Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

Mika moves closer to Flash.  "That sounds like the same Duros that was in my room, the female voice is probably the Bothan woman.  I don't want to cause the Duros any more grief, maybe you should go in and ask the Bothan over for a quiet word."

Flash nodded and wandered over, stared at the group then wandered back. No bothan there. Duros guy, Cathar girl and some big furry guy of a species I've never seen before.

Mika looks a bit annoyed.  Did you speak to the Duros?  I'm pretty sure he was with the woman."

Flash's annoyance matched Mika's.  "And say what exactly?  Oh hi, the 'Imperial' who tormented you at the party wants a friendly chat?  You asked me to speak to the Bothan, there wasn't one."

OOC:  Gotta love Flash's 8 Charisma, -1 in diplomacy and bluff!  He's much better at shooting things and flying things!

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

Mika takes a deep breath and keeps her irritation out of her voice.  After all, it wasn't Flash that had irritated her.  And he'd only got drug into the whole mess because she'd asked for his help.

"How about the angry human he saw earlier is regretful of her outburst and would like to make amends?  I don't know why he's so twitchy, but my just popping in and startling him isn't going to do anyone any good and if anyone around here can point us in the right direction, it's him."

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

Flash grunted.  "I'd guess he's twitchy because he's just escaped from Imperial occupation.  That changes you, but you wouldn't understand."  He doesn't add 'you're human' on the end but he probably doesn't need to.

He walks over and speaks to the trio quietly, pointing back towards Mika's position.

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

There is a short, quiet conversation that Mika can't hear. The woman - presumably the Cathar - doesn't sound happy. If anything she sounds ready to punch a hole in the fabric of space with her anger. A few words from the very deep-voiced male have her moderately calmed, though. After a little Flash reappears around the corner, followed not by the Duros but by the unknown species.

Mika has never seen a... whatever-he-is before, either. He's tall, tall enough that he has to stoop to avoid hitting his head against the ceiling. Two and a half metres tall? Three? It's hard to say. Way bigger than Flash, let alone Mika. He is broadly muscled and very hirsute - not furry like a Wookiee but hairy, with a neatly-trimmed beard and hair bound into braids that fall well past his shoulders. His eyes are a deep brown, edge-to-edge colour, the whites invisible - and while his face looks relatively human he has a bifurcated lip and four horns curling up from his brow. The are black, they look sharp. But when he smiles it's a comforting smile, warm and friendly, that makes him seem more cuddly than able to gore four holes in your torso with minimal effort. He is, very clearly, unarmed.

"Well," he says after a pause, "not an Imperial. But here you are. I felt it... safer for all concerned if I come to talk to you rather than Kyvarr. She is... Not very diplomatic. My name is Oruvenn, I work as a counsellor here. And you are..?"

Mika gives Oruvenn a respectful nod, "Greetings, and thanks.  I'm Kimy Stell and as you say, I am not an Imperial.  And if I may, who is Kyvarr?"

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

Kyvarr growled in her throat as Ovruvenn walked over to see the Imperial.  From what Fiarr had said, the human was dangerous and prone to violence.  She spoke quietly to the Duros.

She watched the human closely.  Any trouble and she'd deal with this trouble maker.  Her alcohol-induced headache was now strong enough to make her really cranky.  Perhaps the drinking contest with a wookie hadn't been such a good idea.  Still, the booze had been free and the Zeltron host had sure wanted people to enjoy themselves.  Until the trouble with the human, she'd certainly being doing that!

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

Oruvenn's smile widens, though it's perhaps a little strained.  "A Cathar.  Her story is hers to tell if she wishes to.  Just tread softly around her.  She is... tempestuous.  May I ask what you'd like to speak to Laide about?  Normally I wouldn't get involved but he's quite, er, fragile at the moment.  Had Kyvarr not been there he'd likely have run by now."  He doesn't comment on the confrontation between the Duros - presumably this 'Laide' - and Kimy... but he does watch her closely for any signs of aggression or threat.  He makes no pretence of doing anything else; he is sizing her up as a potential threat and he has no problems with her knowing it.

So far, however, he clearly hasn't noticed anything worrying about her.  So far so good.

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

Mika shrugs, the look of contrition on her face appearing genuine.  " I get the feeling you already know this, but I lost my temper earlier.  I was being a bit temptuous myself about it.  The Bothan that was with the Dur... Uh Laide, I think she might be able to help me find my missing credit chip.  And seeing this place, the conditions here...  I'm sorry."

Flash barely supressed a snort at the comments about this 'Kyvarr'.  The woman looked like she barely topped five foot and Flash couldn't see how she could be much of a threat.  Still, they didn't need trouble so he watched the Cathar, trying to discern if she had any weapons on her.

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

The tall non-human stares at Mika for a few long moments and then nods as if convinced of the genuineness of her apology.  Perhaps his species is telepathic, or maybe he's simply very good at reading people.  Possibly he's simply taking a chance.  "All right.  You've no need to apologise to me, however - and believe it or not, but of the dozen or so refuges about this part of the city we're not doing too badly."  He sighs, as if it's so close to a lie that he's uncomfortable, so he adds, "Comparatively speaking, anyway."  With a gesture of one large hand he waves the pair to follow as he ambles back over to the nervous Duros and his Cathar protector.

"Laide," he says as they near, "this woman's name is Kimy.  She has something to say."  Before anyone can speak, though, he raises a finger in warning to Kyvarr, a strong but lithe looking Cathar sitting near Laide.  Although well in control of her own temper she looks really angry.  If Cathar had tails hers would be fluffed up.

Kyvarr growled in her throat but made no other move.  She trusted Oruvenn and knew he was a good judge of character.  Though that did nothing to improve her mood, or her worsening headache.

Kimy moves a bit closer to Laide, moving cautiously and keeping a close eye in case her approach is too bothersome to the Duros.  In a soft voice, she says, "Hi Laide, I'm Kimy and I'm sorry that my losing my temper caused you such distress.    [Language unknown: "No n esha der ncre heinet itutinal e vir somillere ck Iveticany, no Pa p ar ncearetho ec ouhou Eltama."]

Kyvarr laughed then regretted it.  Her head pounded.   "Losing your temper didn't cause him distress human.  Threatening him with a bat for being in the wrong room did."

The Duros seemed about to say something to Mika before Kyvarr spoke up.  When the Cathar speaks, though, Laide falls silent.  He's clearly not used to speaking over anyone and the thought of standing up for himself is obviously beyond him.  Whatever self-esteem he had was beaten out of him years ago.

Mika gives the Cathar a nod.  "As you say, and my apologies for it."

Mika wasn't sure of the Cathar's involvement in this situation, but her presence didn't seem to be doing the Duros any good and the only thing she could think to help out was to not pester him further.

She moves back over to Oruvenn.  "I'd also like to speak to the Bothan woman who was with Laide, offer my apologies to her and ask after my missing credit chip."

"What did I tell you?  Apology indeed.  She's here because Fiarr pulled some Akari street justice on her.  Amazing what losing your credits does for an Imperial's mood."  Her voice was think with contempt.

Mika glances back over at the Cathar.  "If I were an Imperial, do you think I'd be here, unarmed and with no Imperial backup, in the company of a Duros, expressing my regrets and asking politely?"

"If you are smart, absolutely. The Empire has no jurisdiction here." came a voice behind Mika.

When the human turned she sees Fiarr standing close behind her, hands out to show she carried no weapons.

"However Oruvenn believes there is truth in your words and I respect his judgement.  So I'm willing to listen to you with an open mind."

Mika turns, a bit surprised at the Bothan's presence.  She gives a measured look, then sighs.  "I don't know much about Imperials, so I'll defer to you on that.  But I wanted to apologize for my earlier outburst.  I felt particularly bad about Laide, from what Little I've seen, he's been through a lot and I'm sorry that my losing my temper added to his trauma.  I don't know if you were serious about what you said or if it was just an excuse to get close enough to, well, you know, but I'm sorry about my outburst."

Re: Act 5.4.2 - A Refuge in Akari City

The counsellor holds a huge hand up for some silence. "Let us be fair. Kimy has a point. Even without taking Imperial backup into account a smart Imperial would not sully themselves with the presence of so many aliens who undoubtedly have anti-Human sentiment." The huge non-human shakes his head slightly. "You know the refuge's rules on stealing and fighting. Had it happened here..." He shrugs without adding the obvious statement about those actions' repercussions. "I am no law enforcer but I dislike the idea of these actions - whether you felt them justified or not - bringing trouble to the refuge. Did you steal from this human?"
