Offsite Gaming II

Talk about any games you play outside of ASWOT or outside of RPOL.

Note: No Adult rated games or ads may be posted anywhere on ASWoT.  Mature rated games may be posted, however, as long as the ad shows the Mature rating as part of the description.

Come join my DnD3.5 Game!

-----------------------------------
The Guild of the Bronze Hand is a fairly new guild, focused on retrieving items from deep in dungeons and the like, players would start out at levels 2-4 depending on their backstory, and roleplaying ability; when creating a character sheet, create it at level 3, and adjustments will be made by the GM later on. The story is yet to be completely set in stone, and the players will most likely encounter many different game types, ranging from dungeon crawling, to arenas, to diplomatic events, to everything inbetween and then some. The GM is relatively docile, however, wits are a must. additionally, players should be able to post atleast once a day, but posting more is encouraged. The game world is set in a fantasy land, without a name, and is generally sourcebooks only; being able to reference SRD is a must, all types of players are welcomed, from brand new players to advanced, more experienced players.

as long as you read the rules, you will most likely get accepted

If anyone is looking for something a little different, this may fit the bill.  The GM is new to me, but so far as the character creation process has gone, he has been great to work with.

EDIT: Sorry... that might have been a bit too enigmatic, with no description here at all. It is a freeform fantasy based in a setting something like 18th century London.  It includes elements like magic, demons and dragons, but these are used in moderation, and the focus is on character development/role play.

Re: Offsite Gaming II

Not exactly a game, but then again.... Something i've been working on with help. If people like fanfiction stories written by other fans, maybe some of you would like this story, some wont. But oh well.

Title: Dawnless Earth: The Last Sunrise
Rating: Mature (for strong blood/gore)
Characters: Two OCs, most of the Stargate Atlantis characters, a few Terminators of various models
Character pairings: Sheppard/Teyla (married), Sheppard/OC (onesided love).
Summary: The Atlantis team runs into trouble when a woman from the near future is found in the city, Her being there poses a threat to Ataltnsi itself when the team come face to face with a foe they never knew they would face. The Terminators.

reviews are welcomed at the story location. You need not be a registered member of fanfiction.net to leave a review at this story. This story is the prelude fic that happens before the main three books.

Hey there, I saw a game of Nomic in here a few weeks back but forgot to comment on it at the time. I'm running my own game called Nomania (strategy catagory) and we're desperately short on players. Theres an ad up in Players Wanted etc, but I was hoping you might know who it was that took part in your version of nomic. If there's any way I could put a shout out to them about it it would be much appreciated.

Currently the times of internatinoal friendships have been strung tight, anything can break the slender threads that have been setup between America and the Wind Dynasty of China due to unforseen events surrounding the trip of China's Princess, who was to go to America to visit friends, and thus she disappeared when on a cruise in the Bahamas. Her friends, a group of men and women, hellbent on finding the lost Princess and her friend have pooled their resources together and made a small fleet of watercraft, to search the route the unfortuenate cruise had taken. None of those, the friends to the missing Princess, know of the ad printed in the paper, and have thus begun the twenty second week of searching.

Elseware across the globe in China, and America, the ad appeared in June, the Princess had been missing for exactly twenty two weeks. Nobody knows where she is or if she is even alive. Many people have followed the ad and joined the staff at the Ilse complex and labs of Doctor Joshua Banks, an alias of Dr Martin Melbeck, the most insane mastermind ever to walk the earth. Doctor Melbeck has discovered the gentics required to combine human and animal DNA together into new forms.

Needed:

Dr Melbeck               Gentic scientist given a life term for insanity
Tirilgal Melbeck        Daughter of Martin Melbeck (taken)
Prof Julio Shmoot     German marine biologist on loan from Heartfordshire England
Nameless                 Head of Ilse Security Force
Nameless                 Head of Veterinary medicine
Nameless                 Captain of the S&R Yacht Vanguard
Nameless                 Captain of the S&R Yacht Wormwood
Nameless                 Captain of the S&R Yacht Coralskipper
Nameless                 Captain of the S&R Yacht Lady Luna

Various lab rats assistants and crew men for the ships and the Ilse of Dr Melbeck

Game rating: Mature
Game System: Guided Freeform
Game link: link to "the Ilse of Doctor Melbeck"

We are currently seeking captains and crewmen for the S&R fleet seeking the missing princess. We are also looking for players to play the badguys as well, (the bad guys being corrupt paid staff members iof the Ilse as well as Dr Melbeck himself.)

Oblivion (also known as Elder Scrolls 4) is a fantasy RPG where you can follow the main plotline or try the ton of sidequests offered.  Your character is highly customizable with several races, signs, and classes.  There is also a custom class feature.  I'm playing the game on PC but its also for Xbox 360.

Re: Offsite Gaming II

RCT 3 is actually harder because it is all 3D and you xan walk around in the park and such. It gives a resaonable lack of theme park management and such mostly because many of the people going to thep ark and leave wait for the rest of their party to come out. That and duplicates of your made characters come in by the dozen. >.<

one and two are better because you run a park and not have to really care of people waiting for their party to get to gether to leave.

I actually though that added depth.  If you build a large pool though half the park goes over to it usually.

I liked the addition of fireworks, pools, and the ability to ride in a coaster yourself.

Re: Offsite Gaming II

I thought in 3 the fireworks were needed, the fact that the people you created as yourself or a family or friend kept coming to thep ark when they were already there and you'd have a dozen or so of your own clones wandering around made me start thinking that just maybe the main game for 3 would be fine, the two expansions not so much.

Where else can you get motion sickness and not be moving, one guy made the most sickening rollercoaster on 3 he got sick himself.

Though riding Goliath might be fun...

Med shows always have that catch. Scrubs goes into the mind of J.D. and others, M*A*S*H is during a war, and others are just dramatic. Well, what if your hospital was full of movie monsters? What if your Psychologist was Cthulu? What if your kid's doctor was Frankenstein? What if the chief of Medicine, was Dracula? And what if this was a sitcom you were watching about the worlds best hospital?

Time for you to make the story. This is a comdedy game where anything can happen, and you can expect just about anyone, or anything, to be treating you.

And what could be worse? The Hospital Director is Death. How could that be bad?

It's a mature-rated game, where I play Imhotep the First, the doctor, scholar, and architect that inspired the first The Mummy. We've got Cthulhu, Wolfman, Death, a human, and the janitor on staff. We haven't started yet, so now would be a good time to join.

Batman: Testament of Will:

The Batman, The Dark Knight, The Caped Crusader.  This man, this hero, has captured imaginations for generations not because of his great powers but because of his incredible will and refusal to give up.

Evil doers in Gotham think they've finally figured out a way to get to the face behind the Dark Knight. Will they succeed? Or can Batman and the rest of Gotham's vigilantes thwart their plans before the city is propelled into an uncontrollable state of mayhem?

If he survives this plot, what plot will Batman have to thwart next?

This game is our own story with influence from everything Batman.
This game is rated Mature

This game is an original Batman Game. It takes place midway through Batman's career leaving for plenty of room for Canon characters. Feel free to mix up canons as much as you like. Want to make Deathstroke a good guy? Want it so Barbara Gordon was never paralyzed? Go for it. Non-cannon characters are absolutely welcomed as well. See an NPC you'd like to play? Feel free to ask.

This is an advertisement for The Batman Game: link to another game It's located in the Arena, Strategy, Super Hero categories and it is requesting players.
quote:
There are four contendors for the city of Gotham.  Each of them has gathered together in one spot and when the whistle goes all will be released on Gotham -- whoever captures the most supervillains will be crowned as the Real Batman, or whatever title they want.  The rest will be forced to retire or become a Robin or something else equally ignominious.

I was visiting my grandparents and found this game from 1966.  Who wants to play The Batman Game?  I'm looking for 1-3 other people, because I'd like to play too.

Re: Offsite Gaming II

What if you knew how the world would end? What if you knew how an entire race of people would be destroyed? And what if you had the chance to stop it?

The year is 1305 and the world has been turned upside down. Until half a century ago everyone was quite content to go about their normal lives, herding cattle, planting crops, carrying sword or spear into battle for their sovereign, or whatever the case may be... but now, all that has changed. Since the fall of the sinister Circle of Ardreas the nations of the world have come to realize their true history, a history of tragedy. And it has frightened them.

Now the nations of this medieval world have ceased their fighting and are striving to learn, to unlock the mysteries of their ancestors, and to bring about prosperity. And part of their work is the Bacon Science Firm, which has begun work on a secret project that, if successful, would open a window into history like none that has been seen before...

Meanwhile two thousand years in the past, another society seeks answers too. The Ardrean Imperium stands on the threshold of something big, and the people can't help but feel something ominous is coming...

E3 2011 just occurred.  I thought Nintendo had the best presentation by far.  The Wii U (besides it's terrible name) appears excellent for moving Nintendo further.  It tops both the 360 and PS3 in terms of hardware capabilities all around.  Nintendo is getting a lot of third party support for the first time since Gamecube.  The controller seems to include the innovation of the Wii with a more traditional setup for less gimmicky games.

I just hope the online capacity which was not discussed much is greater than the Wiis.  One of the downsides to the Wii was that communication online was hard to accomplish and the first party servers were laggy once reached.  In any case the new system shows Nintendo is not going to be lazy with their hefty lead in the console wars.

Basically most computer RPG's are -- you have a person that is a bunch of stats, and you can gain abilities & stuff by killing tons of stuff.  Sometimes the mass killings are wrapped inside a 'quest'.

There are plenty of single player RPGs where you play a main character in a large and intricate plot.  For an example just look at about any Bioware game from the past decade.

I think the issue is that you lack the sense of free will in a computer game compared to tabletop which is one of the main weaknesses to videogames.

I never buy games 'new' and in the middle of their hype, but I bought this game for $60 and the book for $25 (bundle was $10 off) and I don't regret it.

I'm stunned at how good this game is.

All we need is multiplayer of the same 'ultra huge' kinda game.

I like the Heavy Armor trick that makes your hands-free do melee damage, but it takes forever to get.

The funny part of Skyrim is that most folks are probably picking locks, sneaking, etc -- even paladins?  HA

Saw a bunch of gamer friends days before New Years Eve.
Everyone is hooked on Skyrim!  All of us were using different tactics & races, which was pretty cool.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
One of the guys made 30-40 iron daggers every session until he had 100 SMITHING in 3-4 days.  He said, "All I do is sneak up behind people and backstab them with my Daedric dagger which does 15x damage."
It's not a bad method, I guess, but it's hard to imagine myself making 3-400 iron daggers to level up the Smithing...?

Anyone here done that?

create characters. you basically make up a character that for all intents and purposes is a hacker; they can have whatever life you want based off that. then they get the message mentioned in the intro, your character for whatever reason goes to the address (most likely curiosity) and the game starts from there

Speaking purely from a position of ignorance, what is the difference between the Mature and Adult?

To compare it to the MMPA
Mature is like a strong PG-13 or R
Adult is like NC-17 or X

Re: Offsite Gaming II

As I understand it, yes.
RPoL site policy:
Games on RPoL may be rated either Adult or Mature to signal that they are not suitable for all site users.

Mature games are games which have (as some minor portion of them) mature themes, strong language, drug use, and/or extensive violence.  Mature games use the Mature Content flag to warn potential readers that some of the game material may be considered offensive.  Despite this flag, Mature Games must remain suitable to all ages.

Adult games are games which have as part of their content graphic sex or graphic and gratuitous violence.  Though their story and plot may be very strong and elaborate, they detail sex and/or gore in a way to which children and teens should not be exposed.  Adult games are restricted in access to subscribers1 who are (1) of the age of majority and (2) have specifically requested access to Adult games.  In no case are Adult materials permitted in any public area of RPoL: GMs of Adult games must take care that only those users who are members of their game can view the Adult materials contained therein.

The difference between a Mature game and an Adult game is the descriptive level and the amount of mature content in the game.  Games which focus exclusively on mature content for their plot or which describe such content in graphic detail are required to display the Adult rating.

(1) The Adult flag is not yet restricted to subscribers, though this will change in the future.

Re: Offsite Gaming II

I started a D&D 3rd edition game, Rappan Athuk.  It's the Dungeon of Graves!  Ooh, spooky. link to another game

Create a 3rd level character.  Use any WotC 3.5 book.  If I don't have a book, you may have to scan whatever you're using and send it to me (or cut/paste from your downloaded pdf).

When you die, you can make another character of the same average party level, and that character must either have a different feat somewhere, or have a different class somewhere.  Everything you own goes poof when you die (even if it was ghosttouch).

Make sure you use all errata for whatever you're doing, or I will kill you in game. :p  If I see any sort of Pun-Pun tricks like loops that could be continued forever if you wanted, or something that could obviously be horrendously abused, I'll just politely ask you to leave the game, so don't do that.  Pun-Pun is theoretical optimization and should never actually be played in a game.  You can't cast spells above your character level -- I don't care what feats or abilities you have.

You cannot have an evil alignment.

I expect people to post roughly every day.

In your RTJ, include the word "onomatopoeia" so I know you know how to read.  If you include an example of United States (American) onomatopoeia and tell me what it means then you can create a 4th level character instead of 3rd because I'll know that you know how to look things up (or that you have a nice vocabulary, either way).

I know that roleplaying is roleplaying, but when people are first meeting you, they often have trouble differentiating "you" from "your character".  So play a super easy-going incredibly-helpful character, or whatever persona you want to present.  Other than that, I've had a good time at every similar meetup that I've gone to.  People tend to like being bribed with food, so bring some snacks to share.  Your mileage may vary. :)

Ok, on a completely different tact... I just started in a DnD 5th edition game and we're starting at 5th level.  Among other things, my character has a pair of magical winged shoes.  Someone made a joke about them actually being wingtip shoes, so I did some quick Google searches today for some images and mashed them up.  This is now the canonical image of my character:

Oh, he wears the kilt because apparently humans have a problem with being too easily able to see how manly a person is and apparently your average loincloth doesn't conceal much when walking and doesn't conceal anything when running.  A Kilt allows about the same desirable breeze, and since it conceals slightly better than a loincloth it's more socially acceptable.

Re: Offsite Gaming II

If anyone is looking to connect with me on the XBox network, my handle there is Zaboem. I do not have a gold account, so keep that in mind when sending invites.

On an unrelated topic, I have began a week long exercise in interactive storytelling. On a Facebook page, I will posting a series of artwork pieces and within the captions, I will weave a story. When I write, "I will", I hope that I mean "we will" because I am encouraging the audience to participate and help guide the story by posting to the page.

On a Facebook page which I admin, I showcase various fictional characters, stories, and images which exist in the public domain. I call this page, Superheroes of the Public Domain. When the page was still new, I tried spinning a month-long original yarn about two villains in the public domain, Fantimos and Fu Manchu, in a conflict over who would control the underworld of a fictional city. That story bombed terribly with no interaction from the audience and no shares being made the entire time.

This is a couple of years later now, and the audience of the page is several times larger, so I am going to give this another shot. The story this time is named the Wonderland-Oz War. It takes place shortly after the events of the original The Wonderful Wizard of Oz novel and the subsequent claiming of the Oz throne by Queen Ozma. A spy from Wonderland learns about the political chaos in Oz and how three of its most powerful residents are dead or missing (the wizard and the two evil witches). A full invasion from Wonderland across an imaginary border into Oz will result.

Instead of devoting an entire month to this story, I intend to stretch it out for only a week this time.

Re: Offsite Gaming II

So, that half-orc I linked to?  I'm pretty sure he's about to die.  I think the DM set up a "you all have to run, because you're fugitives from the law, and you're facing overwhelming odds" situation, but he neglected to tell us that there was a window in the "back of the tavern secret meeting room".  (Why would we have a secret meeting in a room that someone could so easily eavesdrop at?)  So my character charged up into the thick of things when we were attacked, instead of going straight out the window.  Plus I just rolled two crit fails on attacks and under the DM's house rules the character lost his two main weapons.  All he has are some daggers now.  FML. ;)

On the good side, I see chaos magic is PHB standard now and I'm jonesing to play that as my next character... never mind.  I just went and looked that up and apparently you only get to roll on the wild magic table 1/20 of the time.  Bleah.

Re: Offsite Gaming II

Well, the Wonderland-Oz War bombed as badly as the previous story arc from two years ago. Hundreds of views = two shares (both of which were done by me), zero likes, and zero comments. When people won't care enough to gripe, a story is truly failing. I have discontinued that.

In other news, the game of Doctor Who RPG that I prepped for my home group last has been postponed indefinitely. Our regular GM decided that he wasn't burnt out and wanted to run Shadowrun again after all. If I ever do run that Doctor Who adventure, I am going to try recording the session and releasing it as a special episode of my podcast. It looks like my long running game of Paleomythic on Playbyweb is coming to a close, so the campaign which I'm running here on RPOL is probably the only place anywhere online that this game is being played. The game of Rifts RPG that I've been running at Tank 9, "Dude, Do You Even Rift?!" has finally sputtered out after two or three years. There is some talk of maybe replacing it with a campaign of Breachworld RPG, but I don't think we have the players for it. My other two games on Playbyweb are puttering along (Beyond the Supernatural RPG and an experiment in playing Shadowrun using Open D6).

As a player, the Ghostbusters RPG game in which I have been playing for four or five years is still going strong, and I am very pleased about that. That is basically the only game I would miss if it died.

If I am ever canonized, I will no doubt be remembered as the patron saint of obscure roleplaying games.

For what it's worth I thought the wonderland Vs. Oz game was an excellent idea!

Yes but no, I am still editing a novel for a friend. I really need to finish this before I take on anything else.

A friend posted an extremely extensive article on his RPG website. Here is a blurb about it that I wrote for Facebook.

The Anthropology of Elves Return!

A few years ago, the cultures section of Prysus dot com was removed. It's back now, and it's bigger and better than ever. This is a very indepth look at the societies of different races in the world of Palladium Fantasy RPG. Elves and Dwarves and Gnomes and Ogres and Trolls and Changelings and Dragons -- oh my! We're talking about forty pages of materials including new duels, names, and a dragon's hoard of fluff.

My thoughts on the first few races:
  • Humans = humans.
  • Elves = 1900's World War I-era Germans, from their sense of honor to how they create new words by smashing together longer words. Verrücktenirrendiewörterzusammenmaischen.
  • Dwarves = Modern-day Norwegians with their Viking heritage, and how they recreated Bokmål after they regained their independence from Danmark.  It takes a village.
  • Gnomes = Stoners who are always upset with Republicans who're hashing their vibe, man. And everyone else in the world is like a Republican or something.  Dude, we're going to call our child Sunshine Daisy and he can pick a new name for himself when he gets older.  Make love not war!
And I have to head off to bed, but it was a fun read.

I've finally begun my trek through the best Megami Tensei games.  So far I've completed:

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Persona 4
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Devil Survivor Overclocked

I've still got a ways to go.

I've started preparing to run a campaign in an Ancient Roman variant of Call of Cthulhu.

- I'm putting the campaign outline together as a basic conditional operation (if then else) with realistic short term goals underpinned by a more ambitious long term story arc

- This'll be a paper and dice game, (may go online if I can get a feel for the whole GM thing.) We'll be meeting in person and/or via Skype weekly

- I plan to use the first meet to create characters and establish a rapport within the group

- There will be three regular players and one part timer.  All with mixed backgrounds; a chatty rules lawyer, a novice, (lawyer's wife,) someone who is normally a GM with little playing experience, and the part timer last played thirty years ago.  What they have in common, aside from having known me for longer than I've been posting on this board, is that they have neither played Call of Cthulhu nor read the works of HP Lovecraft

Any advice?

To be honest after binge watching a ton of Yugioh over the last week, I really want to start a Dawn of the Duel RP. Been thinking of what mechanics I should use...

mtg > yugioh

just kidding that's a subjective opinion, if an educated one ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Yeah, but since Mark Rosewater can't make his mind up for his sets it's hard to buy in to most new products. Dominaria is pretty kickass though. That and the toxicity of the MTG community isn't very attractive, and that's saying alot being an avant player of yugioh.

That aside, I was thinking a simple RPG mechanic while keeping it mostly freeform.

sounds good to me, freeform is always most fun imho

I think most the toxicity from any card game are it's 5 year old players :P or edgy teen loners :P

online it's better... well, for the most part, it is the internet :P

Then again i guess that's counterintuitive because most people would be more polite to your face, in my experience people online suck a lot less than irl loozers

then again imma total beta autist so wtf cares bout my opinion on sociology (im more of a psychology guy anyway)

Btw it's not maros falt, it might be partially, but making expansions is a team effort i guess.

I have a deep interest in mtg lore, much more than yugioh, but i do think yugioh would be more interesting to rp (the lore preferences thing is likely because i cant remember japanese names at all, kamigawa would have pissed me off lel)

I was far more into MTG lore when it wasn't about the superfriends and was instead about the planes that a planeswalker visited. I'm pretty sure there's a few MTG planes converted to D&D settings, if that's at all something you're interested in.

i'm not too surprised, wotc shares a lot of aspects between their own games, many mtg creature types come from earlier dnd creations :P

im sure it doesnt end there either.

I am playing in my first Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition game. I am liking the group, DM, and story but still like 3.5 the best.

I've not played 3.5, but I wish I had tried it back when I could learn stuff more quickly.

Really like DND, and think 5e is damn good, but I actually have plenty of gripes with it.

Does the cultish fellow play Guild Wars 1 or 2? I've been playing the latter for some months now, and it's some of the most fun I've ever had with gaming.

Unless we count Wizard101 back when I was a wee lad, it's probably also my first MMORPG

Re: Offsite Gaming II

I'm currently playing "another" Call of Cthulhu game by Gaffer link to another game
It is not the first CoC game by that GM that I'm playing as he likes having one-shot adventures that get completed in few months, then he starts again with a new game. This way I played several adventures in different locations and times.
A very nice experience! I definitely recommend it, if you like the genre.
