Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

Having precured the meds from Londinium all onboard Destiny have been vaccinated.  The recovering crew took refuge on the Gypsy planet Paquin where they buried the two children, Sephone and Tate, who were lost on their last mission.  Now that everyone is back on their feet Destiny is looking for work once more, while trying to avoid a very angry Cortez, Alliance patrols, and Bosik's men.

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

After getting their ship back the crew of Destiny began to pick up the pieces that Kyron had shattered.  Against most of the crews wishes Kyron was kept alive - although no official plans had yet been made for what to do with him when it became apparent that Wei-Li was falling into critical condition. Destiny needed medical help and fast.  They made way for the nearest planet at the time - Orisis.

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

After the fire fight at the Grand Yacht Party Kale worked out an arrangement with the Caddigan's.  Conveniently, the crews good friend Kyron Bates footed the bill with his bank card that he accidently dropped during his hijack attempt and which Wei-Li luckily found.  So finally the crew returned home ... back to Destiny.  Although slightly worse for wear.

They had been out in the black for a few days when Kale recieved a wave from his good friend and old professor, Walton Squires.  It was a pleasant surprise to recieve an invitation to his home on Regina and also to hear that he had a job for them ...

[From the Cargo Bay two members of the Hand enter]

The men moved silently into the engine room, now the hum of the engines masked whatever little sound they made.  The first man - the taller of the two - made a motion with his hand and stayed by the door, the other knealt down beside the engine.  A silver device seemed to appear in his hands out of nowhere.  His fingers worked deftly, he knew exactly what he was doing.  He pulled a few choice wires out and quickly cut them cleanly in two, then began working on rewiring them.  Destiny would be going no where.

"We got company." the tall man said, from his spot by the door he saw two people enter the cargo bay and make their way towards them.

"Hold them off, I'm almost done here." the other murmured.  The tall man nodded and slipped the barrel of his gun out the opening and fired, it was more of a warning shot then anything.

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

[Kyoko entering through vents from Cargo Bay]

The air inside the duct is warm and musty, a soft wind ruffles Kyoko's clothing and brushes her hair against her face.  The duct is easy enough to navigate through due to the slits opening up into the cargo bay, carrying the recycled air throughout the ship.  Eventually she comes to a slit that shows the engine room instead of the catwalk of the cargo bay.  From her vantage point she can see the top of a man's head, his fingers working busily at the engine with practices ease.  He's working quickly however and Kyoko can tell he knows he doesn't have much time.

It's going to be a great deal harder to climb out of the vent then it was to get in, there's no room to turn around and barely enough room to get any kind of grip on the vent covering and lift it out of place in order to climb down ... and even then she'd have to go down head first ...

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

Kyoko's first shot just crashes against the wall, the second however grazes the mans gun hand, causing his weapon to fall from his grasp and spin across the floor away from both Kyoko and himself.  For a moment it appears that Kyoko will most definitly have the upper hand, but as she tries to quickly find cover her foot catches on a loose wire, no time to think as she finds herself sprawling forward, curling up to execute a messy dive.  This does land her out of firing range (not that the man has a gun anymore) but it also sends her gun skidding underneath the engine and out of reach.

The man has posititioned himself behind the engine and is quickly trying to nurse his wound.  Kyoko is now behind a few crates full of spare parts.

The man peered around the edge of the engine and caught a glint of Kyoko's blade.  So that's how they were going to play, he thought.  His eyes quickly scanned his surroundings for something to use as a weapon.  His eyes fell on a heavy pipe - he wasn't entirely sure what it was for and it was definitly no sword ... but it would do.  With it in hand he spun around the corner, keeping the huge pipe held in front of him.

"Not a chance." he said and took a swing at Kyoko.  His weapon was clumsier but sturdy and he could weild it with far more force, however his moves were slower.

Kyoko successfully blocks the mans swing, side-stepping the blow and causing the two of them to rotate slightly counter-clockwise - sizing each other up.  The man scoffed, he had no doubt in his mind that he would easily over power this woman - she couldn't be more then half his size.  A low laugh escaped his throat, "This should be fun." he said, and lunged again, this time coming from overhead and coming down much quicker, having become a little more familiar with the weight of his chosen weapon.

Kyoko's attacker spins to the side as she sidesteps his blow and let's out a small grunt as her blade cuts a clean, but shallow cut to his upper right arm, he hardly pauses though as he shoots a leg out as he spins, knocking Kyoko's feet out from under her, causing her to fall to the ground, he immediately follows this up with a over hand swing meant to come down on Kyoko's head.

Charlie stepped into the second engine room, her wrench still at her side as she slid open the door, looking back over her shoulder where Ren had taken off.  She hoped that they were all gone...the only kind of assault she didn't mind was the one where she didn't have to see any of it, and could simply go about her life as if it didn't happen.  After all, she was just going to fix an engine.  All parts broke eventually...it was nothing out of the ordinary.

At least, it was until Charlie saw the body on the floor.  She closed her eyes, trying to wash the image out of her mind.  There was blood on the floor, and his lifeless eyes stared up into nothingness.  Charlie had only seen a few bodies before (all while on this ship), and each one stayed with her...and now there was another she'd have to lay up at night thinking about, wondering what they did to deserve to die.

"Ah, Kyoko..."  Charlie spoke, her back against the wall, motioning towards the body with the wrench.  "Can ya'...y'know, cover that'r somethin'?"

"Ah don't...don'tell me, ah'm not wantin' t'know.  S'better not knowin'."  Charlie shook her head, peeking an eye open to make sure he was covered.  She tried to get over it, but he was right there.  She swallowed and stepped to the engine, putting her back to the man right away as she began to look over the components, letting out a slow breath.  The fuel lines were still intact, the electrical outputs were still collected to the navigational manifold...most of it looked intact.

She lowered herself down to look at the bottom of the engine, getting on her knees as she reached under the large machine and felt around.  There was nothing wrong, maybe the jump had happened before they...there it is.  Charlie's fingers touched the cold steel of something that wasn't part of the engine, and she didn't have to get a good look to know what it was.  She let out a sigh, sliding onto her back and getting more under the engine, this new development taking the dead man off her mind.

"Gorram."  She muttered, trying to get her fingers around the edges of the silver box to see how it was attatched.  Were they to start up the engine with it attatched, it would begin to burn the fuel in both directions, causing the engine to seize or the fuel cells to explode.  Either one would render Destiny grounded with several thousand in repairs needed.  "Tell Ren, he's gotta shut th'whole thing down.  Everythin, even life support's gotta go dark...can't be givin' this chance t'be flarin' up an'destroyin' everythin' that's got us goin'..."

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

Charlie had rummaged through the tools left in the second engine room, pulling out what she needed along with a large candle.  There were flashlights on the extra shuttle, but all the ones on the ship linked back to the core, and would be rendered useless once everything went dark.  She managed to find the matches, lighting the candle just before the entire ship went dark.

With a mutter under her breath, she stepped carefully around the corpse to the engine, setting the candle on the ground and sliding underneath the engine, letting out a slow sigh as she placed the clips on all of the outgoing fuel and oil lines.  If one thing caused this engine to go live...best-case scenario, the engine seizes and becomes a giant rock.  Worst-case scenario, the entire ship would become much lighter after the fire and the several explosions that would follow suit...

"Coulja get that...th'body outta here, or go'n get Bear t'do it?"  She spoke through gritted teeth, trying to turn the screw with the tips of her finger.  "I'm...sittin' under a ton'f movin' parts, an'the room smells like blood.  Ah'm...ah can't do it."

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

Ren nodded to Acacia, "Yeah, I've got her." Ren answered and he collected her body and picked her up as gingerly and carefully as he could. "I take it we're going to the infirmary then." Ren answered holding Kyoko's body, waiting for Acacia to lead the way and open the doors.

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

"Yeah, straight to the infirmary...we'll get her looked at in a minute.  You're gonna need help getting rid of these corpses, and Charlie...she looked a little uncomfortable being around these types of things."  She crouched down next to the tarp-covered body, lifting the edge to see what had happened...how unsightly.  "You just take her, set her down at a table and come back.  They're just ribs, they'll take weeks to heal regardless of whether I work on them right away or not...this is more pressing right now."

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

Ren nodded at Acacia, he couldn't help the small smile that hit the corners of his lips - even in the midst of disaster like this he still couldn't help but admire her.  She was so cute when being all professional.  He looked at Kyoko then though and his smile vanished.  He held her gingerly, trying to be as careful as possible.  Kyoko shouldn't have had to fight that man - and now she was hurt.  Even when Ren tried to take action he couldn't protect everyone ... let's face it - he just wasn't cut out for that line of work.

Kale, Rhaef, Geoff ... leave the shooting to them.  After this Ren just wanted to lock himself up in the cockpit and never come out.

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

Acacia sighed a bit, biting the inside of her cheek...a stab wound to the stomach, that was the obvious wound.  It wasn't a pretty way to go, and it was most likely painful.  Hopefully he had been wicked enough to deserve it.  After a moment, she rolled the body over once, allowing it to become more tangled in the tarp to make it easier to carry out.  There would be blood, and while she wasn't accustomed to having to dispose of bodies in such a manner, everything be damned if she's going to let something like this ruin her life with Ren...

[From Destiny: Cargo Bay]

Ren entered the engine room to see Acacia fixing the tarp over the body, "Acacia, get away from him ... ya don' ... ya don' need ta be seein' that..." he immediately felt stupid for saying it.  Acacia was a doctor - it wasn't like she hadn't seen a dead man before.  For some reason it hurt him though that she had to see that.  He moved the tarp to completely cover the body - he didnt' want to see it either.

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

"Babe, don't be so squeamish about it...it's nature.  I'm gonna look like that one day...so are you."  She stood back up, getting on her toes to give Ren a kiss on the cheek.  "That's why I have to love you so much, it's all about the time we have until then.  It's why I won't let a day go by without telling you I love you."  She smiled, stepping to one side of the tarp and picking up the edges, looking back at him.

"Now let's get this thing out of here before the others come back."

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

Ren laughed half heartedly, shaking his head, feeling more then a little stupid, "Right, right, I know.  We all live an' die, yeah?" he looked at Acacia's beautiful face then, "Yer not ever gonna look like that though ... too manly." he joked.  But inside he still felt ... something.  Something he couldn't quite name.  All he knew is that he loved this woman before him and he never wanted her to hurt.  Not ever.

"I love you, bao bei.  I love you, I love you, I love you." he kissed her once between each sentence.  On her forehead, her nose, her lips.  Then picked up his end of the tarp.  "Let's get him out of here."

"Stop being such a flirt, hun."  She smirked, following him out as they lifted the body.

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

Charlie stepped into Engine Room 2, ignoring the spot of blood that has collected on the floor as she reached into the engine, trying to find the forward thrust manifold to attatch it back to the straight drive.  She'd left it unattatched after she fixed the engine to give a chance for the toxins to drain out of the pipes, had any gotten in...but they didn't have the liberty of time until they were out of atmo, at which point she would give them the chance to drip out the excesses.  She finally felt the pieces connect, and with a tug to make sure they weren't going to come detatched, she stepped up to the intercomm.

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

After successfully delivering the stamp to the Professor and despite the loss of their first mate, the crew of Destiny headed back into the black.  Back to work.  A few jobs later has left them with a crate from Xiaygin to be delivered to Torrance Station.  They've just docked at the space station located on the rim.

Its now been almost a month since the museum job and Rhaef leaving - the wounds are healing but they haven't been forgotten yet.

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

After their daring escape from Torrance Station the crew of Destiny was left broken and beaten ... and one crew member short.  The mourning had just begun for the crew but they had to press on.  They dropped the young boy which Kale, Geoff, and Wei-Li had saved off with his father and then turned to Paquin for Ren's funeral.  It was a short trip that left all of them with heavy hearts but Ren's death had effected no one as hard as Acacia.  So two weeks later found the crew of Destiny on Osiris saying goodbye to their doctor.

And although he was millions of miles away, as Destiny and her crew suffered ... so did Rhaef ...

Re: Destiny- Engine Room 2

The crew of Destiny has finally managed to get itself back on its feet.  After a trying past few months things are starting to go back to normal.  The absence of Ren and Acacia is still felt but the ships newest members have begun to find a home on board the old freighter.  Most relationships have been mended and although there are still some unanswered questions between members of the crew life has been peaceful.

However, after a few months of excitement and trials the crew has discovered that the cash flow has come to a sputtering halt.  The crew needs a job and soon.  First rule of the black is to keep flying.  Fortunately, one of Kale's contacts managed to put him in touch with the infamous Sin Twins.  The girls are probably the most ... unpredictable of contacts, one can never be quite certain what they're getting into when dealing with them.  But one thing is for certain, the pay-out is always good.  The crew has set up a meeting with the twins in a casino on Santo to get more details about the possible job.
