Re: Act 5.4.1 - A Hotel Floor Where Something is Happening

Dohr Veen sat still on the balcony of the suite with his eyes closed and breathed slowly and deep. He let the sounds of the Det Akarian atmosphere flow in. Naturally the air, though fairly clean at the height of the hotel floor, smelled pretty much the same as it did anywhere else through his breathing apparatus. And even though there weren't any air speeder lanes very close to the hotel, there was a constant hum of traffic in the air. But it didn't bother the Kel Dorian doctor, he was already a long time ago on a planet far, far away inside his mind.

It had been a while since Dohr had last allowed himself to think back on his life on the homeworld. Remembering mother and father was rather painful to him as he no longer could bring up their real faces, only something he thought they had looked like. As his thoughts drifted from the meditation pavilion at the pond to the family palace, the whole place was as it he had last seen it - empty. There was no one to be found anywhere. The whole estate was completely deserted. And as always the trip down the memory lane ended at the same spot. He had dug the grave himself on the day he had found General Glo Veen and his wife Shara dead. It seemed to be the one thing of his previous life he still could return to in meditation.

But although the daydream wasn't very pleasant as it nearly never was, it still helped Dohr calm down. As he opened his goggled eyes, the heir of the Veen family felt relaxed and full of energy. He knew he hadn't and never would really master the art of meditation though. Not like his parents.

Arin gave Heigren a nod and once more dug out the comlink. "Forim, Rathon", was the call, "Located Vyn and he seems to have things reasonbly well under control. Want me to do something more, or do you think, it's safe to leave him in charge of the situation for now?" He didn't sound exactly worried over the comm.

"Safe to leave him in charge?" Flash echoed.  "We don't really have a choice in the matter, we have no official jurisdiction.  If our rooms seem secure then leave him to it.  Join the party, go out, do whatever."

Re: Act 5.4.1 - A Hotel Floor Where Something is Happening

The mediation break had been a good, quick way to calm Dohr's mind for a moment. But now that he was back inside the suite, the bounding noise from the function room invaded his senses again. Sighing the doctor rolled his shoulders a few times to increase blood circulation, grabbed the knob of his cane and started making his way to the door. He could hear the shower was no longer running though, so Dohr paused and called to Jit: "We can talk about the Duros later, if you would like to. Though I fear there is not much to tell. Oh and I just realized I have not eaten all day, so I will go and see if some suitable nourishment is available for my kind as well."

Not waiting for a response, the Kel Dor left the room making sure the door locked behind him. He had a look around for Mr. Teckla. But as the host was not in sight, Dohr decided his best chance to get some food was in the main area of the party. He sidestepped to let another laughing couple pass and then headed for the function room.

Heigren stood in the hallway nearby but out of earshot as Arin made his comm call.  Seeing Dohr emerge from the suite he and Jit had entered, he waved the Kel Dor and beckoned him to join them.

Dohr nodded to Vyn and limped over. The noise in the function room was still very loud and the music not to his liking, but refreshed by the outside air and the quick relaxing meditation, Dohr let the annoyance of it all slip into the background in his mind and tried to think positively. Reaching the host, the Kel Dor scanned the room and the people slowly and nodded to the host of the party again. "Quite a success these festivities of yours. My compliments on your success."

The doctor shifted his weight from his bad leg to the good one and had another look around. "I was wondering if I could request one of your staff to arrange me a little something to eat? I fear my day has been quite busy and I have neglected my need for nourishment completely. And now I am starting to feel quite hungry."

"Of course, of course."  Heigren signalled to a waiter.  "Bring my friend here a selection of the best food we have suited to a Kel Dor.  Also ensure we have some of his favourite drink."

Once the waitstaff had moved off, Heigren gestured to Arin, once he'd finished his comm call.

"Dohr Veen, let me introduce you to Rathon Dann.  A colleague of mine and pilot of no small skill.  You may recall he won the swoop race today, the one where you kindly took care of our friend Kimi.  Rathon also works for the same employer as I.  Rathon I'm planning to give Dohr's name to the boss.  Dohr is a doctor and he's eager to get off planet."

"Okay. Rathon out", Arin said and slipped the comlink on to his belt. He then extended his hand to the Kel Dor for a greeting. "Well met, doctor", the young human male said politely. It was clear, the man was of good breeding and fine manners without being pompous or overbearing. "And my most sincere thanks for the treatment of my colleague. She got off lightly considering the seriousness of the crash."

Re: Act 5.4.1 - A Hotel Floor Where Something is Happening

At first Jit was quite puzzled because of Dohr's act to leave the suite without even waiting for his response. In the end the Twi'lek was interested to know whether the Kel Dorian doctor recognized the mentioned Duros or not. Soon he realized that the situation was actually quite intriguing at his point of view though. He was left alone in a luxury set of rooms where one could find all kinds of fascinating things! Assumingly the cleaners of the hotel had checked places quite carefully already, but who knows if there was still something worth grabbing. Besides, it was a suite after all, so there should be luxury items 'on the house' that might arouse his interest.

The question concerning the Duros could wait.

(OOC: Jit will spend something like five minutes to quickly search the suite. He's keen on valuable items, free booze and elegant, costly male clothes. After that he'll dress up, grab a bottle of expensive spirit and head to room eleven. This all will happen if no one interrupts his doings inside the suite.)

The suite would contain the usual items - fully stocked minibar, complementary towels, robes and slippers, shampoo bottles, etc.  Hotels don't normally supply clothes.  You can get free booze from the minibar, however the party is open bar so you can get all the free booze you want in the main area too!  There's nothing really of great value that is small enough to pocket.  Maybe the odd chrono (clock) and some basic silverware, etc.

Nobody comes in while you're searching the room.

Somewhat impatient personality as he was, the fixer shortly lost his interested in searching the suite more thoroughly. There seemed to be nothing but ordinary hotel stuff available, and continuing such fruitless search would only lead him to miss the party of the century!

Hastily drying himself on a towel, dressing up (abandoning his wet shirt though) and checking that he looked good enough in the mirror, Jit grabbed a bottle of expensive spirit. Room Eleven, here I come

(OOC: Jit will head to room eleven unless his intention is interrupted by someone or something worth mentioning.)

Heigren waved as he saw the now shirtless Jit exit the room holding a bottle of expensive spirit.

"Over here, over here.  Would you like a glass for your drinks?  Perhaps I can introduce you to my colleague Rathon?  Skilled pilot who won the first swoop race on Det Akari he ever entered.  On an old JR-4 no less!  Imagine the odds a better could have got on him."

The Zeltron sounds disappointed he hadn't been there to place a bet.  He didn't hold the Twi'lek up if he was intent on getting to room eleven however.

Re: Act 5.4.1 - A Hotel Floor Where Something is Happening

Broad smile appeared on Jit's face as he saw his contact and their host. He gave a brief, friendly nod at Dohr and formally shook hand with the human male, but Jit's attention was fully on the Zeltron. Mister Teckla it is - always looking after his guests' well-being! Best host ever! And the party has hardly started! Let's have heck of a fun tonight! Devoting this swallow to honour your most gracious hospitality, Mister Teckla! The broker took a proper sip from his bottle... actually a bit too proper since he was forced to cough after the swallow. Then he passed the bottle on the host of the party.

Very kind of you Sir, but no need for a glass. Easier to carry a bottle in a crowded party... You see, the liquor might be spilled from a glass, so many people around here. Someone might even get wet due to accidental bumping, haha! Letting out a minor laugh, Jit smiled and winked at the Zeltron. Uuuh, mind if ask you one more minor favour, good Sir? Everyone could notice that the Twi'lek didn't wore a shirt under his open robe and leather jacket, and now he started to highlight the view by revealing his hairless chest even more. If there happen to be a dry, nice gentlemen's shirt at my side around, would really appreciate it! Size 42, slender design, please. Not that big deal though, can easily have huge fun without a shirt too!

Finally the partygoer turned his attention to the human male. Getting a better look at him, he stated coaxingly: Well well well... A new champion of Det Akari what it comes to swoop racing, eh? Don't know much about swoops as preferring space transports and hot chicks myself when in need of a good ride, but JR-4 sounds ancient to me! Well done dude, excellent job there! One more reason to do utterly crazy things tonight! After that Jit 'gave Rathon a five', assuming that the human responded his clap. Tell me man, was it at the Claws District where you managed to won the race? Never gamble myself, but familiar with few professional and reliable bookies there and happen to know the area quite well. Haven't heard any JR-4 winners lately... Agreed, you surely must be a newcomer around.

The fixer keenly observed the human's response.

Re: Act 5.4.1 - A Hotel Floor Where Something is Happening

Doctor Veen bowed politely to Arin. The human had clearly been trained in the art of speech at some point in his life. It was obvious he wasn't a regular speeder jockey like most locals on Akari. He was too well behaved for that. Vyn saved Dohr from the trouble of sizing Rathon up. A pilot, eh? That explained the good reflexes needed to handle a speeder bike well enough to win a race.

Of course Dohr didn't really know whether the human's job was piloting a heavy transport or a fighter, but with his bike skills, it was probably the latter. It didn't really matter anyway. Dohr wasn't a nosey person by nature even if he liked observing people. Would he need to know more about Mr. Teckla's friends, we would no doubt learn about them later.

"It is a real pleasure to meet you Mr. Dann. And, if you do not mind me saying, a welcome change to notice there is a more composed side to your team as well." It might be hard for someone who isn't familiar with Dohr Veen's personality to know whether he is joking or not, but the Kel Dor is dead serious behind his mask. He does not tend ridicule anyone. To the doctor fighting inside a group of professionals is not a good sign of a healthy team. He does however consider small scale clashes quite natural when members of different species are working closely together, especially when such people are not intimately aware of each other's personality traits and twists.

"And please, no need to thank me for doing my job. But I do have to agree, young Kimy was very, very lucky to get off so lightly from the crash. I have seen so many end up in a lot worse state or even dead in the very same corner. I have no wish to belittle her piloting skills, but I am sure you noticed yourself, the track is not an easy one. Crashes are quite frequent and unfortunately they are not always due to lack of skill either…"

Before the conversation got any further, their host noticed Jit coming out of the suite and beckoned him over. Dohr waited until the Twi'lek reached them and held his words back as the Zeltron beat him to introducing Rathon. It was then Jit-time again, with the words flooding so fast out of the fixer's mouth that it took all of Dohr's willpower not to shake his head in disbelief. He'd known the man for well over a year now and had had numerous chats with him, but even now Jit managed to surprise him with his nonsense talking abilities - in a positive way.

After the Twi'lek was done, Dohr turned to Rathon and continued: "Mr. Dann, may I present to you my associate Jitt'quin 'Shak." The Kel Dor accepted the drink and a small snack with a nod from the waiter Vyn had sent off earlier. "Oh and please let me congratulate you on your victory too. No small feat for an outsider and especially a first timer on the track. You must be one of the best pilots we have had the pleasure to have racing on the Tracks."

Re: Act 5.4.1 - A Hotel Floor Where Something is Happening

"I must point out that while the JR-4 is indeed older than the mostly custom-built bikes one often sees at the races, it is not an ancient hunk of metal. And with the tracks like the Claws District's, it is not all about speed but also maneuverability. You go too fast and you'll end up a wet stain on some wall. Swoop racing is, contradictory to what most believe, all about the balance of things."

The human did not seem very cross about the fact, his swoop had been called old, but there was a hint in the manner he spoke about swoop racing, he had indeed been around that particular block a time and again. "But, pleased to make your acquaintance, gentlemen. I won't bore you with technicalities about the race - not everyone enjoys them the way I do." Definitely a man of breeding, of old money and power, much older than the Imperium, even if personally young. And of course he was also a pleasant sight for a human to behold, if one fancied human males.

Heigren volunteered the information before Dohr especially started to wonder why an 'anti-Imperial' group had a member who was so visibly Imperial.

Arin gave Heigren a glance that suggested, it might be a good time to shut up - announcing him a former Imperial would easily raise too many questions and blow his cover identity. And his identity blown, it would most likely blow the identity of the rest of the Talons, or at least bring them in to questionable light.

Heigren either missed the meaning of Arin's glare or simply ignored it.  Given the Zeltron's skill at reading people, it was likely the latter possibility.

Re: Act 5.4.1 - A Hotel Floor Where Something is Happening

Mr. Teckla's announcement did at the same time come as a surprise to Dohr and not. He'd picked up the signs right away when he saw the human. At first glance it had been quite obvious that the speeder king was a soldier by training and heart. Old habits died hard. The doctor knew it very well from personal experience. It had been more than a decade since he had last walked the paved the roads of the Dorinian garrison wearing the orange, silver and blue uniform of the DDF, but he knew he still often acted like the soldier he had been.

It had been no different tonight as he and Jit had stepped out from the hotel elevator. The first thing the doctor had made a mental note of had been the two humans standing nearby. They had both been wearing waiter outfits and carried them like men of the profession would. Both had, although straight-backed, had a fairly relaxed posture and not the kind hired muscle would. It wouldn't have been the first party in which guards had been disguised as waiters, but at the moment there didn't seem to be any need for security to be present. Dohr had naturally looked for CCTV in the hallway and though he hadn't seen any, he knew they would be there at convenient spots around the common areas of the floor. On the quick tour around the floor with Vyn he'd noted the emergency exits and a few dangerous looking individuals in addition to the gangers, Mr. Dann included. The training he'd received was apparently impossible to suppress. Not that Dohr really wanted to. It had saved his life a number of times.

There was an air of confidence to Rathon Dann that spelled Imperial. His mannerisms and demeanor stressed the point. No. Vyn hadn't really revealed a secret to Dohr. Though the look on Rathon's face said he felt Mr. Teckla had. And it was no wonder. Det Akari wasn't really known for its friendliness towards the Empire and Mr. Teckla had said as much himself. There wouldn't be too many people happy to see an imperial - retired or not - present at the party. It had been a bold move by the Zeltron. Dohr felt Vyn was trying to buy his confidence or trust by giving out such sensitive information to an alien who was virtually a total stranger. A bold move indeed. Then again as a Kel Dorian, doctor Dohr Veen didn't really fit the mold of an imperial by any measure.

Dohr bowed again to both men. "Fear not, Mr. Dann. Your secret is safe with me. And I hope you are not offended, when I say am glad to hear you have left your old life behind. I do not have to kill you now." It's difficult to say when a Kel Dor is serious or when one is pulling your leg, but what Dohr just said he said with a straight face. And would Rathon have known him better, he would've known Dohr Veen does not lie. Was there a threat hidden in the sentence or not? Who knows.

Heigren laughed.  "Personally I wouldn't make the fact Rathon is a FORMER Imperial a secret Doc, quite the opposite.  There are many people here who would happily knife a suspected Imperial in the kidneys and leave him to bleed.  Letting people know Rathon left the Empire, shows his smart and brave enough to avoid the easy choice."

Re: Act 5.4.1 - A Hotel Floor Where Something is Happening

Jit rubbed his chin with a thoughtful expression on his faces while he listened the conversation. The Zeltron and the Human belonged to a multinational group from the outside world, and they seemed to be keen on recruiting more specialists to their crew. They were clearly newcomers in Det Akari as well. Too many coincidences here... The Kel Dorian doctor seemed to be right what it came to his doubts. There was a very high probability that Jit and Dohr were dealing with the same off-worlders who hired him to deliver hardware, ships, ground vehicles and professionals for them!

Besides, what was all this talk about an ex-imperial at this present company? Even though Jit didn't have a habit of expressing his anti-imperialistic opinions publicly, he had many reasons to hate the so called New Galactic Order. Wherever there were imperials around, Jit had to be extra careful. As long as no one knew he was chased by the Imperium, the Twi'lek was most likely safe.

Anyway, Jit was sure about one thing: he wanted to know more about this group from the off-world. The more he knew about them, the better chances he had to use this knowledge to his advantage.

"Riches to arrange this fabulous party? Skills to win a swoop race on one of the most challenging tracks in the universe? And the biggest surprise to amaze them all: a tamed, compassioned ex-imperial as one of your trusted fellow worker? He winked at the Human male. Hehe, what are we missing here? A shaved Wookie? Or maybe a maniacal Duros? Gee exciting stuff, I love it! Wonder if you'd have a spot for me too, guys? Haha, I'm a Twi'lek of many skill! Information gathering, spying, big bombs, space transports... you name it, dudes! Please can I join you too? Would be so cool to finally kick those imperials' ass!

It was all an utter lie. Jit didn't have any intention to join the off-worlders, but he wanted to get to know these two better and gradually gather more information about the group's goals and acts.

"I'll make a note of your name." Heigren said honestly and he preceded to do just that.  He didn't know why the Twi'lek was lying but it concerned him, concerned him a lot.  An information broker who claimed he wanted to join a group when he didn't screamed of Imperial Intelligence, or perhaps a freelance spy.  The latter seemed more likely but he couldn't rule anything out.

"If you're still interested in visiting room eleven I'm sure you wont be disappointed.  I'll have a shirt left on one of the hooks for you if you like.  You won't need a shirt in there."  He didn't add he wouldn't need any of his clothes in there, if the Twi'lek wanted to enter, he knew what the room was for.
