Epilogue:  Failure through success

The return to Indefatigable was without ceremony or fanfare.  Disguised as a  routine personnel transfer, the Talons and their new allies were shown to a disused cargo bay.  Food and amenities were provided, but they were essentially made prisoners in the area; nobody in, nobody out.

The commander had yet to make an appearance.  After arriving aboard the frigate he had been whisked away to debriefing with command staff.  The slaves had already been transported to a Galloway transport for debriefing and relocation.

Hours passed without anyone approaching.  Any attempts to leave were met by a pair of stone-faced armed guards.  No questions were answered, no explainations given.

After nearly six hours, the doors opened and Zyra returned.

Re: Epilogue:  Failure through success

Zyra had managed to find time to change into an Alliance uniform and little else.  Seeing the food on offer, she immediately helped herself.  Between mouthfuls of food, she began to speak.

"The commander sends his regrets and will be with us as soon as possible.  He's still debriefing on the mission.  Last I heard, the language he was using is not the good commander uses to address a general."

"Anyway, I have been fully briefed on your actions since I left you to pursue my own line of investigation.  The commander wanted me to debrief you on the mission, especially the raid.  I already know more about the Blood Axes then you do so we need to focus on how you performed as a combat unit."

"Before we start I'm sure you all would like to know that Nirro is stable but still in a coma.  My congratulations to Jek and Darak.  The doctors don't understand how he survived.  They didn't think he should have made it to the operating table, let alone a trip back to the ship."

"Secondly, the slaves are all safe and sound and on their way to a free colony.  Already they are spreading word of the 'Crusaders' and their heroism.  Fortunately none of them are aware of our true identity or affiliation.  Its better for all that way."

"Anyway, back to debriefing.  Who wants to start?"

Re: Epilogue:  Failure through success

Jamie had been sitting in a corner with his eyes closed, resting his blaster-injured side.
"I'd like to start," Jamie chimed in, raising his hand and standing slowly.  "By remembering our fallen comrade.  Cyril didn't make it.  He was a true hero; he died trying to free slaves.  I don't know where he came from, but his family should be notified that he died a hero.  Nirro almost paid the same price, but thanks to our doctors he has survived.
"Despite our loss, every man here followed directions well and kept his head under fire.  In fact, everyone did more than was expected of him.  We even picked up extra allies along the way who have been a phenomenal help.
"I think the best thing we can do to improve our effectiveness is equip ourselves with better weaponry; more grenades, more powerful rifles, et cetera."
