Re: Act 4: The Escape

Jek turned to Jamie.  "Five. . .sir.  I have some flight experience in light freighters so I could fly that transport if I was needed.  I'm no gunner and I've never even sat in a fighter."

"However I would prefer it if I had no role as such with operating these vessels.  There are going to be a good fifty confused and scared prisoners on board.  They know me.  I feel I could best serve them by staying with them, providing what comfort I can."

Re: Act 4: The Escape

Nirro switches his blaster pistol to stun but keeps it in its holster. I'd rather go up in a fighter as I do not know how to fly one of those freighters. If you prefer though I could serve one of the shipboard functions.

Re: Act 4: The Escape

Jamie took a good look at the hangar, counting ships and pilots and considering his options.
"Two, I see you eyeballing those fighters, but I'm going to need you elsewhere.  You will be the pilot-in-command of the transport because you're the best man for the job.  Your task is to get all the slaves and prisoners from point A to point B as safely as possible.
"Roy, I'd like you to be Two's co-pilot.  Follow his direction; hopefully you won't need to be a good shot."

Jamie casts an eye to the fighters again, weighing his remaining options.
"The Headhunters will be flown by Eight and Eleven; Four and I will fly the Cloakshapes.  Jek, Daniel, and Darak will help One in securing the slaves, as well as the prisoners in the communications center.  When we lift off, Darak and Daniel will act as gunners for the transport, while Jek stays with the slaves."
Jamie stood at attention before the Commander, not sure of himself at that point.
"One, do you have a shipboard task in mind for yourself?  I'd hate to order you around, but I was thinking you should lead the crew of the transport."
He glanced around at the others as well, asking, "Does anyone have a problem with his assigned task?  If not, let's get started."

Re: Act 4: The Escape

Daniel nods at the position he has been given. "I've got no problems with my position, but if One feels that he would be better able to handle the weapons I can watch the slaves to make sure they don't get out of hand." He was quite sure that he could handle the ships weapons but he also knew what could happen if the slaves got rowdy. In any case he prepared for the worst by switching his weapon to stun. Hopefully he wouldn't have to use it but you can never be too safe.

Darak nods and says "Affirmative Five." He will follow orders with gusto, and as Jek knows the slaves he will follow Jek's lead in handling them unless ordered otherwise by one of the Mercs.

Re: Act 4: The Escape

Mark nods to Jamie.  "I'll be serving several roles.  We have no mechanic on the team at the moment so if needs be I'll serve as engineer.  I'll also serve as overall transport commander and tactician if required.  Hopefully though we've seen the last of the fighting for a while."

He noted Flash's disappointed look and gave him a not-so-gentle whack in the shoulder.

"You'll have more combat than you can stomach before long Two. I promise you that.  Now make sure you've got this tub ready to fly.  You're going to have over fifty people relying on your skill including your commanding officer.  You get me killed up there and I swear I'll haunt you for eternity.  Get moving."

Mark turns, offers Jamie a quick nod and moves back to preparing the final Cloakshape fighter for flight.

Exilim listens patiently as Jaime issued the ship allocations. Noting the suggestions by the others present, he decides that there is nothing for him to add for the moment.

"No problems Five" he says as he picks up his gear and heads to his ship.

He will stow his gear and then check out his fighter to make sure that it is ready to go.

Re: Act 4: The Escape

Still working on the last Cloakshape, Devon gave Jamie a simple thumbs-up in response to his orders and concentrated on finishing his job whilst the others finalized plans.

When he had finished his work on the last fighter, Devon hurried to begin pre-flight on his Z-95 whilst the others hurried about their tasks.  Sat in the cockpit, Devon sealed the canopy, pulled his helmet on and started flicking switches to begin powering different systems up.

'Comms check - this is Eleven; how do I sound?  Once he got an affirmative, Devon switched his fighters comm-system over to the private channel it shared with the other Z-95.

Re: Act 4: The Escape

Jamie nods as things seem to be falling into place.
"Though you may not be the best co-pilot around," he answered Roy.  "We don't have many pilots available.  We shouldn't need an engineer in-flight anyway unless we have major problems, in which case One can cover you.  Good call on the AA gun.  Don't ignore it, though, or some of us could have a real short trip.  If there are any slavers out there they might be able to get it back online."
Jamie checks to make sure the others are following orders while Mark and Devon ready his ship.  When the ship is ready, as his is the last, he gives it an abbreviated preflight, checking for physical damage, fuel quantity, and control response.
After finally settling himself in the cockpit, he gives the necessary instruments and systems - life support, weapons, nav aids, airspeed, and so on - a once-over before testing his own comm system with a smack of his lips and a "Tasting, tasting, one two three."
Jamie breathes a long sigh and closes his eyes for a moment as several lines of thought paraded through his mind.
Well, Jamie, you're finally back in a starfighter.  It's been a long time, but I guess you can't keep a fighter pilot down.  How long has it been since a real cockpit?  And this one actually has life support!
He opened his eyes and returned to reality, hopping out of the cockpit of the preflighted Cloakshape to check on everyone else's progress.

Re: Act 4: The Escape

Once Darak is finished assigned tasks he will take up position at a gunnery station on the transport.

This is a new ship class for him, so that means three run throughs of system familliarization. Cycling through his station functions he also takes note of any non-gunnery functions linked through the console, in case he is called upon to do something else in a pinch.

When it came time to do the internal comms check he sent out to the other stations (on internal intercomm) "Darak at Gunnery Alpha here. Station status board shows normal on indicators (see OOC below)."

Darak thinks to himself Now this is something. When the pirates had set upon him and his ship mates he had just begun to dream about a flight position, but with the Bothans it was endless certifications and testing. Now he was here, right in the thick of things, and he could finally apply the mountain of theory he had to learn in class. Sure, he had made officer very early with his credentials as a Doctor, but it only put him farther away from the cockpit in the Bothan system. Medical certification in the BEC service had taken time away from flight courses. Now, sitting at a station and ready to go Darak felt more at home than ever before.

OOC: If something doesn't show green, is abnormal, etc. it is reported "except X".

Daniel hurriedly completes his tasks along with Jek, Darak and One. He makes sure to double check the captured prisoners making sure they are properly restrained then checks to make sure all the slaves are secure on board the transport ship.

Joining Darak in the transport ship he take the second gunners position and begins a diagnostic run on his station. Hearing the others loud and clear Daniel switches on his comm system. "Daniel here. Weapons functional and everything seems to check out."

Re: Act 4: The Escape

"Understood five."

Mark takes a position in one of the rear seats in the cockpit of the freighter.  Until they were spacebound there was little for him to do.  He turned to the comms station at his console.

"All wings and stations, this is one.  Call in your status and lets prepare to move out.  Since we're blocking you all in I guess we'll head out first.  Two will take us out first and taxi us to the side.  We'll let the fighters take off first to give us some cover."

He switches off the comm and nods to Flash.  "Take us out and then roll her to the far side of the field.  We'll let the fighters take off first."
