Are game Actual Plays a Thing?

Say I was interested in how Four Against Darkness played and if it was worth getting.
Where would I look.
Tried a game search using "Against Darkness" and nothing.

Are there "Actual Plays" available to follow or review?

Not just 4AD but other games.
Preferably solo or ones that don't require (other) players that you have to depend on.

I think he's referring to Actual Plays where you can watch videos of people engaging in the system in question, like Critical Role plays D&D so you can watch it.

(Funny I only just learned the term Actual Plays this morning when I saw a fluff article about their growing popularity!)

Actual Plays are definitely a thing.  Which actual plays you enjoy will very much depend on which groups you like listening to, in general (not just playing a game).  I can't stand Critical Role, for instance, but I enjoy the heck out of RPPR.  If you're looking for specific games, just give a Google for the name and "actual play".  For Four Against Darkness, I found a series on Youtube in a few seconds.

One Shot is another podcast to look at which has a lot of individual games and covers a lot of ground (though I didn't see that particular podcast in my Google).

Text-form APs are, or were, a pretty common thing a few years ago, too. (To clarify how they differ from PbPs, they tend to read like after-action reports or analyses of the game's events and flows that in-character posting).

Yep, actual plays are a thing.  YouTube has loads.  There are facebook groups dedicated to them.  RPG.net has a forum for such (as well as forums for playbypost games).

Googling the name of a game plus 'actual play' should net you some interesting hits.

If audio is enough for you, I recommend either rpgmp3.com or (if you happen to be after Call of Cthulhu and similar) yog-sothoth.com.

In reply to Dirigible (msg # 5):

That is what I had in mind. Not just what happened but how the system feels to play.
Making a buying decision on what was a series of lucky rolls is not the best option.

I would expect text based ones here but I will look at some of the video ones.

(I prefer texted based so I'm not restrained by the speed of the video.)

I find the audio ones (never really bother with video) to be the best if you're looking for game flow.  Even though AP groups tend to be MUCH more focused than any real group I've been part of, the flow is roughly the same.

I do find some on RPG forums that have a play section.
Would have thought that here would be a good place since there are more tools to support gaming.
