Re: Limericks

There once was a small pretty birdie
Who really liked games - she was nerdy
Joining RolePlayOnline
Wasted all of her time
Now she'll be here 'til she's thirty.

Or longer.

Welcome newbie!

There once was a poet from Bliss
Who spoke with a bit of a lisp
He wrote quite a line
And kept very good time
So much that it earned him a kiss!

He liked to play games in a hat
One day he flew up
And fell in a cup
And now he complains about that

There once was a man who could fly
He would always ask questions like why
He had a very cute smile
He became a man of such beguile
And he always tried to match his lie

((  Pretty good! Just remember to match the number of syllables in lines 1, 2, and 5, and then in 3 and 4. I think it's 8-9 for 1, 2, and 5, and 5-6 for 3 and 4. (Or pretty close to it, it doesn't have to be exact. Just say it out loud and listen for the rhythm. :)  ))

There lived a young gamer named Todd
Who in his friend's game would godmod
His friend said no way
You ruin my day
And then Todd was banned by a mod

(Apologies if there actually is a user named Todd.)

I once knew a tambourine man
He would go out to get a tan
"Will you walk with me?
Or sit for some tea?"
Was all he'd say before he ran

Yoss is an owl of course
Please don't confuse with a horse
Yoss might get sore
Or think you a bore
If you state that the owl is a horse

Athena is a fierce zombie,
A fright for all eyes to see,
She will eat your brain,
And not feel your pain,
For no zombie is fiercer than she.

I once shade a cat named Bean
Who frankly was very mean,
He'd hiss and he's spit
And have a huge fit
Unless his fur was dyed green.

And I get to eat mice!
Not to mention my pile of Wots.

Somewhere in the Evergreen plains
Lives a witch with many aims
So many things she tries
So many white lies
O, she takes so many pains

Among all the stormy days
Comes a day with only rains
So the wingless fly
So the ageless die
Hold my hand through the harsh maze
Through these deadly darkened plains

Re: Limericks

Not bad.  If I'm being picky, I'd say your meters don't match very well.

For example:
Somewhere in the Evergreen plains (8 syllables)
Lives a witch with many aims (7 syllables, rhythm doesn't match)

Better:
Lived a witch with some dubious aims

Really though, I wouldn't worry too much.  Do your best and have fun.

With rhyme I'm without luck,
One could claim that I suck,
But I persevere,
With apologies to ear,
I make people say 'What the fudge.'

OOC: Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word!

Re: Limericks

The easiest way to build a limerick is using the following formula (it's one of the most common, too.)

There once was a (two syllables) named (one syllable)
Who (description, match the above syllables - usually eight syllables, though you can change it by one)
He/She (did something, five total syllables)
(something else, five syllables again)
(Result, eight syllables)

And follow the rhyme scheme of:
A
A
B
B
A
