions for a Rogue (3.5)

I was already leaning towards that option, but I figured I would ask you guys what some of the best prestige class options for rogues were, as I've never played one in 3.5, so I have only a limited knowledge pool. The more ideas I can find here, the better I can come up with his future plans. If that makes any sense.
