Mission Datapad

I know that it can be hard to keep track of everything going on in a mission so I'm creating a thread everyone has access to in which to jot down relevant mission notes.  This way if you're ever stuck, you can go back over the notes.  I will make a few entries to get things started:

<Let me know if this thread is beneficial or not>

Re: Mission Datapad

Current Objectives

* Locate a source of fuel for the Black Talon's warships or a steady source of credits with which to purchase fuel.  The Talons are also quite low on credits.

* Determine fate of missing crew
  - Zyra Jax (Last seen in Imperial Base on Phindar Prime.  ?Escaped or captured)
  - Bishop, Zenna Kern & Daron Fellinx (Last seen on petrochem plant sabotage mission.  ?KIA when rigged explosives detonated)

Points of Note
* The Imperial Governor in the Phindar system is recruiting mercenary groups (like the Talons for various jobs including surveillance, sabotage and escort duties.

* There have been two noteworthy attacks by pirate forces in the past few weeks: the bombing of the civilian spaceport with a thermobaric weapon which killed tens of thousands, and the attack on the weapons convoy that the Talons fought off.  While there is no evidence the attacks are linked, both were well organised strikes.

Re: Mission Datapad

Fuel Suppliers - Courtesy of Sheila

1. Typhon Energy

Typhon Energy is a massive congomerate that supplies most of the fuel for military operations within the local arm of the galaxy (numerous sectors).  They have the tender for supplying fuel in the Phindar sector (and in typical Imperial fashion have strangled out the competition).

The advantages of hitting these guys is that they have several plants (4 on various moons/planets) and numerous fuel convoys you can hit.  Also any damage you do to these guys reduces fuel to the military (the plant Bishop's team destroyed belongs to Typhon Energy).  The disadvantage is their convoys and plants are well protected by the Imperials (especially after your act of sabotage) making them tougher to take.

2.  Phindar Petrochem

This is a sector based company that deals mainly in fuel for the security and agricultural sector.  They do supply some fuel to Imperials (when Typhon can't, etc) and have been trying to expand but are being effectively squeezed out by Typhon.

These guys would have less security to deal with but also less convoys.  They have two processing plants on heavily populated worlds.  Hitting these guys does not hurt the Imps (though that is a secondary consideration).

3.  Zandar Corporation

Zandar corproation runs a number of fuelling stations for the retail sector.  They are a family-run corporation with no Imperial ties (aside from paying taxes etc).  These guys would be easiest to hit as they have very little security.  However little of their fuel is military grade (though a little refining will fix that).  They have one manufacturing plant.

many crews & locals are out of work.
Few jobs with the other companies
6 hothers, 3 ZZZZ, 1 goopers original ale
very few jobs with other companies

sometimes a patrol craft or frigate and a few fighters escort the fleet
Phindar Petrochem are desperately trying to hold on to business

Re: Mission Datapad

Current Missin & To-Do List

* Black Talons are being given security responsibilities for convoys

Talons need to safely escort three Action IV freighters to the fourth moon of Phindar VII.  Failure of this convoy to arrive safely will result in bankruptcy of Phindar Petroleum.

* Travel to Phindar 5 to meet with Phindar Petroleum Reps

* Need to determine what equipment (fighters & gear is to be taken)
(Gear is in bse inventory thread)

* Aryan needs to be tested on the simulators

* Jamie and Xill need to rework the roster

Re: Mission Datapad

Sheila asked an excellent question, namely the history of attacks on Phindar ships by pirates so I thought I'd post it here.  Could be useful at some point.

There are records for 5 Phindar freighters being attacked in the last month.

Attack 1 & 2 - Disappeared without trace
Attack 3 - Badly damaged escaped into hyperspace
Attack 4 - No casualties, fuel siphoned off into another freighter, all ships and personnel released
Attack 5 - Same as convoy 4 but both Cloakshape escorts destroyed

There is no record of the pirates ever hijacking vessels (though the first 2 convoys there is no way of knowing what happened).  Attack 3 was a violent attack.  The last 2 attacks were smart.  By taking the fuel but leaving the ships you can hijack them again and by leaving the crew alive it means they're more likely to surrender (you kill everyone and people may run as they have nothing to lose).

Assuming they 'got smart' with convoy 4 & 5 it's worth noting why change tactics now?  This is the first time Phindar has sent a convoy of 3 freighters (in the past it's always been a single freighter).  The convoy is a desperation move (they have to move lots of fuel fast to avoid going under).

Perhaps the pirates know Phindar is going under so they figure it's time to grab all they can (and the convoy is a tempting target).  Perhaps this is a calculated move to deliberately bankrupt Phindar rather then just fleece them (an Action IV freighter is worth nearly a million credits, with a full tank of fuel it's worth even more!  Phindar can't afford that kind of loss, especially since they've lost so much.)
