Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

Rhaef steps into his room, sealing the door behind him, he stoops low and sweeps his eyes under the bed, opens the locker, closes it, then moves to the small private head.  oInside he peers into the shower stall and under the sink before picking up his toothbrush rinsing it and working it across his teeth.

When he has finished, he flushes water over his face and dabs it dry with a towel.

Moving back to the main room, he reopens the locker and removes a small, black leather-bound journal from under the shelf, and removes the tape which had been securing it.  Retrieving a pen, he sits upon the meager bed and opens the tome.  Flipping through approximately two-thirds of the journal he finds a blank page and begins writing.

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

Rhaef closes the leather bound cover of the journal and wraps the band around it.  Standing up with a slight groan he stretches his back and moves back to the locker where he replaces the journal under the shelf, securing it with tape.

After closing the door, the first mate walks into the head and empties his bladder.  Slowly exhaling as the liquid waste flows from his body, he allows the tension to flow from him as well, he had been holding that longer than he should, both actually.

Securing his belt, Rhaef exits his quarters, and moves through the vessel to stretch his legs.

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

With is feet hooked over two supports on the ceiling to his room, Rhaef hangs upside down in nothing but his underpants while his hands nearly touch the floor as they drape over his head.

Upon the Captain's knock, the first mate looks to the door, pondering for a quick moment if he could ignore the call for a bit more, but decides he can put off his duty no longer and swings up, grabbing the support beam and unhooks his feet.  Pulling himself up he slowly sways his lower body downward, releasing himself he twists in the air and lands in a crouch.  Leaning from one side to the next, the man tests the flexibility of his back before moving to the locker to begin getting dressed.  Tucking the shirt into the pants, Rhaef secures the buckles and ties of his outfit and reaches back into the locker to retrieve the black bag inside.  Rummaging through its various contents he produces two objects.  The first is a dagger which he secures to a sheath that is strapped upon his right forearm.  The second is wrapped in a black silken cloth which he slips into the inside breast pocket of his charcoal colored trench before donning it, closing the locker door, and exiting his room.

Rhaef stirred from his bunk.  There seemed to be an awful lot of comm chatter going on.  He thought maybe he should go up to the bridge or somewhere, and find the captain and see what he could do.

Having precured the meds from Londinium all onboard Destiny have been vaccinated.  The recovering crew took refuge on the Gypsy planet Paquin where they buried the two children, Sephone and Tate, who were lost on their last mission.  Now that everyone is back on their feet Destiny is looking for work once more, while trying to avoid a very angry Cortez, Alliance patrols, and Bosik's men.

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

Rhaef stood up and streched his shoulders and knees popping back into joint. He walked around his room, and went through the morning ritual of preparing for work. A quick pass of his hand over his face, indicated that he could go another day with out a shave. He reached for a clean shirt and pulled it on, pulling his suspenders over it, and attaching his gun to his hip. A quick splash of water helped tame his unruly hair. Ready, Rhaef made his way to the mess hall to see what the Captain had in mind for the day.

Rhaef slept through take off, and was coming to later that morning. The climbing around the rigging had taken more out of him than he expected. He got cleaned up, and took the time to shave and wandered down to the mess hall.

OOC - Guys been gone all weekend and am sufficiently fried - so I probably won't be posting much more today - will get reintegrated into the action tomorrow.

After getting their ship back the crew of Destiny began to pick up the pieces that Kyron had shattered.  Against most of the crews wishes Kyron was kept alive - although no official plans had yet been made for what to do with him when it became apparent that Wei-Li was falling into critical condition. Destiny needed medical help and fast.  They made way for the nearest planet at the time - Orisis.

After the fire fight at the Grand Yacht Party Kale worked out an arrangement with the Caddigan's.  Conveniently, the crews good friend Kyron Bates footed the bill with his bank card that he accidently dropped during his hijack attempt and which Wei-Li luckily found.  So finally the crew returned home ... back to Destiny.  Although slightly worse for wear.

They had been out in the black for a few days when Kale recieved a wave from his good friend and old professor, Walton Squires.  It was a pleasant surprise to recieve an invitation to his home on Regina and also to hear that he had a job for them ...

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

Since the events on Orsiris, and their aftermath, Rhaef had basically stayed to the bridge, cargo bay and his quarters. In the days after they left Osiris, it appeared to him that for Charlie the events after the Yacht party were fueled by the alcohol and emotion, and it appeared to him that he had made of fool of himself. Although, he was not unable to work with Charlie when it was required, their interactions had become stilted and awkward. And despite everything else, his pride, or quite possibly his fear of rejection, kept him from finding out more.

Unlike the old days, he had not started drinking. He had seen the monster, he was on Osiris, and events from those days still haunted his dreams, and he was not about to voluntarily let the monster out. So instead, he became somewhat more withdrawn, focusing on doing his job and performing his responsibilities to the ship and crew. He hoped that his demeanor had not washed over into surliness with the rest of the crew, but he could not be completely certain.

As the announcement came over that they were about an hour from Regina, he stubbed out another cigarette in an overflowing ashtray, and closed his eyes, hoping to get some dreamless sleep for once, before they reached planetside.

After successfully delivering the stamp to the Professor and despite the loss of their first mate, the crew of Destiny headed back into the black.  Back to work.  A few jobs later has left them with a crate from Xiaygin to be delivered to Torrance Station.  They've just docked at the space station located on the rim.

Its now been almost a month since the museum job and Rhaef leaving - the wounds are healing but they haven't been forgotten yet.

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

[From Destiny: Geoff's Bunk]

Kale just stood there for a moment in front of Rhaef's door, he felt stupid but it was as though he had to build up the courage to walk in there.  He was more afraid of facing that room, those feelings then he was of the Reavers banging down the cargo bay door.  So he pushed it open quickly - like ripping off a bandaid, you do it fast.  He stepped inside ... the room looked exactly the same.  Rhaef had left most of his belongings behind. Kale could pick out a few missing items but over all ... the blanket was still folded neatly at the edge of his bed, he'd even left his spare pair of boots just sitting there like any moment their owner would appear and slip them back on.  Kale knew why he was there, to find the bottles of alcohol, but he found that he couldn't move.  He was just frozen in the center of the room.  He felt like part of the furniture.  Like he was just one more item sitting there, waiting expectantly for the owner of the room to walk through the door.

He closed his eyes and swore he could hear the sound of Rhaef's boots coming down the hall outside the door.  He turned around - but there was no one.  Rhaef wasn't coming back ...

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

Rhaef had been helping Charlie move some parts for the engine, and was ready for a smoke, a drink and clean shirt, and probably in that order. He wondered what the Captain was planning now. He knew the kid that Kale'd hired was a better pilot than he was, and to be honest, if Kale cut him loose he could not blame him. Kale'd been more than kind to him since he'd been on the ship.

He rounded the corridor and saw Kale standing in his room, looking around, "Sorry, Cap'n, you lookin' for me?"

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

Kale looked up, startled, "Ah, there ya are." he said as Rhaef walked into the room.  He was covered in grease - he'd obviously been helping Charlie out with one thing or another and looked a bit beat, "Why don' ya pull up a chair?" Kale said, which he immediately realized was kinda a dumb thing to say considering they were in Rhaef's bunk but Kale was excited to tell him the news.  He was aware that Rhaef knew that he'd hired Ren on in his position.  Man probably expected to be let go.  Of course Kale would have to be ruttin' out of his mind to do a thing like that.  It hadn't taken much consideration for Kale to come to the conclusion that he had, "I got somethin' ta talk ta ya 'bout." he said.

Rhaef nodded and collapsed on his bunk, he pulled out a pack of smokes and lit one, "Understand that Captain, and I just want to say, you've been right fair takin' me on way you did, but that boy Harrison, he can fly circles 'round me in his sleep. So you want to be lettin' me go, just askin' you do it, in a decent port 'a call and with a decent reference." Rhaef replied, figuring what was coming.

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

Kale quirked a brow, "Ya got this whole conversation pegged out, don't ya?" he said as Rhaef launched into his little speech, collapsing onto his bed.  He pulled the small stool out from beneath the desk and took a seat himself, looked at Rhaef, then stood back up and crossed the room.  He turned back around, "I'm not gonna be droppin' ya off at no decent port." Kale said, and he could see the surprise registering in Rhaef's eyes although none of it showed on his face.  Kale smiled, "I won't be droppin' ya off somewhere decent like cause I ain't got no plans of droppin' ya off at all."

Kale finally stopped pacing the room and sat back down on the stool and looked at Rhaef levely, "'Course, what with Ren takin' over pilotin' ya seem ta be outta a job ..." Kale smiled, "So what say you ta me offerin' you a different one?  I could use a man like you at my side - as a first mate." Kale finished.  That was the punch line, the climax, the point of this whole conversation.  He watched Rhaef's face eagerly for the other man's response.

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

Rhaef paused, he was genuinely shocked, he figured the Captain was trying to get rid of him, not keep him on. "You want me to be the first mate, and such Cap'n. Meaning you want me to be headin' out of ship more often," he said somewhat incredulously. Rhaef pondered this a bit, wondering what were the odds that they'd run into someone who knew him, someone who'd want him killed. "As long as you willing to listen to the suggestions, I've got Cap'n, I'm willing to give it a whirl. Better than trying to find a new crew and ship."

Kale smirked, "Well don' go actin' like it's a chore or nothin'." he said and looked down at his hands then back up at Rhaef, his face sincere, "I like you on this ship - an' I trust ya an' far as I can tell ya've earned that trust.  Destiny ... well, she's like my home.  I'd like it if ya could come to consider her yer home as well."

Rhaef shurgged, "Ain't never known much of a home, Cap'n. Been running most of my life, and well, Destiny is the closest thing to home, I've known. I'd be glad to take on the role." Rhaef answered in his mind, that pretty much summed up discussion. He was still a little surprised that Kale had offered him the job, but still, he was grateful, he preferred Destiny to any of his other options.

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

.... right ... if Destiny were your home Rhaef - then why'd ya leave? ... Kale stifled the thought because he knew the answer.  The answer was him and he just couldn't handle that right now.  So pulled the bottles out from Rhaef's closet - they were right where he had expected them to be.  Rhaef's room was almost the exact opposites of Geoff's.

With the extra bottles in hand Kale didn't even glance back as he headed out of the bunk ... once in the hall he peeked his head into the bridge though.

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

After their daring escape from Torrance Station the crew of Destiny was left broken and beaten ... and one crew member short.  The mourning had just begun for the crew but they had to press on.  They dropped the young boy which Kale, Geoff, and Wei-Li had saved off with his father and then turned to Paquin for Ren's funeral.  It was a short trip that left all of them with heavy hearts but Ren's death had effected no one as hard as Acacia.  So two weeks later found the crew of Destiny on Osiris saying goodbye to their doctor.

And although he was millions of miles away, as Destiny and her crew suffered ... so did Rhaef ...

Re: Destiny- Rhaef's Bunk

The crew of Destiny has finally managed to get itself back on its feet.  After a trying past few months things are starting to go back to normal.  The absence of Ren and Acacia is still felt but the ships newest members have begun to find a home on board the old freighter.  Most relationships have been mended and although there are still some unanswered questions between members of the crew life has been peaceful.

However, after a few months of excitement and trials the crew has discovered that the cash flow has come to a sputtering halt.  The crew needs a job and soon.  First rule of the black is to keep flying.  Fortunately, one of Kale's contacts managed to put him in touch with the infamous Sin Twins.  The girls are probably the most ... unpredictable of contacts, one can never be quite certain what they're getting into when dealing with them.  But one thing is for certain, the pay-out is always good.  The crew has set up a meeting with the twins in a casino on Santo to get more details about the possible job.

--> From Destiny Dining hall

Rhaef quickly stripped down and washed up.  The last thing he wanted was to keep Charlie waiting, or worse take long enough that something would come up and interrupt their outing.  He dressed quickly, working on looking respectable but not too stiff.

He quickly ran a comb through his hair, checked his balance and headed down to the cargo bay.
