Re: Riddle Me This XIV
The great thing about this riddle and what is so frustrating about it, is that so many lines can be taken multiple ways.
In fact, I'm not even convinced the answer is food...
I mean the first line is the most obvious hint to that, but putting it first increases its probability of being a red herring, since putting it deeper in the poem would be more difficult without having it stand out....
Besides that, the second line we are already struggling to place with food
the third is about wet and dryness and SPECIFICALLY not bigness or smallness, which is interesting and doesnt really ring of food to me
the last one might make one think of yeast, but it could also be about gravity in general... in fact i think it may have something to do with the seasons as 'fall' could mean autumn, and 'rise' is a definitively spring-themed word... in fact, now that i consider all this maybe the lines pair up in some way?
So line 1 and 3 and 2 and 4? That is something interesting, that... Because if we pair them this way, you get 'greater than days and moons. Not to rise, in time I fall'
the first part could be literal, and be referring to a length of time... in fact not being measured in size really hints towards this being subjective, rather than the answer being an astronomical object! plus theres few wet meteors anyway ha ha, even if you count ice comets and planets that support water...
measure me in cups and spoons is the most confusing one for this, and I think may be the key to figuring this out. ive got a hunch the answer is using 'cups and spoons' as some sort of terminology, rather than the automatic image your brain generates for them as silverware or measuring instruments...
So, that's not helpful for this line of thought, which is a drawback since I already claimed it seems so important.... though i also said its unlikely the red herring isn't first (or second tbf), maybe THIS line is the red herring for what kind of thing/concept/entity the answer is...
Anyway, finishing this line of thought and huge wall of text, I think 'wet or dry' in referrence to seasons could actually be any of them, since moisture is separate from temperature, though they do work together it's not impossible for all permutations to exist
the season most associated with wetness is spring, and dryness could really be fall or summer, i suppose it depends on your local climate....
So, i'm going to guess the answer is a season, either "Spring", "Summer", "Autumn" or "Winter"
with the sun and moon symbolism, summer and autumn are respectively earning their places, even if you thought my last line of thought on them was weak...
Actually, now that i think about it, the answer could simply be "Seasons"
if that were the case, the final line is fully cleared, the middle two are still strong as ever, and the first line is still a mystery except maybe not, because for all i know 'cups and spoons' could refer to a thermometer, or similar device? im not a weatherman lol
So, those are my five guesses haha
