Have your Orc fart in the room, nothing clears out a room like an Orc fart. Can flatulence be a weapon?

Re: Offsite Gaming II

Well, the Wonderland-Oz War bombed as badly as the previous story arc from two years ago. Hundreds of views = two shares (both of which were done by me), zero likes, and zero comments. When people won't care enough to gripe, a story is truly failing. I have discontinued that.

In other news, the game of Doctor Who RPG that I prepped for my home group last has been postponed indefinitely. Our regular GM decided that he wasn't burnt out and wanted to run Shadowrun again after all. If I ever do run that Doctor Who adventure, I am going to try recording the session and releasing it as a special episode of my podcast. It looks like my long running game of Paleomythic on Playbyweb is coming to a close, so the campaign which I'm running here on RPOL is probably the only place anywhere online that this game is being played. The game of Rifts RPG that I've been running at Tank 9, "Dude, Do You Even Rift?!" has finally sputtered out after two or three years. There is some talk of maybe replacing it with a campaign of Breachworld RPG, but I don't think we have the players for it. My other two games on Playbyweb are puttering along (Beyond the Supernatural RPG and an experiment in playing Shadowrun using Open D6).

As a player, the Ghostbusters RPG game in which I have been playing for four or five years is still going strong, and I am very pleased about that. That is basically the only game I would miss if it died.

If I am ever canonized, I will no doubt be remembered as the patron saint of obscure roleplaying games.

So, I've started writing a story, got about 5,000 words in and I'm not sure how I'm going.  I'm not sure whether I've been able to do justice to the different characters.  Maybe I should pare it back?  Anyone feel like editing or otherwise critiquing it?

For what it's worth I thought the wonderland Vs. Oz game was an excellent idea!

Yes but no, I am still editing a novel for a friend. I really need to finish this before I take on anything else.

A friend posted an extremely extensive article on his RPG website. Here is a blurb about it that I wrote for Facebook.

The Anthropology of Elves Return!

A few years ago, the cultures section of Prysus dot com was removed. It's back now, and it's bigger and better than ever. This is a very indepth look at the societies of different races in the world of Palladium Fantasy RPG. Elves and Dwarves and Gnomes and Ogres and Trolls and Changelings and Dragons -- oh my! We're talking about forty pages of materials including new duels, names, and a dragon's hoard of fluff.

My thoughts on the first few races:
  • Humans = humans.
  • Elves = 1900's World War I-era Germans, from their sense of honor to how they create new words by smashing together longer words. Verrücktenirrendiewörterzusammenmaischen.
  • Dwarves = Modern-day Norwegians with their Viking heritage, and how they recreated Bokmål after they regained their independence from Danmark.  It takes a village.
  • Gnomes = Stoners who are always upset with Republicans who're hashing their vibe, man. And everyone else in the world is like a Republican or something.  Dude, we're going to call our child Sunshine Daisy and he can pick a new name for himself when he gets older.  Make love not war!
And I have to head off to bed, but it was a fun read.

I've finally begun my trek through the best Megami Tensei games.  So far I've completed:

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Persona 4
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Devil Survivor Overclocked

I've still got a ways to go.

I've started preparing to run a campaign in an Ancient Roman variant of Call of Cthulhu.

- I'm putting the campaign outline together as a basic conditional operation (if then else) with realistic short term goals underpinned by a more ambitious long term story arc

- This'll be a paper and dice game, (may go online if I can get a feel for the whole GM thing.) We'll be meeting in person and/or via Skype weekly

- I plan to use the first meet to create characters and establish a rapport within the group

- There will be three regular players and one part timer.  All with mixed backgrounds; a chatty rules lawyer, a novice, (lawyer's wife,) someone who is normally a GM with little playing experience, and the part timer last played thirty years ago.  What they have in common, aside from having known me for longer than I've been posting on this board, is that they have neither played Call of Cthulhu nor read the works of HP Lovecraft

Any advice?

To be honest after binge watching a ton of Yugioh over the last week, I really want to start a Dawn of the Duel RP. Been thinking of what mechanics I should use...

Yeah, but since Mark Rosewater can't make his mind up for his sets it's hard to buy in to most new products. Dominaria is pretty kickass though. That and the toxicity of the MTG community isn't very attractive, and that's saying alot being an avant player of yugioh.

That aside, I was thinking a simple RPG mechanic while keeping it mostly freeform.

sounds good to me, freeform is always most fun imho

I think most the toxicity from any card game are it's 5 year old players :P or edgy teen loners :P

online it's better... well, for the most part, it is the internet :P

Then again i guess that's counterintuitive because most people would be more polite to your face, in my experience people online suck a lot less than irl loozers

then again imma total beta autist so wtf cares bout my opinion on sociology (im more of a psychology guy anyway)

Btw it's not maros falt, it might be partially, but making expansions is a team effort i guess.

I have a deep interest in mtg lore, much more than yugioh, but i do think yugioh would be more interesting to rp (the lore preferences thing is likely because i cant remember japanese names at all, kamigawa would have pissed me off lel)

I was far more into MTG lore when it wasn't about the superfriends and was instead about the planes that a planeswalker visited. I'm pretty sure there's a few MTG planes converted to D&D settings, if that's at all something you're interested in.

i'm not too surprised, wotc shares a lot of aspects between their own games, many mtg creature types come from earlier dnd creations :P

im sure it doesnt end there either.

I've not played 3.5, but I wish I had tried it back when I could learn stuff more quickly.

Really like DND, and think 5e is damn good, but I actually have plenty of gripes with it.

Does the cultish fellow play Guild Wars 1 or 2? I've been playing the latter for some months now, and it's some of the most fun I've ever had with gaming.

Unless we count Wizard101 back when I was a wee lad, it's probably also my first MMORPG

Re: Offsite Gaming II

I'm currently playing "another" Call of Cthulhu game by Gaffer link to another game
It is not the first CoC game by that GM that I'm playing as he likes having one-shot adventures that get completed in few months, then he starts again with a new game. This way I played several adventures in different locations and times.
A very nice experience! I definitely recommend it, if you like the genre.
