Re: Act 6.1b - Flight Simulator Sim (Blue Team)

Devon whistled in wonder as he watched the CR90s respond to One flights presence.
"Do they think we're in there too?" he wondered aloud.
"OK, we're going in.  One flight - keep them focussed on you and stay alive.  Two flight, break off to one side and line up an attack run.  Three flight, on me.  Stay on passive sensors for now."

Devon pulled the Y-wing round onto a heading for the nearest CR90, the one that had helpfully turned its guns away from them.  He checked his sensors to be sure the rest of Three Flight was still with him.
"One flight - gimmie a target lock on that CR90 that's showing me its ass.  Two flight, lock on to four different freighters and give us a distraction - fire a missile each on my signal.  Three Flight, get ready to fire double torpedoes on my signal."

Devon licked his suddenly dry lips as he waited for Flash to send the targeting data.

"On it Lead.  Okay Four.  Take Five and stick with the port freighters.  Light up that port corvette with a missile lock but hug the freighter for defense.  Don't waste your ammo, you're just their to confuse 'em.  I'm gonna light up the starboard one for the wishbones.  If things get hot, bug out fast and we'll regroup outside the corvette arc.  Clear"

Upon receiving confirmation, Flash banked hard to the right and slipped in atop a freighter.  He matched speed then lined up on the enemy corvette and attempted to get a missile lock.  Once he had it, he transmitted the data to Three Flight.

Mirroring Flash's move she banked left and tried to obtain a missile lock on the other corvette while hugging the freighter close.

Re: Act 6.1b - Flight Simulator Sim (Blue Team)

The flight pairs seperated and honed in on their respective targets.  The freighters had begun to try and flee outside the target cone of the corvettes but their movements were slow and disorganised.

Waiting at the head of Three Flight Devon waited while Flash got into position.  Suddenly targeting data came up on his screen as did Flash's ship.  The Duros had given Devon a target lock but had exposed himself on sensors to do so.  He also noted Fiarr was now visible as she faked a missile launch on the port corvette.

Further to port, Two Flight led by Sheila was now popping up on Devon's screens as they took missile locks on the freighters.

All was in preperation.  The bomb was set.  All that was needed was someone to light the fuse.

Re: Act 6.1b - Flight Simulator Sim (Blue Team)

Devon grinned at the targeting data that was coming in, he wasnt sure why he had wondered IF Flash would be able to get the lock for him.  After a very brief mental debate, he decided they may as well go for the throat and see if they could score an early kill.

"Change of plan.  On my signal: Two Flight, Three Flight - everyone gimmie double shotted torpedoes or missiles at that Corvette nearest us - One Flight is providing targeting data.  We're going for the kill.  Once you've fired change position and continue to close."

Devon gave the others a moment to set up for the shot.
"Ready - on my mark.  Three, two, one, Fire."
Devon pulled the trigger, sending two torpedoes streaking in toward their unfortunate target, then hauled the Y-wing through a sharp turn and put several kilometers between Three Flight and the position they had fired from before he turned back towards the convoy.

Re: Act 6.1b - Flight Simulator Sim (Blue Team)

Almost as one the four Y-wings of Three Flight fire their torpedos, all slaved to Flash's targeting data.  A moment later Devon's sensors register Two Flight as they launch their missiles at the same target.  The 16 warheads came in on two separate vectors.  Given their relative distances, the missiles would hit the corvette nearly 10 seconds before the torpedos.  If the corvette failed to turn the missiles would likely hit the port shields and the torpedos the rear.

The teams had no time to sit and watch the projectiles for out of nowhere the corvette to port let out a single active pulse.  The move was risky but it was likely that the enemy now had a better fix on One Flight and possibly Two and Three flight, depending on the skill of their sensor operator.

OOC:  At present speed missiles will hit starboard corvette in 2 rounds, torps in 3 rounds.

Fiarr winced as the corvette's sensors temporarily went active.  She reflexively pulled her ship a little closer to the freighter but determinedly kept her lock on the corvette she'd been assigned.

Re: Act 6.1b - Flight Simulator Sim (Blue Team)

"One Flight, drop those locks.  Make a nuisance of yourselves, but stay alive - One, you have lead of your flight."
Devon quickly ordered.  So far the Corvettes seemed to be totally focussed on One Flight... he hoped Flash could get rowdy enough to keep them that way.

"Two flight, Three flight - prepare to fire another barrage.  I'll provide the targeting data."
Switching to active sensors, Devon set his targeting computer to finding a firing solution for the corvette on the opposite flank.
"Stand by... stand by... on my mark - three, two, one, fire."

There. He told himself.  Now there are two warhead barrages for the enemy to worry about... and they were STILL not responding to the first. Devon frowned, why would I ignore that amount of incoming ordnance?  Those CR90s aren't THAT tough...
He shook his head to clear it.
"Two and Three flights - go dark, reposition and close in." Devon pulled his Y-Wing through another series of turns.
"Capture Flight - stay hidden and close in.  If you see a chance to safely board a freighter, take it.  We'll try to disable them for you."

Sheila fired at the other corvette as ordered, them went dark with her flight and closed in on the corvette by sight with three flight, preparing her torpedo for another round.   6 corvettes??!!, they needed better intel.  Would it really be this lopsided?  She thought about it a moment, then decided, yeah, Devon just might do that to some of them.

She danced carefully toward the other ship, waiting for orders.

Blue Team (Round 4&5)

The Corvettes finally began engaging in anti-missile fire and an amazing shot from the port corvette's starboard battery managed to hit one pair of missiles before they hit the starboard corvette.  The remaining six missiles smashed into the port shield, almost breaking through.  If all 8 had hit it might have been enough to collapse them entirely!  Still the torpedo volley was only seconds from hitting and should cause serious damage.  The turbolaser fire had failed to connect so far.

Both Two and Three Flight continued to close.  On Devon's order the flights released their second torpedo and missile volley, this time at the port corvette.  The sixteen projectiles flew away but not all was positive.  The need to go active to fire the missiles and the closing range of the corvettes had exposed the fighters.  There was little doubt Red Team sensors were now tracking them.  They were also in turbolaser range.

Only One Flight was relatively safe.  The three corvettes had turned to face each other and overlap fire within their fire arc.  However One Flight had escaped that arc by staying close to the freighters fleeing outwards.  Clearly the gunners wouldn't risk hitting a freindly.

OOC:  I have tried to help explain the situation by providing grid co-ordinates for everyone.  Stick them onto a map (or I find an excel file works well) and maybe it will help people see where things are.

The three corvettes are now stationary, all pointing towards each other.  The freighters have just fled the zone but the four fighters have fled with them!  The freighters continue to flee outwards.  One flight continues to hug the freighters

All of Blue squadron are in turbolaser range.

Re: Blue Team (Round 4&5)

For a moment Devon watched the spreading fireball of the first barrage impacting, then focussed on the mission.

"OK - one last barrage, then we break and attack."  Lining up his Y-wing for the attack run, Devon began transmitting targetting data to his wingmen.
"We're going after the final CR90 - and I want everyone firing this time, I want all those missiles hitting at the same time if we can swing it.  Fire on my mark."

As the corvette formation began to grow larger ahead of him, Devon tried not to feel nervous - those Corvettes would surely open up with their monster guns any second now...

With his computer signalling a good lock on his computer, Devon called the shot.
"Everyone in position?  Three, two, one, FIRE."
With the torpedoes streaking out ahead of his ship, the shipjacker prepared to jink as best the Y-wing could when the corvettes began firing.  Now he'd find out if the Y-wings toughness made up for its lack of manoeuvrability...

"Acknowledged Lead.  Four, start circling behind Red 3 and we'll try to hook up.  As soon as the other two groups link up and fire we'll fire for the ship's rear.  Do this even if we haven't regrouped."

Before following his own advice Flash switched to ion cannons and stitched his freighter from stern to bow in ion fire.  Then he punched up full speed and moved to join Fiarr.  He was tempted to take a shot at one of the other nearby freighters but that could come after he launched his missiles.  Blowing up Corvettes seemed way more fun then blowing up unarmed and unshielded freighters.

"Got it Lead.  On my way."

After ordering her wingman not to shoot until commanded, Fiarr took the liberty to open up with her blasters.  She didn't aim to hit the freighter, merely to have her blasters shoot close by the bridge.  The freighters seemed to panic when the fighters first attacked so why not try to stir up a little more?

She only made one pass then moved to the designated position juinking to avoid any incoming fire.  She switched to missiles and waited for Flash's order to fire.

Blue Team (Round 6&7)

The ships of Two and Three Flights moved into position for their attack run on Red 3, the corvette on point.  As they dodged turbolaser fire they watched as the torpedo volley smashed into Red 2 causing significant damage to the hull and several key systems.  Red 1 faired better as it's shields held against the missile support but failed against the torpedo barrage.  Despite strong anti-missile fire, several torpedos still struck, causing moderate hull damage but damaging no key systems.

Meanwhile One Flight had been having a little fun with the freighters.  Flash disabled one, while Fiarr shot across the bow of another before the pair regrouped behind Red 3.  All three flights were in position to shoot against the undamaged corvette.  The only problem was now all 12 ships were in range of numerous sets of guns on the various capital ships.  Even on passive sensors they were still visible.

OOC: Assumedly in Round 8 everyone will fire torps and missiles as Devon ordered but what then?  You're in the middle of a turbolaser storm and eventually someone is going to start hitting!  You're a lot squishier then they are!

Switching to an open channel and dialing down the transmission strength so it would hopefully not be heard by any passing Imperials, Devon tried to sound authorative.
"Attention freighters - we are reclaiming illegally seized cargo.  Stop your engines and prepare to be boarded.  Your safety is assured if you follow orders.  If you do not comply, we will disable you and take your ships by force.  I repeat - You will not be harmed if you obey.  Any freighter still moving under its own power in 30 seconds will be assumed to be hostile."

Blue Team (Round 8)

The three respective flights regrouped with each other and converged on the sole corvette still undamaged.  Devon was determined to change that.  The groups close to within two kilometres, a move that seemed crazy with turbolaser death flying all around, but the squadron managed it with only two hits.  Blue 4 and 7 both took hits.  Both lost shields, one took some hull damage but neither took serious damage.

On Devon's fire command a little under two dozen missiles and torpedoes flew at the corvette.  The ship had no time to maneuver, provide anti-missile fire or even angle shields.  The warheads plummeted into the capital ship.  Those that missed exploded from the proximity detonations and added their fire to the maelstrom.

The explosion was so massive, everyone's glare compensators engaged on their helmets.  When it passed everyone saw that Red 3 had winked off their sensors as a threat.  The corvette was still there, being too big to vapourise, but it was now a mass of useless metal.  Blue Team had scored it's first 'kill'.  However there was now a problem.  Only three Z-95's still had missiles and they Y-wings had two torps each.  Blue Team had lost most of it's sting.  This could be a problem, especially as Red 1 was rapidly regaining shield strength.

As whoops went out on the comm, Devon delivered his message on an open channel ordering the freighters to stand down.  As expected there was no immediate response.  However the freighters had all changed direction and were converging on the disabled freighter.  Wether it was compliance with Devon's order or some strategy of the Red Team, nobody could say.

OOC:  Red 3 is down.  Nice work.  Bet Red Team isn't too happy right now!  On the flip side you're almost out of missiles.  Reds 2-4 have 4 missiles each.  The Y-wings have 2 torpedoes each.  Everyone else is guns only.  Red 2 has no shield generators but Red 1 is fully functional and regaining shields fast.

"Hey Four.  If the freighters don't play ball in thirty you take Three and Five and keep up the harrassment while I disable some civvies.  For now, lets blow up Red 2 and show the wishbones how it's done."

"Understood one.  Following you in.  Three, Five, set missiles for single fire and fire one only.  I repeat one missile each.  Let's not waste our shots.  I think we'll need them.  Five, no heroics.  Fire your missile else use the rest of us as cover and get your shields back up."

She followed Flash towards Red 2 and fired a missile when he did.  If there was the opportunity she fired her blaster as well.  She kept her last 3 missiles.  She figured she'd either need them for Red 1 or for any Imperials who showed up.

Devon found himself cheering along with everyone else at the fireball that used to be an enemy vessel, then forced himself to calm down - he was supposed to be in charge of this, after all.
"Sounds good, Eleven." he said in response to Kyvarrs suggesting. He was quietly gratified to see the Cathar showing some initiative in what must be the very unfamiliar environment of a space battle.  His hunch had been right - the cat had the making of a good fighter pilot.
"Lead us in, I've got your back.  Suggest a torpedo barrage."

Re: Blue Team (Round 8)

Kyvarr was surprised at Devon's instruction she lead the attack.  She assumed this was some kind of test.  It didn't bother her, this whole sim was a test.  Besides, getting first shot at the corvette appealed to her predatory instinct.

"Understood lead.  Three flight, we go in hard.  Prepare to fire dual torpedoes on my mark."

She lined up on the corvette, waited for acknowledgement for the flight, obtained a target lock then growled "Fire!"

If there was time for a second barrage she would order it.  Else once they were past the corvette she called out.

"Lead break port and loop around to attack.  I'll do same to starboard.  Gunners will have to choose between us then.  Stick with guns until we see what damage our torpedoes did."

If Devon resumes command of the flight she immediately obeys and follow his orders.  Else she continues with the split.  The forward guns seemed to be the threat and they couldn't follow them all if they seperated.  They could always come together again for their final torpedo volley.

Blue Team (Round 9-10)

The corvettes seemed to ignore Devon's call for surrender.  The freighters continued to converge on their disabled colleague while the corvettes continued to fire at the Y-wings.

While Two Flight flew around Red 2 offering a distraction, One Flight took a more direct assault.  Fiarr led the three Z-95's in and launched one missile each.  Smooth, precise, textbook.

Flash meanwhile was anything but.  Rushing in ahead of the missiles he howled like a banshee as he flew at top speed, skimming the ship at less than fifty metres.  He fired continues laser bolts, stitching the ship from bow to stern in laser fire.  Moments later the missiles joined the assualt, reducing the Corvette to a hunk of metal in the blink of an eye.  Flash barely outrun the fireball, screamining in triumph all the way.

Three Flight had barrelled in at Red 1, ignoring the incoming fire.  As one they launched eight more torpedos at the corvette.  This time however, the torpedoes missed and flew under the corvette.  Wether it was a faulty guidance system, the jinking of the corvette or just plain bad luck, nobody new.  Fortunately though the torpedoes retained their guidance lock and began circling back towards the capital ship.

The Y-wings then split and raked the corvette with laser fire as they broke off.  Kyvarr and her wingman sent a flurry of bolts into the corvette but with Devon's pair the giving was in the opposite direction.  A turbolaser blast caught Devon in the aft flank and rocked his craft.  Fortunately the Y-wing was built tough and the shields absorbed the shot, causing only minor scoring on the hull.  However it wouldn't pay to get hit again.

Devon cursed but realised that wasn't his only problem.  With the torpedoes not hitting, the corvette was regaining shield power fast.  Even with Kyvarr's laser barrage, Red 1 was already back up to nearly 50%.  They needed to get her shields down before she recovered.

OOC:  And Red 2 bites the dust!  Only 1 remains.  Devon took a hit but no system damage.  The torpedo volley missed!  The first miss of the sim (the dice roller didn't like you) but the missiles still have 4 rounds of fuel left.
