"I borrowed her credit chip."  Fiarr replied.  "I had every intention of returning it to the hotel tomorrow, after the owner made a small donation to the refuge here.  I felt a gift of food and blankets for the victims of the Empire was appropriate recompense for an Imperial.  Of course, perhaps her behaviour was just inappropriate and not that of an Imperial."  The Bothan sounded uncertain.

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

Flash remained silent, letting Mika do the talking.  He was more worried about how they were now surrounded.  Oruvenn and Kyvarr on one side and this Bothan on the other.  How had the Bothan crept up on them like that.

The only one he was fairly confident would be no threat was the Duros, Laide.  He looked like he'd faint if someone said boo to him.

Mika shrugs.  "The people here certainly seem deserving of some support and goodwill and I'd like to help out, but as I don't have access to any funds right now, I'm not in a position to make donations."

"What they deserve, is their lives back, a place to call home and a freedom from the trauma the Empire inflicted upon them."

"However that is not why we are here right now.  I have one question for you, a question I want a simple yes or no answer to.  The question is simple, please answer honestly.  If I had not taken your money, would you have still come here tonight to apologise?"

Kyvarr grumbles to herself but says nothing.  She didn't know what Fiarr was playing at.  Talk was the Bothan's strong point, not hers.

Flush shuffled uncomfortably.  He knew the answer to Fiarr's question.  What he didn't know was wether Mika would lie or tell the truth and how the Bothan would react.

'The Bothan first, she's the dangerous one.' he thought to himself, planning should he need to strike.  'Then a quick backswing to deal with the Cathar.  The big alien was the unknown factor.'

He continued running contingencies through his mind, planning for the worst.

Mika takes a moment to consider the Bothan's question.  "I suspect not.  You wouldn't have left the breadcrumbs for me to follow you here, my anger wouldn't have been focused on you specifically, I wouldn't have seen the conditions here...  May I have my credit chip back?"

Fiarr sighs.  "That wasn't the question I was asking.  I think you know that.  What I was asking is that if you hadn't lost you money would you have even bothered trying to seek out Laide or any of the other guests you assaulted?  A simple yes or no will suffice."

Fiarr nodded, reached into a pocket and pulled out Mika's credit chip.  "Honest enough answer."

She looked at the chip, then threw it to the human.  "Well, the refuge wont be getting a donation of food and blankets today, but at least I've increased your awareness.  The reach of the Empire is long and even on a world like Det Akari, it is felt.  Even regular people can fight this tyranny.  Not necessarily with blasters and fists like Kyvarr and I do, but with compassion and awareness.  These are powerful tools also."

Mika catches the chip, giving Fiarr a measured look.  Finally, "Thank you.  You know, if you really want to stick it to the Imps...."

She turns to Flash, "What do you think?  She'd be a pretty useful person to have on the team, wouldn't she?

Flash was surprised at Mika's suggestion and took a few moments to answer.

"Uh. . .sure.  In fact, Vyn had already asked me to give this woman his comm code.  Seems he had the same idea as you.  Planned to introduce her to the boss he said."

Oruvenn doesn't say a thing through this exchange but when people start talking about 'teams' he coughs and lays a hand on Laide's shoulder.  "This is not a conversation you or I should be hearing, Laide.  Come on, I'll get you a caf."  He makes sure the Duros is ready to go before turning to the others again.  "Nice to meet you both," he says to the newcomers.  Then he turns to Fiarr.  "As for you, Fiarr, Extending people's awareness of the plight of refugees is important but I highly suggest you properly listen to a person's response before deciding whether or not they've answered you."  Then, presuming he's not stopped, he leaves with Laide.

Fiarr gave a slight bow to Oruvenn.  "As you say."  She wasn't sure what exactly he was getting at, no more then she knew what this human was now talking about.  She looked quizzically at Kyvarr.  Maybe the Cathar would know what this was about.

Kyvarr stared blankly back at Fiarr.  If the Bothan didn't know what this was about, then she wasn't likely to.  Since the human had walked off to talk to Oruvenn. she looked instead to the Duros.

"What's this all about?  What's the deal with the human?"

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

"All I can say is that Kimy and I are about as far from being Imperial as you can imagine.  In fact the group we work with has made a career out of making Imperials suffer.  I think you just caught her on a particularly bad mood at the party.  She'd been cranky all evening over something."

Flash was getting impatient.  If Mika wanted to invite the Bothan to meet with Mark then she should do so.  He wasn't sure if she meant to invite the Cathar as well.  The two seemed to know each other but the Cathar had shown no skills of note.  Either way, he wanted to be done.  Once security issues were dealt with he planned to enjoy some of what Heigren's party had to offer.

"No surprise there." Fiarr chuckled after heaing Kyvarr's words.

She turned to Flash.  "Your friend may not think it, but it's a good thing I was in that bedroom with Laide and not Kyvarr here.  Kyvarr would not have been as. . .delicate.  I imagine your human friend would not be conscious at present if my friend here had been there.  Unconscious and needing major dental surgery."

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

Oruvenn pauses as Kimy catches up but at the conversation he snaps at the others.

"ENOUGH!"  His voice takes on a growling quality for a moment and a definite spike of fear can be felt rippling across the area.  Gathering himself he says in a quieter voice, "There is more anti-human sentiment in this one building than most of the rest of Det Akari combined."  He doesn't say this as a hypothetical; he says it as fact.  "This is not a war room.  If you're going to talk about such... disruptive issues I suggest you do so out on the street or in a cantina where you're less likely to instigate a riot of hatred."

Then he looks down at Kimy again.  "I apologise for losing my temper.  Tomorrow, Kimy.  Right now I need to tend to my duties."  He clearly means tending to Laide but is polite enough not to say it.  "If you need to talk about something related to the shelter than the Bothan who I assume let you in, Shana, will be able to help you."  He turns away and starts leading the even more scared Laide out.  "Unnervingly enough, she manages all of the finances here."

Flash went uncharacteristically quiet after Oruvenn's outburst.  He handed the flimsi he had to Fiarr.  "Vyn's comm code.  Talk to him about if you're interested in maybe joining us.  Your friend too.  I'd wait until tomorrow though."

He stood quietly waiting for Mika to finish.

Mika seems a bit stunned by Oruvenn's words, her eyes blinking and her face blanching.  "Uhm, sure, of course."

Turning, she looks at Flash, "Ready?  I'd like to have a quick word with the Bothan woman who let us in, but otherwise I think we're done here."

She moves, a bit more hasty than the situation demands, "A good evening to you all.  Oruvenn, my thanks."

Assuming, Flash is ready, Mika leads the way back up to the main door, stopping to have a private word with Shana.  Afterwards, she suggests they head back for the hotel.

Fiarr stood transfixed by Oruvenn's outburst for a few moments.  She took the flimsi from the Duros without a word.

When the pair left, Fiarr looked to Kyvarr.  "Well that was. . .unexpected.  I expected the human to cause trouble.  Instead I think she might have just offered us a job.  Most strange.  I'll check in with you later."

The Bothan headed for the stairs.

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

Shana seems particularly unimpressed at Mika's request for a private talk but nods and takes her into a small, cramped office with a computer terminal that's easily over two decades old and a caf machine of similar age.  They're left alone briefly as Flash waits outside.

When she finds out why Mika wants to talk, though, the Bothan is her best friend.  When the door opens and Mika steps out Shana is nodding her head in thanks and shaking the humans hand.  She personally sees them off from the door.

And then, a short taxi-ride later, Flash and Mika arrive back at the hotel.
