Kyoko felt the second balloon hit her square in the back, completely ruining her outfit, and was brushed aside as Dake and Lei ran off into the Cargo Bay.

Kyoko stood there livid before stalking after them.

Re: Destiny- Dining Hall

[From Destiny: Cargo Bay]

Dake let out a litany of curses as he stomped into the dining hall.  He was starting to rethink even bothering coming aboard.  Should have just left well enough alone and stayed back on Osiris.  Even if he did hate the core.  Being a limo driver wasn't so bad.  It was no space ship but it paid the bills.  He'd been a fool for thinking that this was where he wanted to be.  Kale had made it abundantly clear that he wasn't welcome - and truth be told it wasn't like it helped him none having to deal with his brothers old friend.  The same "friend" that had gotten Nate killed.  It had been a long time - but it still didn't get any easier.

Dake slumped into one of the chairs - making no move to grab up a mop to start cleaning up.

Lei entered to find Dake just sitting in one of the chairs.  She shuffled her feet in the doorway, her eyes staring at the ground, "Aren't we going to clean up?  The Captain will be really mad if we don't ..."

Dake looked up, "Right, of course he will."

Stupid companion got him all fired up. I mean, really, it was an ac-ci-dent ... women.

Of course he shouldn't be taking any of his frustration out on the kid.  Last thing he needed her to think was that having a good time equaled trouble ... although it more often then not did.  He smiled at Lei, "Don't worry 'bout.  I'll clean up in here.  See if Wei-Li needs some help in the bay."

Dake watched her go.  Once her small frame had disappeared around the corner however he slumped right back down into his seat.  There was water and bits of rubber gloves everywhere but Dake made no motion to clean it up.  The whole thing was a Yi Dwei Da Buen Chuo Roh*.  Kale was blowing the whole mess out of proportion just cause his precious glorified whore got a little wet.

Dake missed Brock.  He missed his racing days.  He missed growing up on Santo.  He missed Nate ...

Kyoko entered the Dining Hall and looked around. Huh, there sat the good for nothing pilot, and also, a complete mess. She shrugged and walked towards cabinets, grabbing a glass and some water.

"I see you're exceptionally hard working in addition to being an ace pilot and all around mature man..."

Dake turned his head, he hadn't heard the woman come in until she spoke.  A wry grin crossed his face, "I do what I can." he said, "Although, gotta say, I can't compete with shrieking whore and all around pain in the ass.  Do they train you for that, or did you pick up that little tid bit all on your own?"

Kyoko smiled cruelly.

"As it happens, we are trained to present ourselves and act in a manner according to our station. I see, however, that etiquette is lost on you..."

She shrugged.

"Which is a shame, because if it wasn't, you might've had a saving grace."

Dake smirked, "An' I ain't sayin' that I don't appreciate such trainin'.  I mean, what would the rich folk do if they couldn't call a well trained, etiquette expert to get them through the lonely nights?"

He let her second comment wash right over him as he watched Kyoko take a sip from her glass, "Don't spill." he said, with a grin.

Kyoko smiled and drained the glass of water before wiping it off and setting to clean it.

"Now now, just because you obviously have no idea of the finer things in life doesn't mean you should denegrate those that do...or are you bitter because you can't even get a untrained street whore?"

"I believe they prefer the term 'lady of the night'." Dake said and produced a mock look of disappointment, "I expected you to know better, is it too late to get your money back from that etiquette trainin' you went to?"

Kyoko sighed mockingly and shook her head.

"You'll find sleeping with a...woman of the night is a kin to playing Russian Roulette. Perhaps that is why men prefer well-educated and clean companions over a common whore, you know you don't run the risk of anything. Not that you would know any better, I'm sure you've collected your fair share of communicable disease..."

She washed the glass twice and set to drying it.

Re: Destiny- Dining Hall

Dake gave Kyoko a crude smile when she accused him of collecting communicable diseases, "Oh, I'm workin' on the whole set, only a few left to go."

Truth be told Dake had never been with any type of 'lady of the night' reputable or no.  Not that he hadn't had the opportunity - back when he was still a big deal skiff racer he'd had lots of options.  But that type of thing had never appealed to him.  And in his opinion a Companion was no better then the girls working the corner.  They all sold one thing - sex.  And as far as Dake was concerned that wasn't a commodity.

He looked back to Kyoko, "Don't you have elsewhere to be?  Or you plan on rattin' me out to the Captain again?"

Kyoko practically scoffed.

"Ratting you out to Kale? Please, you happened to have pissed me off with your immature antics. However, since what you're doing now doesn't involve me, I could care less. You're Kale's problem, the only time you become my problem is when a water filled balloon ruins an outfit that was my mother's."

She shrugged.

"Besides, it seems to me that you and Kale have enough between you two to last a lifetime..."

Kyoko finished drying the glass, set it back in the cabinet, and left the room. Nothing more needed to be said.

Re: Destiny- Dining Hall

Dake's smug grin turned to a frown at Kyoko's parting shot.  She'd hit that nail on the head.  The two of them had issues to last them more then a lifetime.  He wondered for the millionth time why he was even here as he stared intently at a spot on the floor - not really seeing, more lost in thought then anything else.  That is until he heard the sound of footsteps coming down the hall from the hall.

Ai ya. The was sure to be Kale coming.  Dake suddenly regretted not having begun cleaning up.  He was going to be pissed again.

Kale sighed as he entered the dining hall, although he wasn't exactly surprised to see Dake standing there - not one floor mopped up or surgical glove scrap removed from the floor.  The man still acted like they were ten years old.  It was no longer the time or place for stupid games.  Kale fixed a frown on his face, "I see you've been workin' real hard." he said, disapproval evident in his voice.

Dake sighed when he heard Kale's voice from behind him and rolled his eyes, "I was just about to get to that actually, really." he said.  Kale's disapproving face killed him.  What right did he have to disapprove of Dake, it wasn't like he was king of Londinium or nothing.  He was a two-bit Captain ... of a ship that try and Dake might to convince himself he didn't care about, he really wanted to be apart of.  If that meant sucking up to Kale - he may just have to deal with that.

Kale shook his head, "Dake ... you keep this up, an' I ain't gonna have no choice but to send you packin'.  This ain't no carnival cruise." Kale tried to keep his face hard, but for a moment, Dake standing there with that guilty look on his face ... god he looked so much like Nate.  Kale's features softened for a brief moment, "Just ... just get it done." he said, and continued through the room to the cargo bay to finish up plans with Geoff.

Kale stepped into the dining hall.  When he saw Dake he tried to push his personal feelings aside.  He and Dake had a lot to work through, but right now he was his pilot.  And Kale needed his pilot right now.  So, time to man up and stop playing games.

"Come on, yer with me.  We'll probably be needin' you on the bridge, you can leave this for now." Kale said, trying to maintain and professional air.

Re: Destiny- Dining Hall

Dake had been trying to clean, he really had. But as Kale made yet another appearance the pilot had been taking his 5th break… or was it his 50th? No matter, the ship wasn’t gonna get much cleaner either way, it was just so gorram boring. Plus anyhow, it seemed like there was real work to be done, maybe a chance to stretch his flying-related muscles.

“I’ll be supposin’ you will be needin’ me.”

A pause as Dake tried looking Kale in the eye. Now he was a needed-nuisance. Great.

“Not really seeing how you’ll fly this thing otherwise. You’ll probably be crashin’ without me. But ya know… I could just stay here’nd clean…”

Another slightly more awkward pause. Smart remarks could wait for later, now was the time for sucking up. It was needing the job... yeah that was it, had nothing to do with anything else.

“I mean… yes sir! Mr Capt’n Sir!”

A miniature salute followed.

Re: Destiny- Dining Hall

Kale narrowed his eyes at Dake's smart ass remarks.  If the boy was still thinking he was some hot shot skiff racing pilot then he had a lot to learn about how the 'verse really worked.  Life on a ship was simple.  You followed orders, and you got paid.  Kale stepped forward in a slightly threatening manner, "If'n I wanted you cleanin' the ship - you'd be cleanin' the ship.  An' don' you go gettin' notions that yer indispensable.  I didn't want you here Dake.  An' if you start becomin' more trouble then yer worth, then it'd be a short matter to get you gone."

Kale wasn't entirely sure how much of that threat he'd actually follow through with and how much of it was just ... what?  Sibling rivalry?  It was like the games of will they used to play when they were younger, who could intimidate who.  Nate had been the best at it, but Kale was a close second.  Dake had always lost.  Of course, Dake had always been the younger one.

"Come on, I don't got time fer this."

He didn't wait for Dake to respond but instead moved brisking towards the bridge.

Re: Destiny- Dining Hall

Job or no job, Kale had no right to be speaking to him like that, not even if he was the gorram Captain. Who did that Hun Dun think he was anyways? Dake hadn’t quite realized how pissed off he was until after he’d called out at the quickly departing Captain.

“Just like you got Nate gone!?”

This wasn’t a game, not for Dake. Kale had gotten his brother killed, and now here Dake was, taking orders from the very man. He felt like puking. After a minute that seemed like an hour, Dake reluctantly followed Kale to the bridge.

Re: Destiny- Dining Hall

The crew of Destiny has finally managed to get itself back on its feet.  After a trying past few months things are starting to go back to normal.  The absence of Ren and Acacia is still felt but the ships newest members have begun to find a home on board the old freighter.  Most relationships have been mended and although there are still some unanswered questions between members of the crew life has been peaceful.

However, after a few months of excitement and trials the crew has discovered that the cash flow has come to a sputtering halt.  The crew needs a job and soon.  First rule of the black is to keep flying.  Fortunately, one of Kale's contacts managed to put him in touch with the infamous Sin Twins.  The girls are probably the most ... unpredictable of contacts, one can never be quite certain what they're getting into when dealing with them.  But one thing is for certain, the pay-out is always good.  The crew has set up a meeting with the twins in a casino on Santo to get more details about the possible job.

Re: Destiny- Dining Hall

While Wei-Li wasn't the world's best of cooks, she wasn't the worst either and that meant she got to take her turn in the kitchen like everyone else who could find the right end of a spatula.  Today, right now-- she was cooking.

She had spent most of her life being about the 'now' but ever since she'd joined the crew of Destiny, she found herself wondering about the future.

It didn't help that Geoff had completely confounded the now.  Every time she'd given up on him... he'd come back and do something nice... or stupid-- it was hard to tell which was coming and Wei-Li was fond of her 'now' being far less confusing and far more enjoyable.

Without her brothers and uncles... and cousins looking out for her, she'd been forced to think about what she said and did.  On Paquin it had been easy to flirt and play because people knew the game... and if they didn't well-- that's what brothers were for.

Geoff didn't play the game and that had led to more than a bit of confusion... and it meant she had had to figure it out on her own.  And just as she'd figured out, or thought she had-- he'd changed.

And then there was Dake.  Dake was about the now-- at least she was fairly certain he was.

The problem was, she'd found herself thinking about the future and it confused her.

Wei-li forcefully pressed the soy-protien patties into the pan with the spatula, it was as if were their fault.
