Act 3:  The Assault

*2 days later  0100 hours*

Location: Outside the Slaver Compound

Two days had passed in tense preperation, recon and equipemtn gathering.  The Doctor's passcard had been dutifuly copied by Nirro and now both the Commander and Jamie had a copy.  All team members had been outfitted with night vision goggles and were all prepped and ready.

The doctor's information had also revealed there was no external cameras, but a simple proximity sensor net which detected large movement within a meter of the fence.  Armed with this knowledge Nirro was confident he could disable one of the sensors to create a 'dead zone' approximately 2 metres wide; ample room to scale the wall at the back.

There was minimal lighting inside the complex.  The doctor had informed the group this was deliberate.  As the Trandoshans could see fairly well in the dark it reduced the likelihood of problems if any slaves escaped.  They had also learned from the doctor that only one Trandoshan patrolled at night.  Three others would be on duty; one each in the security station, prison and communication centre.

Stealth would be essential.  The task would be difficult.

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Mark looked around nervously.  He preferred a starfighter cockpit to this sneaking around on foot.  He bagin fingering his carbine again, checked himself and slipped it back under his longcoat.

"This is where we split up people.  Jamie, you take Nirro and one Cyril.  You know your objective.  Get around the back, have Nirro disable one fo the sensors and then get over the wall and take the command and comms centre.  Be as quiet and quick as you can.  Once you are in or discovered, signal us and we will move in.  Devon, Allen and I will use the doctor's card on the front door and take out the security station."

"Jamie you are Team 1.  C&C is your goal.  Also try to link up with the doctor if you can.  But taking out communications is the promary objective.  I will lead team 2.  Our goal is the security centre and any roving guards.  Xil you will be our sniper.  Take up position and be ready to lend fire support where and when required."

"Once we secure the facility Cyril will make contact with the doctor and the slaves and prepare them for transport.  Allen, Devon and I will head to the hanger to determine what we can take.  Jamie will prepare his explosives while Nirro slices what information he can."

"From now on use numbers only.  No names.  It is unlikely they will break our encryption but we need to be careful."

"Any questions?  If not, to your stations and may the Force be with us."

Now I can put all 3 teams in seperate threads or keep it all here.  Seperate thread is less confusing but it means you don't get to see what the others are up to (OOC at least).  I'll leave it in one thread unless I hear an overwhelming majority request seperate groups.

"Yes Sir," Jamie said, hefting his gear.    He patted himself down systematically, a last check to make sure he wasn't forgetting anything.  His hands stopped most dramatically at his pistol, which he then set to stun.
"Good hunting, fellows, and may we all return in one healthy piece!  Nirro, Cyril, let's head out.  Set your weapons to stun, please; I'd rather not end any lives today."

At the commander's order Xil merely nods and moves off to enter the building.  Once inside he heads to the roof and begins setting up his rifle for the task ahead.  He also ties his rope to a suitable spot should he need to make a fast escape.

Once it is all set up he checks his rifle and his scope.  Whilst he preferred thermo it might be difficult to sort friend from foe so he made sure his low-light worked as well.

Determined not to be seen Jamie's group gives the base a wide berth as they make their way to the rear side of the complex.  All is quiet as they approach the walls.  The area is dark.  No light source is close enough to shine on this area of the fence which was both a benefit and hinderance to the team.  No noises could be heard within the facility at this time.

It all seemed too easy.  There was still the proximity sensors to deal with.

Trailing along behind Allen, Devon clicked his blaster pistol over to stun; but left the carbine (swinging from its shoulder strap) on its more lethal setting - hopefully he wouldn't have to use it.  But it was nice to know it was there and ready, all the same...

Mark listened to Jamie's order for the stun setting but made no comment.  If that's how Jamie wanted to run his team that was fine.  He planned to take no such precautions himself however.  Whilst his blaster pistol in its holster was set to stun, he made sure his carbine was set to kill.   If trouble started he was not messing around.  He'd use his pistol for close in work.  If trouble started he'd use his carbine.

He waited as patiently as he could for Jamie's team to signal they were in.

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Nirro was nervous as he approached the fence but he had full confidence in his ability to mess around with computer systems. It was what he did after all. Growing up he had plenty of practice in jamming stuff and breaking into places, but it all had been for kicks. Now he was playing for keeps. Once they got back around to the back of the base, Nirro kneeled in the shadows and whispered to his teamates.

While speaking to his teamates his face shows nothing of his earlier nervousness. He is now fully in his element and concentrating on the Mission.

Nirro pulled out his security kit and took out the jammer. He switched it on and fiddled with the controls a little bit to get it to the right frequency. Once the jammer knocked out the sensors he would signal to Jaime and then get to the fence using the the grappling strike launcher to go over the fence as quickle as  he was able.

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Nirro moves in and quickly sets to work on the sensors.  It takes very little time for him to give Jamie a thumbs-up and Cyril and Jamie run forward.  Three ascension guns fire in unison.

The launchers fire flawlessly and jam into the wall less than a metre from the top of the wall.  Allowing the launchers to pull them up to the top, the trio then grabbed on to the ledge and attempted to pull themslves over.  Whilst a seemingly easy task when looking from the ground, when dangling 10 metres off the ground the distance looked more formidable, especially in the dark.

Cyril manages the feat flawlessly, swinging up onto the wall.   Jamie is less elegant as one hand slips and he nearly falls.  Sheer strength plus a helping hand from Cyril has the demolitions expert up on the wall.  Nirro's foot slips on an uneven section of wall and the slicer falls to the ground with a thump.

Shaken but not seriously injured, Nirro quickly shook himself off and checked his gear.  Finding nothing broken he crept over and fired again.  This time, with the aid of his comrades, he made it over without incident.  Hearing nothing from inside that might suggest a patrol coming, Nirro turned off the jammer and the trio carefully lowered themselves into the compound.

They found themselves at the north end of the compound, a building right before them.  According the layout the doctor gave them, this was the communications and control building.  The door in was on the south side which meant the group would have to move into the open to get to it.  To the west they could see the barracks.  To the east and slightly south the lights of the hanger were visible.

So far there were no guards to be seen.

"I love these guns.  They do almost all the work for you," Jamie whispered as he lowered himself to the ground.  He immediately drew his pistol and took a good look at the compound.
Nirro, you keep an eye on the barracks and let us know if anything happens over there.  Cyril, you keep an eye on the walls.  I'll watch for patrols.  Keep close to physical cover, and remember Trandoshans can see in the dark.  Our first objective is to get inside this building here.  If we encounter a fight, Nirro, I want you to immediately alert the others.  Let's go.
Jamie moves slowly and quietly toward the back side of the building, watching for patrols.  Once against the back of the comm building, he would edge around toward the front.

Jamie's Team

The trio moves slowly around the edge of the wall.  Moving around to the door of C&C leaves them with their back to the landing pad and security station.  Whilst there were no guards currently visible it left them horrible exposed.  With a quick gesture from Jamie, Nirro attempted the Doctor's swipe card on the door but it did not work.  Nonplussed, Nirro pulled out his security kit and began working on the door.

Jamie and Cyril kneeled down beside him, watching for any sign of trouble.

After a minute or two of hotwiring the door suddenly left out a mildly audible beep and turned green.  The trio jumped as the silence of the night made the noise sound like a siren to them.

As the door opens Jamie blinks momentarily to the bright lights inside.  He blinks away the brighteness and he beholds the situation before him.  There are two Trandoshans in the room.  One was madly typing into a computer with more energy than someone should at this time of the morning.  The second one had clearly just stood up in a hurry and was pulling a blaster pistol from a hip holster.  Clearly they'd worked out something was wrong only moments before the group entered.

OOC:  Despite the trandoshans somehow being alerted to your presence you guys get the suprise round.  However as Jamie is in the doorway he is the only one able to act.  Nirro is still in the act of packing up his security.  Cyril is outside with pistol in hand.

We're down to combat now.  Please get me posts asap and please remember the more info you give me the more rounds of combat I can round.

He had registered Jamie's team as they came over the wall and he had done a brief scan of the area. Seeing Jamie's team approach the door he shook his head to clear his thoughts pulling his concentration back together. Once again he scanned the area looking for potential threats. Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Jamie moved into the room already firing at the surprised Trandoshans.  His shots go wide as the guards begin diving for cover.  They commence firing though their hasty shots are also well off the mark.

Dropping to one knee Nirro fires a stun blast that catches the seated Trandoshan in the chest, knocking him over backwards.  Cyril's blaster bolt burns through the air where the Trandoshan was a moment ago and scorches the back wall.  A moment sooner and the guard would likely be dead instead of stinned.

Switching targets, Jamies takes aim on the other guard and cooly dispatches with a stun blast.

As the second Trandoshan falls to the ground the only sound to be heard is the heavy breathing of the three Talons.  After hours of silence there had been ten seconds of pure adrenaline.  Now it was silent once more.

OOC:  Well you have two stunned (for now) Trandoshans and no Talons were hit.  Fortunately the fight took place inside the room with only the door open so the sound (hopefully) didn't travel too much.  At the moment.  Jamie is inside the room.  Nirro is kneeling in the doorway (his security kit still sitting outside) and Cyril is standing right behind Nirro (so just out of the room).

Jamie gave a low whistle, holstering his blaster and rushing to the guard.  "Cyril, detain the techie; stun won't last long."  He quickly relieved the guard of his weapon, produced a set of binders, and set the guard on his stomach.  After cuffing the guard's wrists behind his back, he searched for something to gag the guard with; perhaps the guard's own clothing?  Once the guard is secured, Jamie checks to make sure the techie is relieved of his weapon and secured in like manner.
"Nirro, hurry up and get your stuff in here and close the door, then contact team one.  Tell them we're inside and we've detained two, but we are now unsure of our secrecy.  From now on, though, I need you to follow my orders the way I give them; otherwise, we could all get killed."

Once down he begins tapping keys on the computer console and tries to log in.

He will search the security system first for any alarms that have been sounded in the last 5 mins. He will then check the security cameras for the locations of any Trandoshan's on the base. Once he has that info up he will call over Jaime for them to decide exactly which systems to hack into first in order to complete their objectives.

As Nirro tapped away at the computer terminal his hopes began to fall. Jaime he called, This terminal has no access to camera's or security. The smugglers business info is stored here and that intel might be useful to the alliance but apart from that, the only usefull thing here is a complete listing of the base supplies, personel and ships. Also it seems that the computer here is connected to the hanger so I can send a work order to preflight the ships we want. Given enough time I can dowload the business info to my datapad, find out what the base stores and get the fighters prepped.

Just then Xil's voice comes over the comlink. Guess I wont have that time huh? Nirro pulls his blaster once again and trains it on the door.

He turned again to face the communications console.
"Cyril, you can have a look at this.  This is your area of expertise.  Tell me if you find any recordings or communications memory."
Jamie drew his pistol and knelt by the side of the door where he would have cover before answering the Commander.
"One, this is Five.  We don't have access to cameras or security here, and there are four on patrol, not one.  At this rate using the doctor's card could get you killed; stand by.  Four, this is Five.  Keep me posted on their positions."

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

From what he could hear over the comms, it sounded to Devon like things inside the slavers compound were about to hot-up some; and that he, Flash and the commander would have to go in any moment now.

Holding his blaster carbine one handed, Devon drew out their copy of the doctors security card and positioned himself ready to open the door.  Catching the commander looking in his direction, Devon nodded once to show he understood his role in all this and hoped that he didnt look as jittery as he felt...

Hearing the patrol is almost upon them Cyril bursts into action.  Grabbing the techie he'd tied up, he clubbed him soundly with the bitt of his vibrodagger.  Then he ripped off the gag, cut the bonds and began dragging him towards the chair he'd been sitting in.

He looked to Jamie desperately.  "Help me get him in the seat.  We can make it look like he's fallen asleep at the desk.  It might buy us a few seconds."

As soon as the techie is in the seat Cyril ducks behind whatever hiding spot he can.

He turned to Flash and Nirro.  "Now we'll be moving in shortly.  We will try the access card and if it fails we will improvise.  It will vary based on wether I call for a quiet or noisy insertion.  If its quiet, you know what to do.  If its noisy then all weapons set to kill and we move as fast as we can."

Jamie peeks around the door, blaster in hand.  He spots the guard at almost precisely the same moment he is spotted.  The guard yelss in surprise as the pair exchangle hastily-fired blasts.  The blue stun bolt flies hastily wide as does the guard's energy bolt.  The pair take better aim the second time round but Jamie proves the faster.  His second stun bolt takes the guard dead centre in the chest and sends him plummeting to the ground.

Jamie has a second to take a breath before he hears a yell in Dosh.  About 50 metres south, almost to the security station, the second patrol Exilim had mentioned had turned and drawn their blaster rifles.  Clearly they had heard the altercation and now Jamie stood exposed in the doorway. . .

As Jamie moved forward to drag the Trandoshan into the C&C the two guards in the distance began firing with their rifles.  At such range it seemed unlikely a shot would hit but fate was not on Jamie's side this night.

One bolt narrowly missed Jamie and his prisoner, singing the hair on Jamie's head as its past.  Another blast struck Jamie in the side, hurling him into the wall where he slumped down gasping.  His entire left side felt like it was on fire and it was difficult to take a breath.

In the distance the Trandoshan begin backing away.  One kept firing whilst the other jabbered in a commlink.  None of the bolts came close to hitting Jamie.

OOC:  Well the dice certainly like your enemies at the moment!  An almost impossible roll but they hit twice and one a critical hit!

Just get inside...
He pulled his nightvision goggles back over his eyes and looked around quickly, especially toward the security station.  Seeing the guards were content to let him bleed to death, he paused for a moment to think.
The guard...
Deciding not to examine his injuries just yet, he cuffed the patrolman before he continuing to drag him toward the door of C&C, this time staying low and trying to remain as invisible as possible.  If the patrolmen of the second patrol turn more attention to him, he will drop the Trandoshan and get inside as quickly as possible.

Slinghing his carbine he moves to the door.  Nodding to Devon he waits for him to swipe the door, hoping the doctor's access is good.  Getting a reassuring green light, Mark activates the grenade, pulls the door open a fraction and hurls the grenade in.

In one swift action he kicks the door shot, drops to his knees and covers his ears as he shouts  "DOWN!"

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

The commander's grenade exploded within the security centre right on cue.  To Teams two and three it sounded merely like distant thunder.  In fact only Jamie, who was trained in explosives recognised the distinctive sound.

For Mark's team and the pair of Trandoshan's just oustide the security station the noise was deafening.  Having been prepared for the noise, Mark, Devon and Flash had covered their ears and as such had only a mild tingling in their ears.  The trandoshans on the grounds had no such warning and now clutched their ears in surprise.

Tearing open the door Mark and Flash charged in, Devon close behind.  Their weapons were held in ready positions though this proved unnecessary.  The two guards inside the security station had been hurled across the room and were now crumpled up in corners like rag dolls.

A few of the monitors had been destroyed in the blast but the room was largely intact.  Four of the six monitors still worked and it looked like the guards had not had the opportunity to encrypt any of the computers or trigger any alarms.

There was a secure door to one side of the room.  It looked like the kind you would find on a bank vault.  It was likely something important was kept in this room.

OOC:  Well all three teams are in motion.

Team 1 - The blast from the grenade has momentarily disoriented the two Trandoshans outside.  This has given you a momentary reprieve to take cover inside C&C and regroup

Team 2 - The security centre is taken.  The computers look like they are operational.  On one side of the room is the strong door.  There are two other doors in the room.  One at the south end which you came in and one to the north that leads into the complex grounds.

Team 3 - Xil is still merrily on top of the roof.  You no longer have LOS on the two trandoshans as they had backed closer to the security station.  So far nobody else is moving.

"Now that was cool!"  Mark exclaimed before he could control himself.  The commander had destroyed capital ships before, even dropped proton bombs on a synthfuel depot.  He'd made some pretty big explosions over his career, but somehow the proximity of the concussion grenade made it more 'real'.

He frowned off his joy.  He was commander of an elite squadron, not some flight cadet.  He had a job to do.

"Flash, get on those computers.  Lock down what you can and check out those cameras.  We need to know how many we're up against.  Devon, I want this door open.  I doubt the doctor's card will work but try it.  After that, well do what you can."

As Nirro focuses on the computer, Jamie begins laying down some cover fire.  The two Trandoshan guards return fire and Jamie is forced to duck back as blaster fire bounces off the wall near the door.  None of the shots come through the door however.  The two guards back off until they reach the security door.  Obviously they are hoping that despite the noise, their comrades are coming to their aid.

Inside the security station while Flash typed away madly at the computers, Devon pulled out his security kit and worked on the vault door.  The heat of combat had flusted him as he can't seem to get his mind focused on his job and the door remains locked.

Nirro meanwhile was having no such difficulty as he began slicing away at the paltry security the computers had.  He figured he could have written a better program while drunk and tripping on spice.  It took only a few minutes to break into the hanger's maintenence computer.

Mark moved to stand behind Flash.  He watched the security screens as they flicked in-between the cameras and didn't like what he saw.  The prison cells were quiet enough but the barracks were a fluster of activity.  Numerous Trandoshans were running in and out of focus, pulling on armour vests and pulling out blasters.  Clearly surprise was no longer on their side.

Muttering curses, Devon started checking his work over - it was a simple mistake he'd made; he was sure of that - all he had to do was find it.
'Come on, come on... ' he muttered to himself 'Normally I pick this sort of lock without even breakin' stride...'

Seeing where he had gone wrong; Devon hurridly disconnected his tools from the lock, took a deep breath to calm himself and started over.

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Commander Mark Sheppard:
The commander gripped his carbine a little tighter.

"One to five.  Looks like we've got around a dozen or so guards in the barracks preparing to join the party.  Looks like a mix of rifles, pistols and body armour.  I hope you're secure."

He turned to Devon.  "Get that damn door open.  If that's the armoury, we're gonna need the extra firepower.  At the very least we can destroy it and deny it to the enemy."

Hearing the Commander relay the information to Jamie, Exilim turns his attention to the barracks door. He decides that as he can't see the patrol near the security station his best option is to try and prevent as many extra guards from coming out as possible.

Jamie slings the blaster rifle over his shoulder as he moves toward the door, looking for a control panel to close the door.
After attempting to close the door, he gets on the comlink again.  "One, this is Five; be advised, there are two patrolmen outside the security center.  I have asked Eight to order fueling for the fighters.  I need a minute to set up some goodies in here.  Four, please give me warning if anyone approaches our position."
Jamie stows the comlink and moves to the computer console.  He quickly produces a pack of Detonite and begins to form it around the database, setting it up for a remote detonation, trying hard to ignore his injury.
Cyril, see what you can gather from that communications thingy.  When you're done, see if you can de-service it properly with a vibroblade.
One remote detonation, coming right up...oh boy, I love pushing the little red button!

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Location: Security Centre

Flash quickly takes Nirro's swipecard and resets it to contain all base passcodes.  Without looking up from his work he hands it to the shipjacker.  Frowning slightly he concentrates on altering the passcodes to the barracks door.  After about a minute the new codes are accepted.  The Duros turns to the barracks security camera to see that the Trandoshans have geared up.  They seem surprised as their swipecards fail to open the door.  They begin bashing on the door with fists and blaster rifle butts.  They look most unimpressed.

"By the force!" he heard Mark exclaim from the next room.  Flash whipped up his blaster and rushed into the next room.  Devon and Mark had disappeared into this room shortly after Flash had made them the new swipe card.

Entering the room he shuddered to a halt.  The room was certainly an armoury and it was quite well stocked.  There was enough small arms to outfit at least a dozen shoulders.  Against one wall were five sets of medium battle armour, and a dozen full length riot shields.

Along the back wall where Mark and Devon were situated, aside from the small arms were a number of heavier weapons.  An E-web cannon rested in a box besides two heavy and two light repeaters.  A crate of concussion grenades rested on a box of mini smoke and gas grenades, complete with grenade launchers.

OOC:  A tally of the inventory

15 blaster pistols
8 heavy pistols
12 blaster rifles
12 Riot shields (full-length)
5 Medium battle armour
1 E-web cannon
2 Heavy repeating blasters
2 Light repeating blasters
1 box concussion grenades (40)
1 box mini smoke grenades (25)
1 box mini stun gas grenades (25)
6 Grenade launchers (shoot the mini grenades)
20 stun batons

Location: Command & Control

With the door now closed, laserfire no longer bounced off the walls.  Though with the soundproofing it was entirely possible they were shooting the walls and you just couldn't hear it.  Either way the team had some breathing room.

As Cyril begins downloading the communications console to his datapad and Jamie begins setting up his explosives, Nirro worked on sending a work order to the hanger computer.  Slicing effortlessly through base security, he soon had downloaded a work order to the hanger computer ordering the droids to fuel all the ships.  The work order was successfully transmitted.  Before long with luck the droids would jack in for orders and commence work.

Whilst waiting for further orders, he sets the personnel inventory to download to a datapad.

Location: Rooftop outside the compound

Xil waits impatiently.  So far nobody had come out the barracks door.  Something was strange.  Surely the Trandoshans would have responded by now?

He looks to the other weapons.  "According to our schematics there's a fixed weapon mount just outside the doors here.  If we could mount the heavy repeater there we'd have much greater defensibility.  We can keep the guards holed up in the barracks and prisoner cells.  That will help nullify their numerical advantage.  Devon, grab the repeater.  Lets make some slavers VERY unhappy."

The commander listens, pondering how much they trusted the doctor.  His card had got them in the door after all.

"Three this is one.  Hold position and make sure you get everything you can.  Two and I will clear a path.  Then proceed with phase 2 as planned.  Barracks is locked down for now but be wary of enemies.  Tell our friend to defend himself but to hold position."

He then turns to the others.  "Devon, get back on the computer and watch for any reinforcements.  Lock down any doors you think are necessary.  Flash, you and I are going to set up that heavy repeater on the weapon mount outside to provide some fire support.  Then we'll secure the hangar."

"Both of you grab any weapons or armour you two need but make sure you bring that heavy repeater Flash.  I'd prefer the E-web but I can't spare more than one of us to man the turret."

Mark grabs the light repeater and slings his own carbine.  Waiting for Flash to arm himself he then moves for the door.

Flash picks up the big heavy repeater before the commander finishes talking, then hefts it and the other one at his last remark.  Going through the crates, Flash loads several grenades and such into his pockets, still with that maniacal grin on his face.

OOC: Here's what I'm getting:

2  Heavy repeating blasters (one for mount)
1  Heavy blaster pistol
1  Grenade launcher
10 mini smoke grenades
10 mini stun gas grenades
15 concussion grenades
?? extra power packs (as many as I'll need, + some)

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Whilst Devon is left to manage security matters, Mark and Flash head out the north door to prepare the heavy weapon.  Mark leads the way with his light repeater in hand and Flash follows, with his handful of weapons.

As they move outside, the pair of Trandoshans who had been taking cover near the security centre and watching C&C suddenly gasp and spin towards Mark and Flash, blasters at the ready.

At nearly the same moment a loud explosion is heard by all to the north west, its comes from the direction of the barracks.

OOC:  Well its down to combat again (for Mark and Flash anyway).  You all heard the explosion.  As you have walked out the door Mark and Flash have no cover.  Neither do the guards.  Since the guards were expecting an attack from C&C they don't get a surprise round (aren't I nice?)

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Flash drops his load and desperately tries to bring his repeater into line.  The other three are quicker off the mark.  The commander fires a trio of blasts from his repeater that strike the left guard full in the chest.  The corpse with a gapink, smoking hole in its torso flies a good metre back before striking the ground.

The return blasts from the Trandoshan's fly wide, though the one shooting at Flash only misses by a few centimetres.

Finally ridding himself of his load, Flash lets off a volley from his weapon.  His movement is far from clean as the kickback sends the second two shots into the air.  However the first one strikes its target and the strength of the projectile is not to kill the guard outright.

Moments after Exilim's warning comes through, a blaster shot strikes the wall about 4 metres behind Mark and Flash.  The guards Exilim had mentioned were out.  They certainly didn't look happy.

OOC:  Two guards down.  There are four more who have emerged from the barracks.  They are approximately 60 metres from Mark and Flash.  Exilim is about 100m from them.  More guards are emerging behind the four.

Since only two rounds of combat have occured (ie 12 seconds) Devon, Jamie, Nirro and Cyril haven't really had a chance to do anything. . .yet.

'Right!' shouted Devon from inside.  Abandoning his position at the computer console and leaving his carbine to swing from its shoulder strap, Devon snatched up the remaining light repeater, several spare power packs and the box of concussion grenades, then hurried to the door.

Sheltering inside the security station, Devon placed his box of grenades on the floor next to him.  Using the doorway for cover, he called 'One, I've bought toys with me - you want some?'

Hefting a concussion grenade, Devon looked for a nice grouping of targets to throw one of his 'toys' at - if theres nothing suitable in range he'd simply open fire with his repeater.

The blasterfire from the barracks intensified as the Trandoshans burst out of the door, rifles blaring.  Dozens of blaster bolts flew towards Mark's group but none struck as the distance was too great.  Mark and Devon returned fire also but with no success beyond adding further light and sound to the show.

The only kills were being made one not even in the compound.  Exilim, secure on a nearby rooftop took his time as he lined up his first target, an extra large Trandoshan leading the charge.  The bolt striking him in the chest drilled straight through and out the back, spraying the person behind him.  His second shot hit the Trandoshan to his left in the thigh dropping him to the ground.  As he rose a third sniper bolt took him in the head, heating his cerebral matter to bioling point in a matter of seconds.

The charge faltered amidst the slaughter laid down by Exilim and his SoroSuub X-45 Sniper Rifle.  The Trandoshans stand still for a moment until one Trandoshan begins barking orders.  Exilim spins his attention to this new threat but one of the troops drops a grenade and quickly the ground is immersed in thick smoke.  Unable to target accurately Exilim can still roughly make out what has happened.  The soldiers have broken into two groups.  One group charges southwest taking cover behind the north end of the medical centre while the other group has charged east towards the C&C.

Near the security centre Mark and Devon continue to lay down fire even though there is nothing to see.  Meanwhile Flash finally gets the heave repeater set up on the tripod.

Quickly losing sight of the group near the medical centre, he swings his sniper rifle around to target the group headed towards the communications centre.Starting at the lead guard, Exilim fires short bursts. He deliberately angles his shots down, attempting to incapacitate the guards for now, well aware that that his sniper rifle has the capability of firing through the walls of the building and that team 2 are behind those very walls.

"Change of plans," Jamie said, setting his blaster rifle on multifire.  "We're on defense again."
He glanced at the computer console, trying to decide if he could move it to block the door with the Detonite still intact.
"Shoot first, ask questions later, alright?  I doubt these slavers are interested in our health.  Try not to get shot."

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Mark and Devon make their mad dash, accompanied by a large burst of laserfire coming from the group taking cover behind the medical centre.  Since Flash isn't shooting at them and Xil doesn't have an angle, the group fire with impunity at the pair.  Laserfire flows all around the pair, a couple barely missing but they make it intact.  As the pair take up position behind the hangar, a pair of the trandoshans use the time to rush over and take cover in the medical centre.

Flash continues to fire at the group about to breach C&C.  The tripod offers him greater stability and he is rewarded as he cuts down two of the enemies with his heavy fire.  Exilim plays it more conservative and shoots low.  Unfortunately the difficulty of hitting a running guard in the leg proves a difficult task and the sniper's blasts both go wide.

Jamie and Nirro begin moving the desk with the computer into a position in front of the door.  Cyril meanwhile works to destroy the communication equipment.  All three are forced to dive for cover as Flash's missed shots punch through the walls of the building and fill the C&C with laser fire.  The computer takes a hit and starts to smoulder.  Providence saves Cyril as he drops to the floor milliseconds before a shot flies past where his head has been.

As the trio pick themselves up off the ground four guards storm the room.  The rear one takes a sniper blast in the back and falls to the ground dead.  But it leaves Jamie's team in close quarters with three very unhappy Trandoshan guards.  The guards seem much more willing to engage Jamie's group in close quarters then risk the wrath of Flash and Exilim.

OOC:  Okay update.  Three Trandoshans have breached C&C.  Two have broken into the medical centre and two are against the north wall of the medical centre shooting at Mark and Devon who are now against the south wall of the hangar.

Mark hits the wall (literally) in his mad dash and immediately drops to his knees.  Taking a prone position at the corner of the hangar, he takes aim on the medical centre group of enemies whilst keeping as much cover as he can.

'Thank the force I'm left-handed.  Being a righty would cost me a lot of cover.'

As soon as he was set up he commenced firing at the group near the medical centre.  'Sure hope the doctor isn't there.  Still if he is, he's a prisoner, a collaborator or dead by now.'

He calls over his shoulder to Devon.  "We need to get into the hangar and let you get to work.  Even if we defeat this lot other will come.  They might have called in friends.  Even if they haven't whatever counts as law will."

Cyril reflexively grabbed for his head as the blaster bolt flew over him.  He'd felt the heat from that one.  He was ready to say thanks to whomever was watching over him but fate seemed to be playing a cruel trick on him as the guards burst through the door.

Targetting the first one with his blaster pistol he opened fire.

"TAKE COVER!" Jamie yells as the Trandoshans storm the room.  Seeing Cyril is already on the floor, he lunges at Nirro, trying to drag him to the floor and grant him a body shield to whatever blast remnants hit them.
As the Trandoshans are in a prime location for collateral damage, he pushes the button to activate the Detonite.

'Right' Muttered Devon as he cast a speculative eye over the hanger wall.
'This is just a break an' enter' he told himself.  'Done this plenty of times before - theres always a way in...'  A blaster bolt whined past, and the shipjacker flinched.  An' all I want to find is a way OUT he finished in his head.

Door, window, airvent, disposal chute... any of those would do.  Hell, Devon was willing to settle for a section of wall thin enough to blast through with his repeater or concussion grenades...

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Location: C&C

Jamie dived atop of Nirro, forcing him to the floor as he triggered the detonator in his hand.  The small blocks of detonite attached to the computers exploded in spectacular fashion, albeit it small.

The first guard took the blast in the chest, knocking him backwards and throwing off his aim.  Staggering forward the guard looked injured but far from out of the fight.  The rear guard had taken some moderate shrapnal damage to the leg and thigh but was far from finished.  The middle Trandoshan had dived to the side in time to completely avoid the blast.

Nirro, buried beneath Jamie did his best to extricate himself as a volley of blaster fire erupted.  Cyril's shot went harmless wide as did the shots of the front two guards.  The third guard with the leg wound took more deliberate aim with his blaster pistol and hit Cyril, charring a huge wound in his upper chest and thorax.  The comms officer fell to the ground motionless, his weapon clattering away.

OOC:  Since Devon, Mark, Exilim and even Flash are largely out of combat at the moment I'm going to try and resolve a few rounds with C&C.

Well a rapid change of events.  Two of the Trandoshans are injured.  Cyril however has been gifted with a critical hit and is at best unconscious or possibly dead.  You don't have time at the moment to check him over thoroughly.

Making sure his grenade launcher is loaded, Flash takes aim and fires a shot.

Failing to elevate the barrel sufficiently the grenade lands short, exploding about 5 metres short of the door.  The walls of the medical centre absorb much of the blow.  It is unlikely anyone in the medical centre was injured.  Indeed, moments after the grenade blast someone quickly slammed the medical centre's door closed.

Meanwhile around the back of the hangar, Devon finds a ventilation shaft.  Its not more than a metre in width but if he crawled it was possible to make ones way inside.

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

As the three Trandoshans came forward Jamie felt his anger rise for his fallen comrade.  As he stared at the attackers he suddenly felt a clarity he'd not experienced in battle before.  He knew exactly what he had to do.

Swinging up his blaster rifle he fired with precision and speed.  Two shots were off before anyone else could fire a weapon.  His first shot took the lead Trandoshan in the face, the second took the rearmost, the one who had shot Cyril in the lower abdomen.  The guard fell screaming and yelling as he clutched his clearly-fatal wound.  Nirro belatedly fired at the lead guard but by the time he fired the guard was on the ground screaming as his life ebbed away.

Clearly unnerved the final Trandoshan let off a pair of hasty shots at Jamie, both that missed by a good distance.  Jamie and Nirro both returned fire, the former striking in the stomach, the latter the chest.  The guard gasped and fell forward.

With no more enemies to deal with Nirro rushed over to check Cyril for signs of life.  There were none.

Nirro collects himself a blaster rifle from the fallen guards whilst Jamie collects two others and slings them on his back.  With only a quick glance to their fallen comrade they move to the door once more.  This time they are greeted only by silence and the smell of overcooked Trandoshans.  Near the door are a collection of dead guards.  Some are riddled with blaster shots, courtesy of Flash's repeater.  Others bare a single high-powered shot, no dount from Xil.

The courtyard's only visible living occupant is Flash.  He stands at the south end outside security manning a turret with a heavy repeater.  Xil is assumedly still on station on the nearby rooftop.

There is no movement near the barracks though the door is open.  Both the medical centre and jail doors are closed.  Four dead Trandoshans lie outside the medical centre door.   The hangar doors are also closed.

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

As Jamie and Nirro prepare to move up the hallway the sound of blasterfire erupts from the hallway to the north.  No laserfire appears so they are clearly not shooting down the hall but at somebody else.

As the pair relax slightly, a Trandoshan steps around the corner.  He is taller than all the other guards do date.  He is wearing a combat jumpsuit that looks well used and maintained.  Slung over it is a belt with twin holsters at the hips and a bandoleer with various blades and grenades on it.  A wicked looking knife with a metre-long blade hangs on his back.  He carries twin heavy blasters in his hands.

He hesitates for maybe a mircosecond or two, which demonstrates he is no stranger to battle.  He snaps off a hasty shot with one of his pistols and ducks back into the hallway just as Nirro and Jamie return fire.  All three shots miss their mark, but the Trandoshan's blast only missed Nirro by less than a handspan.

OOC:  The trandoshan is clearly not a common guard like the others.  It's likely he'll be a lot harder to take down.  He currently is hiding around the corner which provides him cover.  The hallway offers no cover to you.  A move action could put you back outside (allowing you cover) or move you up to the bifurcation of the hall (negating everyones cover).

On the bright side, if he maintains cover he can only shoot at you with one pistol rather than two!

Watching the courtyard from the overlooking rooftop, Exilim begins to feel frustrated at the situation. With Flash at the heavy repeater, Exilim allows himself a brief moment to scan the area surrounding the compound.

His attention snaps back to the courtyard as he hears Jamie ask for assistance. He focuses on the medical centre, realising even as he does so that he doesn't have line of sight. Cursing, his frustration builds knowing that at present all he can do is watch for further reinforcements.

Jamie breathed a slight sigh of relief as the Commander appeared.  As well as he could while keeping his rifle at the ready, he used hand gesetures to visually outline the interior for Mark.
"Hallway here; guard room at the end, was empty, probably isn't anymore; another hallway comes off the side and splits at the end; at least three guards back there in a firefight with someone else; one - probably the leader - is really good.  He's a little taller than the others, armored, armed to the teeth with grenades, and he uses two heavy blasters - at the same time.  I can't take him; I'm pretty much spent, Sir, and shot to Kessel."

"Very good five.  Now replace two on the repeater, you're no good to me dead.  I'll keep eight with me.  Then get on the comm and have four get over here if things are still clear.  Have him secure the facility then have him join me."

"Two.  Take position at the medical centre entrance.  You may get a chance to use some grenades after all.  Eight, turn your damn comm on or get your ears syringed.  Eleven and I have both been comming you.  Pay attention in the future."

"Okay here's the game plan.  Five, keep on the repeater and take down anyone you see.  We can't wait for four so we'll do it like this.  I'll keep them pinned down and distracted here.  Two, you enter via the medical centre and take eight with you.  If this guy keps using the corridor for cover from me, you should get an unobstructed shot at him.  If he moves to defend against you he exposes himself to me.  A classic flanking maneuver.

Move out."

Mark fires another burst down the corridor.  Whilst he tries to hit any Trandoshan who shows his face, he is happy just to keep them pinned down and exposed to Flash and Nirro.

Flash and Nirro entered the medical centre without trouble.  The door was unlocked and the room unoccupied, save for a dead trandoshan.  Moving to the door connecting the medical centre to the jail hallway, the pair found that open too.

Peeking down the hall Flash had a clear view of three trandoshans.   One was dead, halfway down the corridor.  The other two were at the south end of the corridor where it branched out east and west.

One of the Trandoshans was against the wall shooting down the corridor to the east.  This was the one who was trading shots with the commander.  The other stood behind him.  He was pulling a grenade from his bandoleer.  Neither had noticed Flash yet.  Nirro was further back in the room having not reached the doorway yet.

OOC:  Mark is trading fire with the Trandoshan leader with minimal effect.  Jamie is on the repeater but is seeing nothing.  Xil is (assumedly) packing up his sniper rifle in preperation to move.

Flash's grenade rolled down the corridor and landed between the two Trandoshans.  The rear one gasped in surprise and in a fluke move kicked the grenade as he dashed to one side.  The grenade flew down the corridor towards Mark's position but exploded well short.

Roaring in anger, the Trandoshan leader spun and began running down the corridor, twin heavy blasters aimed at Flash, who was standing in the medical centre doorway.  His companion took a few moments to recover before joining his leader's charge.

OOC:  For your benefit flash you throw was perfect.  However BOTH trandoshans made their fort save (gotta hate those dice).

Flash gasps as his comrade falls but steadies himself to fire his repeater.  The recoil of the weapon proves too much and the bolts all fly wide and high.

My friend in the cell here is Daniel, and I've patched him up enough so he is mobile - we aren't priority but Jek and Roy over there took some heavy hits in the firefight."

A second human appeared at the cell door looking out.

Seeing that the Commander is looking for more deatil Darak offers the following while cells are being opened "Of course - One - it is Roy who is a slicer I think, he hacked into the security network at any rate. Jek, the Doctor - or Daniel might know more about each other. The three broke out of their cell with help from Jek, and I wasn't around for how the got the weapons. Once I heard them making a bit of commotion I called out to them. They took out a trandoshan in their breakout I think. Oh yes, Daniel ... you are a soldier right? I am guessing from the way you handle the rifle. Never did learn those proper firing postions."

"Anyway they sprung me from my cell and we then heard a a group of Trandoshans taking up postion in the medical bay. At that time Roy was working away on a makeshift grenade and hacking the security system while I celared these two cells of prisoners so they would be away from the med center - explosions and Trandoshans and all. We also cleared the cells to set up a cross fire, which worked brilliantly ... but they came through before we had a chance to set up anything else quick  - like a tripwire or shims for the doors. They came in just a minute earlier then we had hoped."

"So like I said we took one more out straight away in our crossfire and pinned them down for what seemed like a full minute ... They countered by putting on respirators and all three of them - maybe four - coming out as they filled the hall with gas. Though I could not see it becuase of the gas cloud there was some reason we couldn't move to our fallback position in the guard room. So we were forced to stay clear of the gas by retreating into the cells. Then they slammed the doors on us. We took some heavy fire when most of us were slowed up by the gas, but I got to cover behind the door here and managed to take out another Trandoshan. They couldn't get in becuase the doors were frozen and it allowed me some time to patch up Daniel here."

"I would be happy to tell you more, One, but up until fifteen minutes ago I was snoozing in a cell. I have been here for a bit - figured the Slavers were taking the time to squeeze my company offices for ransom or something. Who knows really. Very glad that you and your band are here though ..."

Lucky I managed to hold onto any of it at all really - given circumstances. In short, it is a booster that can usually do one better than medkit drugs. The S.O.P. I am trained in is to bring field cases that are non-critical back as close to operational as possible and to stablize the more serious cases for safe transport. It's your call if I do it by the book or if you need priority on one of these three patients. We might need stretchers from the medical bay ... if they have em."

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

It takes Jamie less than three minutes to blow the locks on the doors holding Daniel, Darak, Roy and Jek.  By then Flash has come back dejected.  Someone had changed all the codes and the Duros was unable to break them.

Darak wasted no time.  Grabbing up his medical gear he moved into the opposite room.  He worked as quickly as he could and soon he'd fixed the worst of Jek and Roy's wounds.  Slowly the pair started coming around.  Once done there Darak moved to Nirro and brought the slicer around also.

Current VP/WP
Jamie - 5/38 3/12

Darak - 1/16 14/14

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

As he crawled back to consciousness his first thought was to seriously wish he hadn't.  His chest felt like it was molten metal.  Every breath hurt and caused him to cough, increasing the pain.  His limbs were shaky and the light hurt his eyes.

'I will never go lightly on the analgesic with any patient' he swore to himself.

As his eyes started to focus he noticed Darak sitting over him.

"Hey there.  I guess this means we won."  he managed a weak smile.

Flash gives him a look.  "So you're the one who messed with the codes.  Too many slicers spoil the system," he adds with a smirk.  He hefts his heavy repeater.  "Anyway, I don't know if this one is yours or not, but it's mine now."

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

As Darak treats people he says with a smile and freindly bedside manner "Welcome back. Yes, indeed Jek we won ...and I have to thank you again for risking everything helping us out. You got a little unlucky and cuaght some fire, but you'll live - without scarring if your lucky. Thank goodness you have strong vitals. Take it easy with quick motions ... does that feel OK? "

"Ah Roy, your trick with disabling doors worked out very well. Let me take out the Trandsohan straggler who was left to finish us off. How is that ... watch the wound there ... don't move too fast with that. To fill you both in the Captain? of the Mercs is using the handle "One" right now - he's not here but I suspect that Mr. "Five" here is going to be our squad leader for the moment, and "Two?" is it? He seems pretty handy with that big repeater - very reasurring to have a good heavy weapons man on our side."

"Hello there ... Eight? is it? Nice to meet you. You'll pull through but take it easy with this ... right now you need to make slow and careful motions only. Like the others ... slow and steady. That feel OK?"

OOC: Most of that is just bedside manner, you don't have to respond to it unless you want to emphasize that you are all basically being held together by wound sealant, burn patches, and pain killers of various sci-fi varieties :)

Nirro opened his eyes and the invasion of light suddenly made his head hurt. I wish I hadn't done tha he mutters to himself. Once his eyes start o focs he notic4es the newcomers and assumed that at least some of the slaves have been rescued.

Two, Five, would you give me a hand here? If one of the others gioves him a hand Nirro will ge to his feet leaving the discarded Blaster Rifle on the floor. I should never have thought to use that clumsy thing. He looks at Darek, Thanks, now I only feel a little dead and not a whole lot dead

Five, what are our orders?

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Jamie finishes with his work quickly, having mostly ignored the others to concentrate on his task.  He had given One a nod, but that was it.
"I'm Five.  It seems I blow things up and give orders.  Let's see..."
Jamie looked around the room for a few seconds, counting the cells.  His happy demeanor fades and he seems suddenly depressed.
"Oh, no!  I don't have nearly enough to free all these slaves.  The last thing I want to have to do is leave some behind."
He looked back to the faces of his comrades, and those who had volunteered to help.  He grimaced slightly as he gave his orders conflicting with the Commander's.
"I'm changing the plan a bit.  I can't blow all these slaves out so our needs have changed.  Eight, proceed to the hangar to assist One and Eleven.  Two, go back to the security center and download everything you can; Jek, go with him and strip the place of anything useful in prep for departure.  Roy, I want you to go back to that computer.  Fix whatever it is you did and prepare to open these doors on my mark.  Do you have a commlink?  Daniel, I want you to take this and stick with Roy; keep him alive.
"Darak, I want you to come with me.  I'm going to blow up the barracks and I could use someone to watch my back."

Jamie removed two extra blaster rifles from his back and handed them to Daniel and Darak as he examined the faces of the mercenaries.
"Are there any questions?"

Jek stood slowly, the painkillers finally kicking in.  He still hurt. . .a lot but at least it reminded him he was alive.

When 'five' gives his orders Jek nods and hobbles over to the Duros he's named as 'two.'.

"Two is it?  Well sir, my name is Jek or you can call me Doc.  If we've got a lot of things to carry I've got a few trolleys in the medical centre which might help.  Just let me know what you need.  Not up for much of a fight but I can still carry things."

As his old habits from the academy started to kick back in gear Daniel snapped to attention as five issued the orders. Listening carefully to what was said  he responded with "No questions from me Sir." when five prompted him with the question.

Daniel took the rifle that was offered to him and went to a rest stance as he turned to Roy. "Let's move out Roy. There's plenty of work to do."

"I may require your services, Eight, but One has requested your help in the hangar, and Roy changed the codes to start with; I'd rather have him on that this time around."
Turning to Roy, Jamie added, "If at all possible I want you to open the doors on my mark.  It may be a few minutes, but we don't want the slaves wandering around long before we can pick them up and get out of here.  Or, if you can give the codes to Daniel, first make sure he can get those doors open, then move to the hangar to help One."

Re: Act 3:  The Assault

Darak is with Five when it is time to head out.

In the brief moment that five is giving orders he checks over his medical supplies, and squars himself away. Though he can't use the rifle effectively, he does make sure to take along an extra power pack. Another standard power pack for his blaster pistol should guarantee he has ammo for task at hand.

Though he spent most of his life as a Doctor, several years of training in the junior officer program had left it's mark. In sorting himself out he spared no attention to detail - as if he were in unfirom. Quick motions spoke of drill, pocket flaps needed fastening, shoes needed to be tighter, and he really must look pretty shabby with his recent lack of shaving ...

Feeling his beard he does have an idea to grab any remaining grenades and the respirators from the fallen trandoshans. He will offer a respirator and all but one of the stun-gas Grenades (if any remain) to Five.

He will also loot any other useful gear from the fallen guards to better equip himself.

"No, I'm Five, and One is in the hangar right now," Jamie corrected the programmer.
"Don't open anything else yet, we need to keep these people in one place for now.  Alright, let's move out!"
Unless there are any more questions, Jamie will stow the extra rifle on his back again, ready his own, and lead Darak outside towards C&C.
"We should check the communications center first; there should be a few bound Trandoshans in there.  If not we'll have to watch out for them.  If they're still there we will proceed to the barracks."

Keeping an eye on both the barracks and medical centre doors, Exilim settles back into the role of quietly keeping a lookout for potential trouble, the heavy repeater ready to fire.

As before when things were more settled his mind recalls parts of his previous life and his reasons for joining up with the Commander. The thought of the Commander reminds him that there is still more to be done. He makes himself start thinking of what may be ahead and the plans that are yet to be completed.
