Pokémon Go Lounge and Stories

Due to the immense popularity of the mobile app, this thread was created to talk about, tell stories of, and just generally brag about anything and everything relayed to Pokémon Go. Have at it!

Battered and bruised, FourLegged slinks into the P.Go Lounge. "That kid with the cap isn't around here?  Good."

I don't play it, but my wife does. She would appreciate any tips people might have which involve catching Eevees. That is her primary interest. She's on blue team.

Catching Eevees? Is she having trouble finding them, or actually getting them to stay in their balls? That's an important distinction.

Team Mystic for the win!  Both Kagura and I are blue team.

Catching Eevee is more a matter of finding them than anything else, I think. Just like with any other pokemon. Kagura will probably be better at giving advice than I am, she gets more time to play. Her commute is a bus through the city, mine involves me actually driving myself.

Pokémon Go Lounge and Stories

I've just seen a few minutes of archival footage of previous Pokémon "Masters" at work and frankly I am horrified.

That Ash Ketchum(sp?) is a villain.  Forcing his pets, (servants?) to beat other members of the animal kingdom so severely that they must bend to his will and be ensnared by the Pokéball.  Even as I condemn young Mr. Ketchum, I know that he is merely a product of the culture in which he was raised.  From birth, he was brainwashed into believing that his ultimate goal in life is to become a Pokémon Master.

The real monster in this tale is Professor Oak.  Encouraging multiple generations of children, (as young as 10 years old!) to go out on their own to hunt and ensnare the world's more exotic fauna for sport!

Are those poor innocent creatures being converted into energy and trapped in some kind of prison matrix? With the strong ones occasionally being released to compete in twisted gladiatorial combat events just to raise their Master's status in the community? To win trinkets of accomplishment. What good are badges when innocent Pokémon suffer?

What does the Pokémon get?  A little sustenance, maybe a pat on the head if they are conventionally cute, and reconverted into energy until their next battle.  Either battle or training.

What is their 'training'?  More combat? Performance enhancing food pellets that force them into metamorphosis well in advance of their healthy natural evolutionary timeline?

Actually Pokémon don't naturally evolve. They have to gain experience through fighting, whether in a gym with a trainer or just for self preservation in the wild. There was one example of an elderly basic evolution that never had to fight so he never evolved.

Are you sure that its evolution?

Or is it mutation?

Maybe the snacks and the gyms are full of mutagens, modified not to effect humans.

Twisted crimes against nature.

I would say you might have a point but they are just as likely to evolve in the wild as that are in captivity. So you have no scientific evidence to support your claims.

Are you claiming that the only way that they evolve is through combat?
Doesn't that take survival of the fittest to an absurd extreme?

So I was in Japan for this past week and one of my stops was at the Pokemon Center Skytree Tower... which also happens to be a Pokemon Go gym.

So naturally I made an opportunity and placed my (region exclusive) Tauros in the gym. It didn't last long, but I have a screen cap!

Something glitchy has happened with my wife's game, and I am wondering if anyone else has been experiencing something similar. While she was at her job last week, an electrical generator blew at the hospital across the street from her job. As a direct result, her building experienced a short black out. Power came back on almost instantly, but the game lost its grip on its GPS status. Her avatar was teleporting all over the place. When it finally settled down the next day, a new complication was left in its place. Instead of telling her that she was inside of the building, her GPS reported that she was in a road on a bridge about a block away. Now, no pokemon appear in the streets. Worse than that, she cannot access the pokestop at her work. It's been like this for her for a week now.

She might have to contact Niantic (which is worse than trying to contact someone still alive using a ouija board) and tell them about it, maybe they can fix it sometime before she retires.

Also Kagura I think that's pretty cool. I would have spent most of my time there depending on how hard it was to keep the gym.

The gym was turning over at a rate of about once every 30-60 seconds. There was some pretty serious lag too, enough that I saw the gym change colors without going "neutral" several times.

Me and the girlfriend drive around and catch stuff just about every day. Has your wife tried the new raids yet? I think they're quite fun, if a little tough for the two of us (I'm level 29, she's 30).

My wife also plays, although she primarily catches stuff. Doesn't do any of the gyms. She's done a few raids, but she has a cheaper phone this time (she broke several in a row) so raids don't run very well.

I've been going through some boxes of stuff, (most of which hasn't seen the light of day in about 20 years,) and I found a green Gameboy Color, (model number cgb-001) along with a Red Pokemon cartridge.  I am going to give it to my young niece.  I wonder how it will be received.

Well, I never played it in the first place so I wouldn't know.

Anyway, I vote we close this thread since it hasn't had a post in over a year.
