Kyvarr growled and swore in Catharese but kept it off the comm.  The torpedoes had missed but there was still a chance they'd hit.  They'd also likely distract the gunners.

"We need to keep hitting them and hard.  I also recommend we get anyone with missiles left over here.  We need to get their shields down before they repair them."

Flash watches amused as the latest torpedo barrage misses.

"Honestly Lead.  Can't leave you to do anything.  Come on One Flight.  Let's go clean up Lead's mess.  Hey Four, get a missile barrage ready.  Can't have Captain Blue thinking she's gonna win now can we?"

Flash leads his flight towards Red 1.  "Let's make this quick.  The freighters are politely bunching up so I need to go shoot 'em up once their time is up."

Fiarr grinned as she clicked on her radio.  "Hmmm, I don't know One.  Should we really do Three Flight's job for them?  After all we had that 'thing' to go to.  Not sure we can spare the time to teach the bombers how to nuke capital ships."

Re: Blue Team (Round 9-10)

"Had to open my mouth, didnt I?" muttered Devon. "just had to open my mouth..."
After his taunting comments to Flash, it was deeply ironic that the torpedo barrage had missed.
"OK boys and girls: those torps are still in play, and One flight is setting up for a barrage of their own... if they're not too busy smart-mouthing at me." He glanced at the tactical display for a moment.
"We've killed two CR90s so far, lets make a clean sweep.  Cover for One flight and hit that ship with everything you have.  Drive them away from the freighters if you can."

Diving into an attack run, Devon opened up with his Y-wings cannons for the first time in the sim, lacing the enemy's shield with fire.

Blue Team (Round 11-12)

Red 1 moves at full speed away from the torpedoes closing.  It's aft gun fires ineffectually at the closing torpedoes while the port and starboard guns fire at Kyvarr and Devon as each leads their pair in a flanking attack on opposite sides.  They pour fire in from either side but Kyvarr catches a shot from a turbolaser and loses her shields.

Determined not to be left out, One Flight comes flying up at high speed.  The three Z-95's fire a pair of concussion missiles each while Flash lets loose with his lasers, scoring a hit.

Two Flight seemed to be less sure of it's goals, lazily flying around Red 2 for a little longer before casually moving to regroup with the others.

The team watches in frustration as not only do the torpedoes miss the hull again, but the corvette is managing to regenerate it's shields almost as fast as it was losing it.  Despite the hits Kyvarr, Devon and Flash had made, the corvette had only lost 2% shield power.  If their gunners were as effective as their engineers, Blue Team would be in a LOT of trouble.

But the odds were still in Blue Team's favour.  There were now 8 proton torpedoes and 6 concussion missiles homing in on Red 1, all expected to hit within the next five seconds.  If they hit, it was game over.

And the torpedoes miss AGAIN!  Where did you buy those?  Better hope they blow up before Flash's team's missiles get there!  Both sets of projectiles will get to attack in round 13.  Better hope they do because the corvette is repairing shields as fast as your laser can damage them!

Sheila, you need to start posting or let me know what's going on.

The thirty seconds you gave the freighters has now passed.

"lets go,Two flight." She spoke to her team.  They headed toward the ship along with three flight, cover for the only remaining controllable middles.  She wasn't flying leisurely now, firing guns at the corvette, trying to keep the ships guns looking for them, rather than three flight or the torpedos and missiles in play, and trying to stay out of the missiles' way.

Re: Blue Team (Round 11-12)

Fiarr thought about a witty retort to Kyvarr's request but suppressed it.  Like the Cathar, she was frustrated that their missiles were not hitting the corvette.  She sighed as she noted her single missile left.  She'd wanted to keep it but it seemed a waste.

"One, this is Four.  Taking the flight in for one last missile attack."

Assuming Flash didn't countermand she got on the comm.  "Four to anyone with missiles or torpedoes.  Let's give them one last volley on my mark."

She lined up on the corvette.  "Three, two, one, fire!"

Blue Team (Round 13)

The starfighter screens were a blare of light, the sensors a jumble of blips.  Things began happening so fast that no one person could keep track of it all.  It wasn't until debrief later that the sheer number of hits scored in that five to six second period could be truly appreciated.

The corvette's front turbolasers successfully hit two of the torpedoes that had overshot the corvette and were beginning to turn.  Meanwhile the port turbolaser, hit Blue 10, damaging but not fully knocking down it's shields.

Only Fiarr and two other Z-95's had a missile each.  They launched a volley of 3 missiles, which didn't seem impressive until they and the six missiles already fired smashed into Red 1's rear shields together.  The shields overloaded, then the remaining missiles smashed into the hull.  The shields absorbed most of the damage but not all of it.  While the corvette had taken moderate structual damage it didn't seem to have suffered any major system damage.  It was still active and very deadly.

Meanwhile Sheila had close to within weapons range of the freighters which were helpfully clustering together.  The freighters weren't armed so Sheila could sit idle and shoot them at her will if she wished.

Re: Blue Team (Round 13)

Looping his Y-wing round in a tight turn, Devon switched to open comms again.  Time to see if the enemy commander - he assumed Idaya and her crew were still 'alive', the sim would have ended if they wernt -  was willing to listen to reason.

"Attention corvette captain, attention corvette captain.  Your shields are down, your ship is heavily damaged and we have already destroyed the rest of your squadron.  Surrender and power down and we can finish this with no more bloodshed - your crew will live, I repeat:  your crew will live.  Terms are as follows:  You will power down your weapons, engines and targeting systems; you will not attempt to raise shields.  Freighters are free to launch escape pods - we will NOT target them, we're only here to reclaim illegally seized cargo.  You will be able to pick up those pods once we're done here.  If you keep fighting then we will kill you.  I await your response."

Switching back to Blue teams frequency, Devon said easily.
"Keep shooting till we hear a surrender... or they explode.  Y'know, whichever comes first.  Y-wings:  switch to Ion cannons.  Two - disable those freighters."

Fiarr whooped as the shields went down.  Now it was time to finish them.  "Okay One Flight let's go in together.  Two flight, why don't you join up when you can.  A Z-95's blasters aren't too powerful but together we could make a dent."

She led her group in towards the rear of the corvette, blasters firing.  If Flash ordered her to rejoin with him she would.

Blue Team (Round 14 & 15)

Even as Devon laid out his terms for surrender, Blue team kept attacking.  As one they sensed victory was close and pounced on the corvette like sabercats on a bantha.

The three Z-95's from Two Flight joined up with Fiarr's trio of head hunters and the six ships attacked the stern.  Matching speed with the corvette they kept up a sustained barrage.  Alone a Headhunters triple blasters wouldn't even scratch the shields but together they weakened them.

Devon and Kyvarr let their flight pairs in attacks on the port and starboard.  Rather then match speed they flew in and out to match distance, raking the ship with ion cannon fire.  The aft turbolaser caught Blue 5 and blew it to scrap but Fiarr resolutely kept up her fire.

Flash flew alone, darting in and out, his R-41 stitching the ship with laser fire from bow to stern, then right to left, top to bottom.  The Duros was coming in at a dozen crazy angles.  His fire did little damage but it was impressive to watch.

The greatest danger came from the front.  The corvette had been chasing the remaining torpedoes, clearly trying to stay behind them until they ran out of fuel.  But the corvette had been losing speed.  Probably a combination of power transfers and ion damage.  The speed reduction was enough to allow the torpedoes to shoot ahead, turn and fly back in.  The front turbolaser kept up a withering fire and destroyed several but some torpedoes evaded and smashed into the front of Red 1.

At the last second Devon noticed the corvette pushing all its shields forward which exposed all it's other flanks to the withering fire of the Z-95's and Y-wings.  While the move seemed crazy Devon recognised the sense of it.  The corvette could survive the gunfire longer then it could the torpedoes.  However the Blues used the time to their advantage, blasting the unprotected hull.

As he pulled away from an attack, Devon took a moment to scan the corvette.  She'd taken a beating.  Despite the shield defence the torpedoes had reaped a terrible toll.  The corvette's hull integrity was down to 17%.  One of the forward turbolasers was destroyed.  She also showed damage to her port and aft shield generators.  Her engines and other weapons still read as fully active.

Sheila meanwhile felt like she was on a turkey shoot.  Having reached the freighters she found them all drifting in space less than 2km apart, not moving.  Switching to ions she began stitching the freighters with azure fire.  One freighter quickly reported as disabled and she adjusted her aim to the next before swooping away and flying back in.

So far your surrender terms have been disabled.  Blue 5 has been destroyed but Red team is FAR worse off.

"Frak it." he muttered and switched back to Blue teams comms.
"Well, seems they wanna die... you know what to do."
Leading his AI wingman into another attack, Devon watched how the corvette was manouvering.
"She's trying to turn back toward the freighters... dont let her!  Y-wings: form on me and we'll hit her unshielded side."

Sending more ion fire into the corvettes engines, Devon thought for a moment and got on comms again.
"Two, those freighters look to be playing ball right now - hold your fire unless they misbehave."  Pausing for a moment, Devon mentally groaned at all the internal multitasking necessary to keep track of everything going on and co-ordinate everyone's actions.

Blue Team (Rounds 16-18)

Red 1 turns and moves towards the freighters while the Blue Team continues to pour fire into the beleagured corvette.  Taking advantage of the ship's weakness, they Y-wings regroup and pour ion cannon fire into the undefended port side while the Z-95's do the same at the rear.  The corvette turbolasers fire and score two hits on the Y-wings before power is lost thanks to ship ionisation.  The Blue Team shows no mercy and increases it's rate of fire, quickly reducing hull integrity.  Down, down until the ship explodes and everyone's screen comes up with:

Red 1 has been destroyed.  Simulation terminated.

The hatches of the simulators open, letting fresh air into the each module which had become close and sweaty with the intense action.  The simulation instructor returns and leads the team to their debriefing room.

OOC: Great work guys.  I don't really know if the teams were unbalanced (there are no real rules to follow, it's all guesswork on my part) or the Blue Team just did better.  Anything you want to discuss as Blue team, please do so here, else move to the 'Shore Leave - Take 2' thread

Kyvarr climbed out of her cockpit and stretched.  She was amazed how much she'd actually enjoyed that.  She'd made fun of 'flyboys' for years, disregarding them as people too afraid to get in the real fight.  While she still felt an affinity for tanks she couldn't deny flying was something she wouldn't mind learning more about.

She had dripped with perspiration during the fight.  The tight confines of the fighter matched with her lack of familiarity with the controls had made the sweat pour freely.  Her flight suit clung tightly to her and her fur was matted and tangled.

She moved over to Devon and saluted.  "Sir, permission to grab a shower and change before debrief."  She normally wouldn't consider such luxuries but she was aware of how badly she smelled, well at least to herself.  Humans olfactory senses weren't as acute as a Cathar's so perhaps he hadn't noticed.
