In order to be Monarch/King/Queen/Despot/Dictator/Ruler of the Board, a player must currently have the last post for every game on the front page (Notice threads are NOT included).  The front page is defined as 22 threads, so if you're using a browser that shows a different number, or if you're a GM, then take that into account.  Once you have done this, come to this thread and make your claim!  Please make sure it is obvious when you are claiming and obvious when you are not claiming (just chatting).  The surest way to do this is to put "royalty claim" in your post.  Royalty will be crowned on the honor system, so don't make a claim unless you actually own the front page.  If you can't play honestly, this game will be coming down.

Clarifications: Royalty is gained when a user sees all threads (minus Notice threads) with his/her user name on the front page.  Posting in this thread is just for bookkeeping, but must be done within a few minutes of gaining royalty.  Therefore, if a poster has gained the threads on the front page, but another post comes before the claim is made in this thread, the claim is still valid.

To ease the burden on the Keeper of the Hall (the one who counts these claims for the records), please make sure it is clear when you are claiming (and not claiming) the throne.

Gaea currently has the throne and Grant has NOLIFE.

I doubt it.  Heath, I believe, made the new rule.  If you want just go edit your post.  I doubt anyone's going to really care.  I think Heath simply made the rule to make it easier for him to quickly browse through the thread and see Royalty Claims.

Actually I made the rule.

After updating the royalty thread for the first time in more than two years I realized that there is a BUNCH of chatter on here that makes it difficult to determine what is a royalty claim and what isn't. Add to this the fact that many were claiming in languages I do not speak or using phrases like "Jesus Me" I decided that should I ever stop doing this and someone else starts...

I didn't want them to have to spend 4-5 hours putting the royalty board back together like I was forced to.

On the rare occasion that royalty claims are tallied, multiple reiterations of claims to an already obtained throne will make the task more difficult than necessary.

Please note: I have observed that when confused or forced to work too hard, the person tasked with making the count, for the sake of simplification, negates the claims from the annoying patch, including the legitimate ones.

I'm not only a GM, but I also helped create these rules that your so fond of.  But I haven't claimed royalty in so long, maybe I forgot something.  We used to just say "King me" like in checkers.

Oh well, my reign didn't last long.

Actually, I just looked at the rule again.  Some added a "new rule" that I was not aware of regarding whether it counts.

And yes, I had the entire front page when I claimed.

No none has done 'no life' for awhile, although I liked the old title better.

You would think that, when claiming royalty, the phrase could be whatever the royalty decrees...?
But that's a problem with institutionalized practices -- the reasoning behind the ritual fades over time, but the ritual remains.

(So it appears that I am claiming the throne at a clip of approximately once a year.  My last claim was on the 15th of September 2011 where I noted that it had been a year since my previous royalty claim.  Kinda depressing, really.)

If anyone were interested in taking over the duties of Royal Recorder, that person should read the third post in the Hall of Fame thread.  Updating that post requires simply counting up each claim that is posted in this thread and then putting the new numbers in.  Simple.  (The "time on the throne" metric is optional, but is also farmed off of data in this thread.)

Yeah, the Royalty Claim thing came about a while ago when... I don't know, someone thought that all the different ways of claiming royalty were confusing, and it would be easier if we all just typed the same thing? I don't remember all the details. I just know it happened.

Well then put it in parenthesis at the end, but you have to make it clear it's required on the front page; I did not pick up on that requirement, in fact at the moment it says the rule is to make it clear specifically for the RR, and as I did say I was claiming the throne, I do believe that was 'clear enough', I not only said I took the throne, but I also took a crown...   which I've been easily able to count up for the past archives.  I don't feel it's an issue throwing some story about, perhaps for future RRs we should just make certain that a single ctrl+F word is 'only' allowed to be present in claim posts.  I.E. claim itself, or merely Throne, or Crown (I prefer the idea of throne)

Well, I think as long as you, as the Royal Recorder, understand that someone's claiming Royalty, then people should be able to claim how they want.  I never had a problem with understanding when someone said "king me" vs "I am the emperor of the boards" or whatever.

But it's really up to you, as the Royal Recorder. If having people put (Royalty Claim) at the bottom of their post when they claim Royalty makes it easier, then that's what we should do.

I was actually the first one to require a specific "King me" or "Queen me" statement as the Keeper of the Hall. The reasoning behind it was mostly because so many people were posting in the thread with random statements about taking the throne that I was having a hard time counting the legitimate claims and keeping them separate from the people just joking around.

I'm sure you'll find it in your perusal of the archives. Sometime in 2007, I think...

Well there is already a 'be clear' going on in 2005, I just realize that people call out the false claims almost immediately, and then post the rules, again.  So I tend to sift through well enough.  I do admit joke claims are hard to figure out, however, I do believe it's the joke claim that should not be allowed, rather than inhibit the story of the royals.  Than it just becomes boring and monotonous, and who would want that ;)

I am fine with just have a 'claim word' only allowed to be spoken when the board is owned, it will help the future 'efficient' RRs, and it will allow for a story/game out of it still.  It's like the Worded Story Game, which has only reached stage II.  You give two words that must be in your claim, and the claims don't count unless you have them or some such.  It makes ctrl+F useful, while at the same time allowing story to proceed (I REALLY like stories, can you tell?)  This isn't really necessary, but it's better than just having people say 'royal' me, or claim throne, and nothing more - in my opinion.

I'm realizing this conversation probably should have been moved to the suggestions thread a while ago...   sorry, I hate it when I get on a tangent.

Recorders change, so it's good to have consistency if the person doing the job changes and doesn't have as much time as the previous person.

We also sometimes do a "claim verified" or "bump verified" or whatever to avoid false claims.  It was necessary for bumps because people didn't understand the Bumper Car arena rules very clearly.  I don't think that's necessary here, and could result in missed claims.

Clarifications: Royalty is gained when a user sees all threads (minus Notice threads) with his/her user name on the front page.  Posting in this thread is just for bookkeeping, but must be done within a few minutes of gaining royalty.  Therefore, if a poster has gained the threads on the front page, but another post comes before the claim is made in this thread, the claim is still valid.

*Cough* *Cough* I change my mind, I do like my crown...

In a massive blaze of frost like vortex, white flames burst out through the throne room.  The flames skitter about the surfaces of the room still, clearly freezing everywhere they touched.  A women stands where the flames originated, her cold silver white hair flowing in the wind.  She stands with the disposition of one whom has seen much war, much death...  The girl is Caucasian with bicolored eyes, the right green, and the left a black rose.  She is scared by many runes, and symbols the one upon her head being a Greek mark of Alpha, overlapped by a lamniscate appearing to have healed over a shard from a mirror.

The girl wears a Denim coat, with a tail that reaches just below the back of her knee.  It has a hood, though it is not up, and the entirety of it is clearly home made, as well as several aspect of the rest of her attire.  She wears a tight green cloth top that is cut just below the shoulder, a black corset worn on the outside of this pinches her stomach.  She wears green shorts with black hemming, along with green and black striped stalkings.  Large black leather heeled boots with green laces adds to the green and black look.  The entirety of her left arm bandaged in homemade black wrappings.

The women steps forward, placing her hand out as a voice resounds inside the mind of Fourlegged  "The Crown...   please..."

With all the royalty at each other's throats, she can sit back and watch, not having to worry about assassination attempts or other methods of gaining a throne... maybe, someday, she'll quietly slip into a place on the throne, but for now... she will bide her time...

Lulu, who had previously been decapitated by the guards seeing as they named her a traitor to the plethora of new kings and queens whom rose to the throne after her, rose from her own faked death. Reattaching her horned head to her body she walked quietly into Athenas' kingdom, going into a place she was considered dead was fairly easy as most spent their time too thunderstruck, or too afraid of ghosts, or too ignorant on how to kill the undead, to do anything. With a ghastly grin Lulu crooked her finger and the wreath on Athenas' head floated about ten feet into the air before it burst into beautiful lavender coloured flames, throwing Athena out of the castle with physical force she chuckled gently. After the doors closed behind the previous queen Lulu stepped forward to the throne and sat herself down in an elegant cross-legged manner "King me mother" her quiet but firm voice echoed through the previously deathly quiet room. Quietly one of the terrified guards placed a small silver crown embedded with rubies and glass flowers atop her head, Lulu smiled happily and leaned back with a proud aura
