"Two, come through the building on the fourth floor. One enemy is somewhere on that floor, so caution adviced." Idaya wondered, how the enemy had managed to build the barricades so quickly, but there was no time to tarry.

Re: Combat (Rounds 31-35)

Time passed so very slowly, but there wasn’t really anything to do but wait. Forcing the enemy to wait was one strategy Dohr had been taught in the academy. Waiting was irritating at first and nerve wracking later. Nervousness people were prone to make mistakes and in combat situations such mistakes were often lethal.

There was no telling what the Red team’s tactic was. Maybe they planned to annihilate Blue ATs first and then storm the console room. With Kyvarr down, it started to seem Idaya’s teams didn’t have great chances of succeeding. Or perhaps the enemy attackers were simply taking their time coming up the stairs silently. Who knew, maybe they already were on the 10th floor, but moved too slowly and carefully for Dohr to hear. With that in mind, the Kel Dor concentrated on the sounds of the building, trying to recognise those that didn’t belong.

Re: Combat (Rounds 31-35)

Kyvarr 'Hammer' Dulvan:
Kyvarr growled in frustration and slumped to the ground, her repeater across her lap.  She continued to mutter and curse.  For a corpse, she was quite noisy.

Devon gave the talkative corpse a pat on the shoulder then grabbed Kyvars repeater and handed it over to Idaya.  That done he spent an industrious few moments grabbing every ammo pack Kyvarr had and passing them across to Idaya as well.

Once all the weapons had been reassigned, he settled down to watch the door leading into the fourth floor.  There was a hostile in there somewhere - perhaps Flash would flush them out as he came through.  If he did... Devon would fill them full of (simulated) holes.

Combat (Rounds 36-38)

Idaya pushed Devon forward, abandoning Kyvarr's gear.  The Chiss felt speed was their weapon and she planned to use it.  She fired off a set of bolts that caught the door millimetres from the female merc's head.  She reflexively ducked back.  The Talons continued their charge.  Suddenly the merc received reinforcements, a second merc rushed through the doorway and fell to one knee and began firing at the Talon's with his rifle.

Even at this the Talons did not slow.  Devon fired off a shot that caught the female mercenary in the head sensor moments before the rifle-wielding merc caught Devon in the chest.

"Players Blue Two and Red Five have been terminated."

Time seemed to slow for Idaya and the final merc.  Barely a metre was between them but neither balked.  The mercenary held his ground as Idaya contined to charge.  Both opened up at point blank range on each other, both scoring hits.

"Players Blue Four and Red Nine have been terminated."

Flash burst through the right stairwell door just as the second announcement came over.  He found a squash of bodies in the stairwell and a veritable armoury of weapons.

On defence, Mika and Dohr still waited patiently for the attack which had yet to come.

**GAME CLOCK - 7 minutes 36 seconds remaining**

OOC: Wow!  Three rounds of intense fire has seen four casualties!  Technically Idaya lost the initiative race with the merc who killed her but Idaya rolled TWO confirmed criticals so I figured that deserved a draw!

Looks like the Talons are down to three!  Dohr, it's all up to you.

Re: Combat (Rounds 36-38)

As his first victim fell, Devon was already swinging his repeater round toward the second enemy.  Had he had time to stop and think about it, he would have laid money on him not being able to get the shot off in time; and sure enough he felt a shot thud into his chest.

Stumbling backwards, Devon slid down the wall into a sitting position with his repeater across his knees.  As he fell he raised one hand in a simply but graphic gesture toward the merc who had killed him, then he settled back to wait with a sigh.

Re: Combat (Rounds 36-38)

The calls came in so quickly it made Dohr wonder what had happened. Apparently the ATs had met proper resistance after they charged over the barricades as was expected. The Doc was a bit surprised to hear that Rian and Idaya had been able to take out two Reds as well before getting shot themselves. He hadn't at any point doubted their skills, but the idea of climbing over a fence while the enemy is ready to ambush you, didn't sound too promising.

Six vs Seven. It could be worse or it could be better. We can still win this. With the Chiss down, Dohr was now in charge alone. Not that he had too many soldiers to command however. Kimy was in place watching the console and one of the entrances to the room that hosted it. There was little reason to change her OP. Dohr himself had a good view down the northern corridor as well as the one coming from the western stairwell from the room he was in . And even if he wouldn't notice the red assault team going into the console-room, he had only needed to run a few meters to get in there.

Therefore the Defense Team would stay put for now. It was Forim he was worried about. The Duros only had two opponents left, but he had no idea where they were and how good they were. Dohr could not afford to trust the man's abilities were enough to take both of the Reds down. He might be that good, but so might the enemy. "Two. You are on your own now." Dohr called in a hushed voice. He knew he was stating the obvious, but he really meant it. "It is best to maintain radio silence unless you are certain you cannot be overheard speaking. They probably have one defender on both stairwells. I would say your best chance is heading up the one your at right now before they have time to regroup. Good luck getting to the 10th floor and good hunting."

The former Kel Dorian Major could've ordered Flash to retreat and join him and Mika in defending their building. But he had a feeling the Duros would have preferred to attack. He was now alone and could and would have to make the decisions by himself. Something told Dohr Forim wouldn't hate the situation too much. Besides it would have taken the other man minutes to get back down on the ground floor, run across the strip and climb up the stairs to the tenth floor. That would just have made no sense to Dohr

The Chiss sat down on to the stairs, removing her helmet. Her tightly braided black hair was damp with the sweat from the exercise she had had while running up the stairs and her blue skin glistened in the artificial light. She gave a nod at the opponents, especially the one she had shot and who had reciprocally shot her.

Combat (Rounds 39-55)

Flash gave a quick acknowledgement and went silent.

Dohr and Mika waiting in frustrating silence for what feels forever but was likely little more then a minute.  Then they hear Flash muttering in his comm.  It didn't sound like he was talking to them, merely grumbling aloud and his voice-activated mike was picking it up.

"Locked dammit."

"Frag they're coming.  DIE BITCHES!  ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!"

There's a staccato of blaster fire from multiple sources erupts over the comm, then suddenly it goes silent.  A few moments later.

"Player Blue Five has been terminated."

Dohr and Mika were alone and outnumbered two to one.

Re: Combat (Rounds 39-55)

Forim had gone down as Dohr thought he would - in a flash - but with his head held up high and giving no quarter to the enemy. Now that he thought of it, the Doc had begun to like the Duros as well. The nameless mercenary group certainly showed potential and promise. Perhaps, despite the fairly obvious outcome of the game, he might have a common future with them after all. Or so the Kel Dorian hoped.

Seconds passed slowly, Kashyykian blue snail -slowly. But there wasn’t really anything he could do other than wait for the Red assault team to finally arrive… Or was there? Casting one more look down both corridors and listening as carefully as he could, Dohr was fairly sure no one was coming. Slowly and as quietly as he was able, the doctor inched towards the window of the room with his back against the wall. Once there, he lowered the E-11 on the floor and grabbed the sniper rifle once again. He only had one shot left, but it had to be enough right now. Making sure he didn’t turn into a big target in the window, Dohr raised the rifle and eyed down the strip through the scope. While his eyes were focused on the ground, his ears were still trying to notice anyone moving on the 10th floor.

Six minutes on the clock. There was still plenty of time for the Red reinforcements to arrive for the final assault.

<i>OOC: If someone’s sorry ass is trying to make it across the strip, he or she will feel the bite of the E-11s, after which Dohr will naturally drop out of sight.

Re: Combat (Rounds 56-70)

Not one to make the same mistake twice, Dohr nodded to himself as he saw three enemies exiting their building. This time he saw them coming. Knowing there were only two defenders left, the Reds would probably be fairly confident in crossing the strip. But as they clearly were either experienced or skilled or both, they probably would not linger too long out in the open. Still he hoped they would not expect him to be looking at them through the scope.

Keeping his eye on the three opponents, Dohr unloaded the power pack from the E-11s and put the weapon against the wall in the corner. He then picked up the regular version of the rifle and replaced its clip before putting it back down on the floor. He then carried on with very precise moves and loaded up the sniper rifle. The Kel Dor risked a quick look at the weapon making sure everything was ok and lifted the E-11s to the window again.

Meanwhile the Reds had gotten closer. When the leading enemy was halfway across, Dohr looked at him or her through the scope, inhaled and exhaled and with his rifle as steady as could be, squeezed the trigger. He knew he would be giving up his position should he stay in the window for too long. But Dohr couldn't risk letting the first Red reach the Blue building. He had to drop at least one to make it count.

Combat (Rounds 71-75)

Dohr does not rush himself.  Calmly he gets into a comfortable position and waits for the range to close by half.  Once the three mercs close to within one hundred metres, he fires at the lead mercenary.  His shot catches the merc in the shoulder but misses the sensors.  However it slows the mercenary enough that his second shot takes the mercenary dead centre of the chest.

"Player Red Two has been terminated."

Dohr only has a moment to relish his success before a blast flashes so close to his face it temporarily blinds him and burs his cheek.  However the sensors on his pack do not register a hit.  The Kel Dor quickly scopes out the enemy roof, where he's sure the sniper bolt came from but he can see no target.

The other two mercs had not slowed their stride, one snatching up the fallen merc's weapon as he ran.

Re: Combat (Rounds 71-75)

It was a very rare occasion when Dohr Veen enjoyed shooting someone down. Killing was something he was good at, but got no satisfaction out of. But this was a game and dropping another player of the opposing team made the Kel Dorian grin behind his mask. Feeling confident about himself, the doctor considered risking another shot in order to take out another Red from the game. But the enemy sniper was somewhere out there waiting for him. Even if he managed to hit another sensor, it would probably mean he'd be out and Kimy would be left in the game alone.

Keeping low Dohr grabbed the other rifle along and backed slowly away from the window. He was in no hurry. He now knew the enemy was not near the console room and he knew why the two Reds pursuing him had not yet appeared. Apparently someone had thought they would be needed defending their own building instead. And now one of those two was out.

But there were still two Reds attacking and the game was not yet won. ”Ten, there are no enemies in the building right now, but two are entering as I speak. The third one still left is the sniper. He or she is somewhere in the Red building. I am only guessing, but I think they will not both come up the western stairs as they know I am located at that end. So they will probably either split up or use the eastern stairwell instead. I am changing places to keep them guessing for a while longer. Stay sharp!”

Dohr moves to his new position in a room near the north east corridor while Mika remains in position on the roof.  A minute passes while they wait for the mercs to show.  Dohr listens intently but fails to hear when the mercs open the door to the eastern stairwell.  His first warning the mercs are on floor 10 is when one moves south down the easternmost passage and a second one holds position behind cover, covering to the north with his repeater.  The fact the merc hadn't sent a volley of fire Dohr's way suggested he hadn't spotted the Kel Dor yet.

Re: Combat (Rounds 76-85)

They are here. Somehow he missed them entering the floor, but it only confirmed his earlier thoughts. The guys were good. Really good. Had Dohr been 100% certain of which stairwell the Reds were going to use, he would've placed himself in a better position from which a total surprise attack would have been possible. But in that case he would not have been able to cover as much of the 10th floor as he now was. One advantage lost for another gained.

Unfortunately the enemy merc carrying a repeater beat him to it and was watching down the corridor along the thick barrel of his rifle. He hadn't noticed the Kel Dor yet, but there was little Dohr could do without giving up his location to the other man. Yet the Doc needed to warn Mika somehow. Slowly and quietly he moved his free hand to the comms unit and clicked the send button three times. He then waited for three seconds and repeated the clicks. Dohr could only hope that Kimy still remembered his earlier instructions of announcing spotted enemies in similar manner.

It was now up to the girl to prevent the second Red from entering their code to the Blue team's console. Dohr would not be able to stop him unless the repeater wielder was distracted or moved away from his guard spot. Shots from a blaster pistol should do the trick. Or so he hoped.

For the time being, Dohr waited quietly and ready to attack the enemy when the opportunity presented itself.

Mika was still laying on the roof, waiting for something to happen.  At this point, it was just her and Dohr and there were three of the other team.  She couldn't quite keep track of who was where, but that wasn't her job.  If anyone came to the console, she'd try to shoot them down but even if she succeeded, the best they could hope for was a tie, neither her nor Dohr would be getting to the other building and hitting the button in the time left.

Her musings are cut off as she hears the comlink click three times, then after a pause, another three times.  She wasn't sure, but with the sniper still on the far building, Dohr was probably telling her there were two reds in the building.  It'd be nice if they'd make their move and push ahead, this game had grown incredibly tiresome.  A doc and a grease monkey against a larger team of trained mercs just wasn't her idea of a fun shore leave experience.

Combat (Rounds 86-92)

As the merc in the cover position goes to move position Dohr makes his own move.  Unfortunately the merc sees the Kel Dor and dives back to cover, firing a volley from his repeater as he shouts "Contact!"

Dohr had not been idle either.  Unable to slow his forward momentum he had not tried.  He rushed for the corner he'd been intending to use as cover, firing as he went.  The move was bittersweet as the dreaded PA voice announced.

"Players Blue Seven and Red Three have been terminated."

The other merc didn't falter.  He'd also fired at Dohr ineffectually.  He quickly ensured the corner was clear, grabbed up all the free power packs and ran on.

In her position on the roof, Mika had heard of Dohr's demise, though he'd obviously managed to take one with him.  Still it let her outnumbered two-to-one.  She was considering her options when a volley of autofire began flying up through the skylight on an angle.  Someone was firing a repeater on full auto from out of her line of sight.  The goal was assumedly either to suppress her from stopping someone making a dash at the command console or possibly an attempt to get her with a lucky shot.

**GAME CLOCK - 2 minutes 18 seconds remaining**

OOC: And so falls Doctor Veen.  Everything hinges on one grease monkey!

Mika, the shots are coming up at a sharp angle and you'd assume they're being fired from the east doorway.  Odds of hitting you are very small (unless you hide on the west side of the skylight) but if you try to position yourself to retaliate chances of being hit rise dramatically!

OOC:  Mika, by his angle of fire and the noise he's standing by the command console now.  He's still shooting up through the hole.

Re: Combat (Rounds 93-94)

Mika takes a deep breath.  It seems like it's now or never and she was already living on borrowed time.

Pulling the power pack from the rifle, she throws the rifle to another part of the roof, hoping the sound of it hitting the roof will distract the merc, at least get him or her to shift her aim for a moment.  As soon as she notes a break in the merc firing or a change in aim, she'll take her chances with the pistol.

Combat (Rounds 95-97)

The fire didn't slacken in the slightest when Mika threw the rifle.  In fact over the din of the automatic fire it was hardly likely he even heard it.  His fire did die off however as his weapon ran out of ammunition several seconds later.  Immediately the merc ejected the magazine and began loading a new one.

Mika did not waste time.  She quickly shimmied forward and fired over the lip.  Her hasty snap shot however did not come even close to hitting the kneeling merc.  Mika began pulling her weapon to bear but the merc was faster and opened fire with a full autofire burst.  Mika was forced to roll sideways to avoid the burst as the fire shot through the hole, her own shot wasted.

Re: Combat (Rounds 95-97)

"Damn. Mika mutters quietly.  Now she's gone and confirmed her location without reaping any benefit from it, as if the odds weren't already staked heavily enough against her.

She juggles her choices mentally for a moment.  How fast could the other red get to the command center?  It'd be a close one, but she opts for being safe.  She takes the occasion shot, reaching blindly across to shoot while trying to keep her sensors out of the Mercs line of fire.

She glances around to see if there was other options for getting down off the roof.
