Archive your RPOL games

Does anyone archive their games?

There are lots of threads... do I have to hit D/L for each one? Or is there a 'D/L All' option somewhere I can't see?

Archive your RPOL games

In reply to chromatophoria (msg # 1):

The Archive function is discussed in the Help System here:

/help/?t=help&page=f_reading

Note that archiving will make all private lines public in the archived copy.

No doubt you have seen the D/L link in your games (usually in the upper right-hand corner underneath Main Menu and to the right of Delete Thread.

This link will download the entire contents of a thread, displaying it in the browser for copy/paste/view operations.  There are certain options to be set when doing this which are fairly easy to figure out.

Both routes are "per thread".  So far as I know, neither an "archive all" nor a "download all" function exists.

OR you could just do what I do, save page. Open the thread completely then right click on it and pick "Save Page as ..." choose the format you want it in, save it to a premade folder. Allot simpler than the above suggestion.

How does one "Open the thread completely"?

This does sound worthwhile, depending on the browser one uses (different browsers may have different options for what formats to save the data in.  I'd want straight text or HTML, not XHTML or XML or anything like that.)

Re: Archive your RPOL games

At the top right of a thread after you've opened it, next to the page numbers, there's an "[all]" button for threads with more than 25 posts. If you click that, you get a single page with all posts in the thread.

This is also how I save threads. I find the DL button kind of limited.

Re: Archive your RPOL games

Thank you, Nerwen.

I'm playing around with my browser now in one of my games.  I've found that I can save a page as a PDF document, which is a compact enough format and includes all the avatars, etc., but does not preserve the color scheme in use.

Now to see if I can save as HTML...  should be in there somewhere.

(I use Flashpeak Slimjet, which is a variant of Chrome).

Aha... under More Tools -->  Save As.  Saving as HTML preserves all settings in play (I use the Dark Red scheme most of the time), and works very well.  PDF is also a useful option, but one definitely has to be careful with the color scheme when saving to PDF.

Re: Archive your RPOL games

Also take care in archiving Adult games, from what was said in another recent thread, all archived threads are visible to anyone.  Probably better to DL the page as per ShadoPrism's suggestion, and then change the thread's group to a number or letter you're not using.

Re: Archive your RPOL games

Archived threads remain in the group they were archived in.

It is also simple to unarchive threads -- (edit the thread and uncheck the box).

Okay, so adult content is protected.  Thanks.  (I think this was discussed previously, but with my memory these days, how would I really know.)

Just saying

Adult threads archived through the Save As or PDF forms would not have the problem of the built in archive system as the Rpol system does not register this form of archiving. Also with the Save As form, if more is added to the thread later you can do another Save As with the same name and it will just add in the new stuff.

What problem would that be?
