Act 1: Jamie's Team

Consulting the data terminal you learn the starport used by the pirates is a small, privately owned complex located approximately five kilometres east of the docking bay.

Outside the bay there is various hawkers and merchants trying to sell everything.  Airtaxis offer to show you the sights, merchants offer you every product imaginable whilst others beg for credits.

Cyril's team moves around the corner and is lost from sight.

OOC: Well you have a mission, now all you need is a plan!

"Keep your eyes open, Crusaders.  The more we know, the better.  Nirro, focus on local stuff like what the shops sell.  Devon, focus on...well, what you do.  Christian, focus on the people...if anyone seems to be paying too much attention to us, let me know.  I'll focus on searching for...dumps.  An airtaxi might help us get a feel for the city..."

OOC: how much will it cost to get an airborne tour of the city?

As they move through the city (or loiter around the marketplace as the case may be), Nirro surreptiously glances into shops and observes the wares. If the shops are more outdoor stall type affairs he will approach them and inspect the wares as if he were just out shopping. He declines assisstance from shopkeepers and mentally catalogues everythinig he sees.

OOC:  You can take the skybus (which circles the city and stops at various places) for 5 credits a circuit.  Or you could hire an air taxi which will be based on your haggling.  It will cost more but will mean you can go wherever you wish.

Jaime its your call but I vote skybus that way we can see most of what there is to see unobtrusively. Later when we have a feel for the city we can get airtaxis to go to specific locations that we may want to go reconoiter.

Re: Act 1: Jamie's Team

Following along behind the others, Devon just grunted in response to Jamies instruction.

Mainly, Devon was actually doing his job - concentrating on the mission; staying in the surly character he'd chosen for himself and evaluating any vehicles he spotted; but there was a little bit of him that was paying no attention what so ever.  THAT bit of him was doing exactly what it had been doing during the simulation, and having a case of the jitters.

They're going to catch us, I'm going to screw up and we'll be caught... The fact that the pirates would likely just kill them rather than hand them over to the Imps was small concilation...  Devon didnt particular want either to happen.

Calm down. He told himself as they boarded the airbus Calm down.  The captain picked you for a reason.  He thinks your capable - he thinks you can do this.  And he's military, he should know, right?

Devon consoled himself with the fact that the Captain knew what he was doing, and focussed on his job; trying to ignore the slightly panicked little voice at the back of his mind.

Act 1: Jamie's Team - GM Update

The skybus was far from factory fresh.  The seats were covered in grim and burn marks.  Grafitti covered the walls of the bus and it smelled like a herd of banthas had wandered in, releived themselves and then died.

The passengers were a mix of dregs, lower class citizens and local toughs.  None paid Jamie's group much heed as they climbed aboard and sat down.  Each person got on and off like automatons.

The bus driver made up for the drudgery.  A Bothan with an unnaturally cheery demeanour he treated his skybus more like a tour bus.  He kept a running dialogue of all the cantina, brothels and other entertainment venues as he drove, going into many a tale of his adventures at each.

But it was none of these that gained the group's attention but a sight to be seen as they neared the eastern end of the city.  A moderate0sized starport was to be seen.  It boasted several hangers and a large freight facility.  Its security fair exceeded the starport where the group's shuttle was berthed.  High fences withguard towers in the corners stretched the length of the perimeter.  Two well armed guard stood at the main entrance whilst other patrolled the grounds.

The Bothan driver did not disappoint with his commentary.

"Blood Axe Trading Corporation is the largest industry on planet and is responsible for the majority of this fair city's income.  They trade in all manner of goods, importing just about everything you can imagine."

"Look there they go on another trading run."

Indeed as they watched a group of four Cloakshape fighters and two Z-95 Headhunters rose from the ground, escorting a troop transport.  Whilst such transports could be used for carrying cargo, this one looked more suited for docking with ships in space and allowing shock troops to raid the hapless vessel.  The vessel was pure predator no matter what they called it.

The driver had already begun talking about the next spot they would be stopping, which apparently served the best Keldon Skive this side of Malastaire.  He was still contemplating this as he pulled into the next terminal.

Just ask straight out, he thought to himself.  You'll attract more attention by explaining yourself too much...

Re: Act 1: Jamie's Team

After a quick consultation with the driver, Jamie receives the directions to the Spicy Lady cantina.  From the reviews the bus driver gives it you would think it was world-famous.  The ale is the finest, the entertainment top class the clientele are the elite.

A short walk later the group learns the truth.  The Spicy Lady sits in a poorly-lit street, whose shadows keep the area from showing its true filth, even in the middle of the day.  The streets are littered with prosititutes, beggars and disreputable folk.  Many of them watch the newcomers, who are clearly look out of place in such an area, but none approach them.

The inside of the cantina is no better.  The place reeks of spilt ale, vomit and the sweat of dozens of mixed species confines in a poorly ventilated area.  Every pice of furniture has been broken and repaired countless times.  Behind the bar hangs an antiquated, but lethal looking slugthrower.  Judging from the walls, the bartender has used it to keep order on several occasions.

Being the middle of the day the bar is only half-full.  Various career drunks sit alone on stools or at small tables.  Various groups of folk stay huddled in quiet conversation, and at one table a mixed group of aliens are engrossed in a game of sabacc which is quite rowdy and seemingly high stakes.

The group finds a table big enough to seat them all and settles in.

Sprawled out in his chair wth his legs stretched out in front of him, Devon favours the bar in general with a sour expression.

'Spent most my time sat in places like this when I couldnt get work, back before I signed on with- ' the Alliance was what Devon nearly said, but he stopped himself in time. '- the Crusaders.' he finished.

Devon looked round the bar again, not letting his gaze linger anywhere too long.    Apparantly noting everyone, making eye contact with anyone who happened to look at him - letting them know he was aware of them, but not holding their gaze long enough for it to be taken as a challange.  It was a pose he had learned back in his pre-alliance days; some, well most of the business dealings he'd been part of had been less than honest and he'd learned that generally it paid to look meaner than you really were.

Christian sniffed and scratched the side of his head.  He turned to the bar and looked at the bartender.

"Arrgghh!  You rotten little dragnap!"  A shout errupts from the sabacc game.  The large elephantoid alien looked like he could simply step on his opponents for an easy win.

"Ahahaha!  That my friend is how you play sabacc!"  The small squib countered without a shred of fear as he raked in his winnings.

The bartender, a stocky human who looked like he wasn't going any further in life, gazed in that direction and eased towards his slugthrower.  A moment later he returned to his work satisfied the scene wasn't going to get out of hand.  The game continued on.

A sullustan waitress passed by the table Christian and Nirro had choosen.  "What'll it be boys?"  She asked in a cheery voice.

"Well, you just keep your cute little tushy in that chair and that will be right out."  She smiled at Jamie and waited for any other orders before heading off to fill them.

A strange noise started from a small stage in the corner.  It was more like a platform built less than a meter off the ground occupying about as much space as the table they sit on.  A moaning crooning drunk of a man had sat on the chair on the stage and had started droning on into the mic that hung from a wire from the ceiling.

"Rylie, oh my sweetie Rylie,
come back to me, OH RYLIE.
Rylie, my life is little without thee,
come back to me, OH RYLIE.
Rylie, the bottle can't compete with ye,
come back to me, OH RYLIE."

The sad Zabak that was the entertainment for the hour droned on.  He looked drunk and the group was probably glad they were not right next to the stage.  The high notes at the end of the line certainly hurt the ear and any flying debris was unlikely to hit them by mistake.

Re: Act 1: Jamie's Team

Christian wanders over to the sabacc table.  Initally they are hesitant to let a stranger join their game but soon allow him to join him.  This seems less to do with any diplomatic skill on Christian's part, but more his inability to play sabacc.  His tally of lost credits quickly begins to pile up.

The others had moved off to their respective corners when a loud bellowing came from the kitchen area.  Devon came out with a burly Trandoshan chasing him.  The creature is weilding a large cleaver and shouting loudly.

"You know belong in here.  Stay out of my kitchen or you be tomorrow's stew of the day!"

The bellowing immediately has Devon being closely scrutinised by all the patrons in the cantina.

OOC:  For your benefit I am making rolls for each of these encounters and this is what is dictating the results.  Christian has no skill in gambling just as Devon has none in bluff/disguise/entertain/diplomacy/etc.  A score of 0 doesn't help much unfortunately.

So now Devon has just been chased out of the kitchen whilst Christian is successfully losing money.  This may help him with further intel gathering but wont do the groups funds much good!

The fight broke out of nowhere and caught everyone by surprise, including Jamie who saw it happen.  His eye had been on Christian who had been persistantly losing at Sabbac.  A good hundred credits of the Talon's money now sat with one of the other players at the table.  One minute the game had been progressing normally then the man with the credits suddenly lashed out with a right hook that took Grimm right out of his chair.

Christian shook his head from the heavy blow and began to rise.

All around the bar people turned in interest towards the ruckus.

Devon had seen enough bar room brawls in his time that one starting over a drunken sabacc game wouldnt have upset him unduly in the normal course of things - if no one he knew was involved and it didnt turn into anything nastier than a simple brawl; he'd simply have kept out the way...

As it was, the person on the floor was one of his squadmates - which put a whole different slant on things.  As Nirro moved toward the brawl, Devon hung back a little; watching the slicers back.

"Bastard!" yells someone at the sabacc table as he draws his blaster whilst his eyes bore into Jamie, the sound of other blasters clearing holsters was heard around the room.

The bartender dived behind the bar yelling.  "No blasters!  No blasters!".  It was a request that looked like it would be largely ignored.

OOC:  Okay I'm moving this into combat now.  Essentially you've got a bar full of people, many are pulling blasters, others are diving for cover.  You don't know who is planning to shoot and who is just drawing as more of a reflex.  The only one you have some idea of is the one who cursed Jamie.  He's clearly picked his target and you doubt his weapon is on stun.

The room remains suprisingly calm despite the gunfire.  Clearly people are used to the situation unfolding.  Non-combatants quickly vanished out of doors or took cover behind tables much as the Talons were doing.  Likewise the men at the sabacc table took cover.

A blaster bolt struck the table Jamie was hiding behind.  Moments later stun blasts from Nirro and Jamie struck the table behind which the sabacc players were hiding.

Rising to a sitting position Christian drew his own heavy blaster and took aim.  Being on ther flank there was no cover for the gamblers.  At close range few could miss, and the weapon specialist knew his trade.  A single shot took the man who'd struck him through the neck with surgical precision.

The gambler barely had time to realise he'd been shot before he fell to the ground, clearly dead.

Crying out in shock, the two other gamblers who had yet to enter combat flicked the safety's off their wepaons and launched a barrage of fire at Christian who dived behind a table for cover.  Coming over the table in a commando roll, Christian came out of it facing the way he'd come from, his blaster firing.

OOC:  Well Christian certainly knows his trade (but is that a good thing).  The guy who struck Christian is now clearly dead.  The other two gamblers at the table seem to have forgotten Jamie and are firing at the table Christian is behind as fast as their weapons will fire.  Clearly they want revenge.

Re: Act 1: Jamie's Team

Damn Nirro says when he sees the Christian take down the gambler. Seeing that the gunners were concentrating on Christian he move to a position where he could flank them, and negate their cover turns over a table and takes cover. He peers around the side of the table and fires one off.

OCC: If he can move to the table and take cover using only a move action he will shoot this round if not he will shoot this round.

Re: Act 1: Jamie's Team

Flinching as an errant shot whined past, Devon added his own fire to Nirros.  More concerned with getting himself and his teammates out alive than with killing the opposition; Devon kept his blaster on stun and raked his brains, trying to decide on the best way for them to get out of the cantina.

Re: Act 1: Jamie's Team

Blaster bolts continued to hurl back and forwards.  Christian, wether by accident or design had switched his blaster to stun like the rest of the Talons and was spraying fire at the two gamblers.

Caught in a crossfire from three sides, the gamblers are soon struck and are elft writhing on the ground.  A near miss had warmed the side of Nirro's face but nobody had sustained injuries.

The room seemed to fall silent as the blaster fire died down.  As the Talons rose from their respective cover the remaining patrons of the bar returned to their tables and sat down, keeping a wary eye out.  Clearly they were use to this kind of scene.

OOC:  Well the gamblers are down.  Two stunned, one dead.  Nirro lost some VP but nobody took a hit.  Nice job.

Re: Act 1: Jamie's Team

Nirro stands up slowly looking around the room. He holsters his weapon and goes over to Jaime. I think we should leave before the authorities arrive or some more goons looking to avenge their dead comrade. he glances at the bodies, Besides, I don't want to be here when those guys wake up.

Christian stands from behind his table.  He slowly replaces his heavy blaster in its holster and walks over to where Jamie is.

Standing perhaps a half-second after the others, Devon glares round at the bars other patrons for a moment before returning his blaster to its holster.
'Yeah, suddenly I dont feel welcome here no more.'

Pausing by the bar, Deevon left enough money on the counter to cover their drinks and a little extra, then headed for the door.

"Yeah, time to go," Jamie said, returning the table to its upright position.  He holstered his blaster after another look around the room and walked to the bar, looking for the bartender.  "What's the closest other cantina 'round here?" he asks.

As Jamie tries to entice the bartender to speak his datapad lets of a beep, indicating a message has been received.  The message was short and to the point.

"Holy handpuppets, that's a lot of acronyms for a sentence that short!  Well, guys let's go."
Jamie led the others out of the cantina ant away from the base.  After a few blocks he makes three right turns and a left to make sure no one is following them.  He then leads the team back to the Crusader base, moving no faster than the crowd.

Nirro takes one last look around the room as he exits the cantina. Well, that didn't go well he thought. Hopefully the next mission would be better.

Devon peers over Jamie's shoulder to read the message.
'huh.' he grunted.  'Guess playtimes over...'

Casting a final glance around the cantina, Devon followed Jamie out.  Despite Jamies precautions to make sure they wernt followed, Devon kept checking behind them all the way back, watching for people following them.
