Destiny: Infirmary

The walls are white and the floor is spotless.  Shelves and counterspace lines the walls and various equipment is stored everywhere.  An examination table sits in the center of the room and a rolling stool sits nearby it.  The lights are bright and flourecent.  Two swing doors lead into the room and the front walls are windows.

Re: Destiny- Infirmary

Acacia sits in the Infirmary she is reading her book of spinal injuries.  She quietly sat there reading with her glasses sitting on her face.  She sat happily, thinking about where they were going to head next.  She had been paid and no one had been hurt recently.  She is wearing a long black skirt and a red top she has a lab coat over the whole thing.  She had been reading for awhile, and was getting a little bit hungry.

Re: Destiny- Infirmary

Acacia entered the infirmary and grabbed one of her labcoats she kept hung in the closet in the room.  She went to the chair against the wall, she wondered what Ren was up to, and how far out they were from...dang can't remember where we are goin  She grabbed one of her journals, and reviewed, if she was going to be here, the room was already spotless so she might as well review.

Re: Destiny- Infirmary

Acacia was bored, there was no two ways about it.  She was bored and was trying to figure out how to aleviate that.  She thought about sneaking into Ren's bunk, but she didn't want him to be annoyed, and have him worry about her being too needy.  It was funny, ever since she had gotten the report from the alliance soldier.  Telling her that her brother was dead, she had thought she was fine on her own.  She thought she would never fall in love.  But blast it all she loved Ren, and really wanted to be with him every instance she could.  She decided against it however now, only cause it felt too risky.  She decided however that it was time to watch the traffic of the ship.  She decided to go sit out in the cargo bay for now.

Geoff walked into the infirmary with the captain with a light grin. "I woulda loved ta shoot him, but I ain't one to do as such to an unarmed man in cold blood. 'Sides, on the plus side, I got us all the supplies without charge. Not to mention this damn fine hat...", he remarked as he helped the captain to the examining table so he could lay down or sit.

Geoff had turned to look for the doc when it looked like she had just found them. He nodded to her as he got out of her way so she could do her work. "Well, then. I'm gonna go put away the stuff, maybe get a drink and possibly go break the core world fancy pants's arms. See ya later, Cap'n. Doc.", he said and then left the infirmary, knowing the captain would probably be in good hands now.

((OOC-I'm assuming a clean wound, bullet passing straight through calf muscle))

Acacia pulled the fabric away, and off completlely leaving it lay on the floor of the infimary.  She examined the wound.  It seemed to be oozing a bit of blood still.   She watched how the captain was able to move the leg some  She walked over to the medicine cabinet and got some antiseptic ointment,  You are a lucky man, it seems the bullet missed hitting an major artery, also it seems all tthe ligaments are still intact, tendons too I won't lie, this will sting quite a bit, but bullets aren't always the cleanest things so need to make sure you don't get this infected  She doused a large cotton swab with the liquid and dabbed it on the wound gently using a pair of tweezers, so as to not touch it with her hands.  She slowly cleaned the blood away from around the area.

Kale gritted his teeth as Acacia cleaned the wound, always his least favorite part, stung like hell.  "Lucky woulda been getting out of there with no bullet wound, just once I would like to not need your assistance in the infirmary after a job.  Nice and simple like, that's all I wanted." Kale said in response to Acacia.

Acacia grins Now, Now, Captain it is nice to make a woman feel needed. So what happened?   She said as debated whether or not this wound needed stiches.  She decided no then went a grabbed a large gauze pad and taped in place or the wound. After she did that she took some clean bandage and wrapped it around the wound several times.  Be glad the bullet wasn't in there so I didn't have to go fishing it out.

Then he looked down, and mumbled, "Sorry, I just don't take to kindly to being shot."  He looked back up at the doctor, "Apparently our core worlder decided to have a friendly conversation with the locals, and we all know what a personable person that hun dun is ... apparently almost got his brains shot out before Geoff did some fancy shootin' of his own - killed the blasted sheriff.  Seems to have caused a bit 'a hard feelin's." Geoff nodded lightly, knowing the captain probably didn't want to be pushed about things just about now. Besides, he had heard Charlie yell for a blanket so he figured that would give him an excuse to cut out of the infirmary. He really wasn't fond of the needles and such around. Just reminded him he would probably be needing the service of a lot of the stuff in the near future. He shook his head lightly and, grabbing a blanket from a nearby shelf, heads out into the passenger's quarters to give it to Charlie.

Acacia went to the sink and scrubbed her hands, she smiled she had realized the boy had woke up.  Specially since she had been watching.  She didn't know what was on those children, some sort of chemical or what not, better be safe.  She dries her hands off and puts on some latex gloves two pairs.  She walks over to the table, and first looks to the boy that woke up. Hi, my name is Acacia, I'm a doctor, how ya feelin today.  She takes out her pen light and tries to judge any pupil reaction, making sure the child wasn't in shock.  She takes out her stethoscope to check heart rate as well.    After being satisfied that all seems well, she pulls over a stool and sits down.  you are on a spaceship, you're safe for now,  do you have a name?

Sephone looks fearfully from the doctor to the man, trying desperately to wrap her mind around what was happening. She didn't recognize these people but that wasn't entirely unusual.  The doctor had told her to say something, she wanted her to tell her how she was feeling.  That's what she needed to do.  If she listened maybe they'd put her back in her room and she could go to sleep.

She opened her small, rosebud shaped lips. "I'm -" another cough racked her small body, "I'm feeling disoriented, and lightheaded, my throat hurts, and I feel weak. " she tried to give as a complete descpription as she could.  The doctors liked that.  It made them nod their heads curtly and let her go back to her room.

Charlie walked into the Infirmary, stepping gingerly as she went, relieved at the cold floor under her feet.  Even the soles were burning up, like the rest of her skin...and were no one else around, she would crouch down and rest her forehead on the walkway, the thin metal that seperated her and the negative-four degrees Kelvin atmosphere.  There was a slight smile at the thought, stepping out of Acacia's way, keeping her back to the wall so she's not holding herself up by her hands anymore.

"All I...I think I just have a fever.  Anything that'll just cool me down, y'know?  Kill the headache I'm havin', too..."

"Acacia, I-..."  She's cut off by the thermometer, rolling her eyes a bit as she looks over to the table.  Best to let the doc do her job...if she came to Charlie with something mechanical that needed doing, she'd just take over as well.  Charlie stretches out, reaching the table before she's fully off the wall to make sure she's stable, sitting on the edge and letting her feet dangle off the edge.  She slowly watches the thermometer before she can speak, waiting for it to beep...

Acacia reaches up puts her hand on Charlie's shoulder and pushes her till she lays down.  No medicine till you lay down  She has a syringe of Ibuprofen, medicine really hadn't improved on it as a pain killer in the 600 years since it's invention.  She looked to make sure the girl didn't see her injecting Charlie.  She hits the syringe into charlie's left forearm.  She injects 100 mg

Charlie lies back.  She may be resisting the doctor's push, but being this weak, it doesn't really matter.  She lays back on the bed, letting out a sigh.  Her eyes blink as the medicine is put into her, not making a single sound about it...this is what she asked for.  The syringe feels millions of degrees colder than her skin, but it's a good feeling, snaking out around where she was punctured.  She closes her eyes, sighing, letting herself relax again...

Cahrlie let out a sigh, covering her mouth in case she coughs again...thankfully not, this time.  She speaks again, but this time a little slower...the painkiller is definitely starting to spread through her system.  "Cap'n...you do me a favour, tell everyone not t'worry.  It's just a fever..."

It takes a moment for her to finally see that the captain has gone, muttering somewhere through half-lidded eyes.  "Cap'n, wait, I have...letters...for you to send..."  As Charlie relaxes, the fever finally begins to take over, leaving her consciousness somewhere under the headache and the pain.  She lays back again, closing her eyes.  "Letters to...love letters...that I never got t'send to..."  She murmurs a few more unintelligable things after that, tilting her head to the side, her arms relaxing on the edges of the table.  She's been up for only fifteen minutes or so, and it's already left a toll on her weakened state.  Her fingers twitch a few times as she slowly drifts into a fevered sleep, breathing slowly as she goes under...

She took out the photo from the microscope and started comparing.  She had listing of viruses in alphabetical order, starting with AIS and working through.  Ren I will be looking through these a bit I am counting on you to keep pushing me, so I don't stop till I find a match.

Charlie's head turned slightly, her eyes blinking a bit.  She was hearing voices...not that she didn't always, but this was different.  It had been the soft murmurings of Ren, even of Acacia's occasional side-chatter to herself.  This, however...this was something else.  Someone more gruff, someone louder.  It was enough to bring her back to the surface.  "Mmm...hello?  Who is...is anyone...where are?"  She speaks, somewhat confused as she lifts her head up, blinking slowly.  She gets up a little further on her elbows, feeling something tug in her hand.  She slowly raises it, seeing the IV that runs into her wrist, turning her hand as she examines it.

"N'ive...hooked.  S'like I'm...am I a fish?"  She narrows her brow slightly, beads of sweat trailing down her temples as she thinks.  "I'd...I would...remember that, I...I'm not."  She mutters something else, turning her arm around the other way.  "I'm still...is something wrong?"

Kale moves quicker through the passengers quarters as he hears a loud beeping noise emmiting from the infirmary, his heart catches in his throat as he prays to gods he has long since stopped believing in that that is not the sound of one of his crew dying.  Coming into the room he sees Kendra leaning over the Doc and Kyoko bent over the small girl. He doesn't even know what to say, watching as Kyoko deftly moves about the infirmary, he can see the woman is calling on every bit of calm and knowledge that she possesses and he is reminded again how capable the companion really is ... he wouldn't normally think this the place for such a delicate lady - but Kyoko was by no means frail.

"Is there anything I can do?" he asks.

"I trust the other passengers have been locked down?" she asks as she slides the medical pad beside her as she works, tapping in symptoms and statistics. She was more focused on trying to come up with a treatement to help those suffering, or she'd be racking the captain over the coals about the dividends his illict work had wrought.

"The rest?" Kale asked, "You mean all three of us that's left standin'?" He pulled a mask on over his face however.  He still felt fine and if things went according to plan then they'd have the meds soon enough to start trying to right this mess.  Looking around at Ren and Acacia, after seeing Charlie ... it'd be a long time before he could forgive himself for causing such a disaster - 'course, if he hadn't taken that crate and opened it what would have happened to these kids?

"We're going to be landing on Londinium soon." he said loudly to be heard over the beeping, "Kyoko, I need you to keep everyone in here, no one leaves, you hear me?  I don' know how this is goin' ta go down, hopefully we'll walk away with the meds, but I can't guarentee that there won't be shootin' and if there is ... you keep them safe."

Wei-Li nodded.  "If you want someone to talk to.. well, okay... probably not me.. but if you want someone to distract you with things like slack rope walking lessons..."

She smiled.  One way of helping people with their problems was taking them away from them-- that was what performance was all about.

When the Doctor asked about what she was doing next, she scratched her head. "Well, I was supposed to deploy a new unit and bring the old one in for repairs.. .but the new one decided it really didn't want to work.. so now I've got to strip it and the other two replacement units down and try and figure what went wrong in the first one, make sure it doesn't happen with the other two... by .. tomorrow."

While Wei-Li seems to be aware of the amount of work that's facing her, she's still able to joke about it.

Get the medical bag

Ren ran into the infirmary not knowing what he'd find or where to look for Acacia's bag.  Scanning the room he found her bag sitting near the door, ready to go, he grabbed it and ran back to the bridge.

He knew that it was bad by Acacia's reaction, but he was glad to see her coming back to herself.  He pushed the image of her trembling and Kyron with the gun pointing to her temple from his mind, but it refused to leave completely.

He could only imagine what it was like for her.

After Kale had set Rhaef down he stood back to allow Acacia and Kyoko to do their thing, still worried but more hopeful now that everything would be alright.  Acacia was a competent Doc, and she was holding it together admirably considering she had just spent the last hour or so with a gun to her head.  Knowing that he was of no use in the infirmary since Ren was already giving blood he took his leave.

"If you need me, let me know, for now I'll get out of your way." with his crew being treated he could now figure out what to do with Kyron. A million ways to kill him sprung to his mind unbidden ... Kyron better watch his step, because his death was far too tempting.

Geoff had helped carry Rhaef to the infirmary along with the captain and had allowed the captain to set him down. Geoff's mind, however, was less on Rhaef and more on what he had heard Ren say in the cargo hold. Wei-li had been shot. Everybody else was safe and, for that, he was very grateful, but Wei-li had gotten shot trying to save them. Geoff had an awful sense of memory at that point of another who had gotten shot trying to help. "I told her brother that it was my job to keep everybody safe, including her. I'm a liar again...", he murmured to himself as he looked to where Wei-li lay sleeping,"Everybody I say I'm gonna protect...end up..."

He didn't finish the thought as it brought to his mind the image of Lei. He had sworn to protect her too. He had sworn to protect her just like he had sworn to protect Tate and Wei-li. It was with a distracted shake of his head that he turned and headed out of the infirmary, intent on seeing if the girl was safe. He suddenly had the irrational need to know that Lei was safe. That he could protect at least one person he said he would...

Destiny needed medical help and fast.  They made way for the nearest planet at the time - Orisis.

"Well then," Acacia answered.  "Guess we better get going,"

She handed Wei-Li her shirt, then began filing her paperwork and locking it away.  When she was finished she looked at Wei-Li.  "Ready?"

Wei-Li took her shirt and slipped it over her head.  She had to admit, moving was a lot easier than it had been, but...  she shook her head.  She didn't regret how she got into this situation, 'so why beat yourself up over it' she thought to herself then smiled at Acacia's question.

"Ready, she answered with a smile as she slid, rather than jumped off the table.  She headed into the hallway and waited for Acacia before continuing to the cargo bay.

[From Athens: Connor's Apartment => Destiny: Cargo Bay]

Kale sat on the sterile examining table with his shirt off, the cool air causing his hair to stand on end slightly.  He was trying to hold still for Acacia to deal with the bullet wound he'd acquired out on the job, she'd caught him trying to head up to the dining hall to continue planning and had warned him in no uncertain terms that he was to report directly to the infirmary.  Now normally Kale would have taken offense to being ordered around on his own gorram ship - but the Doc had a point, he was no used to them on this job with a hole in his shoulder.  Course he still insisted it was nothin' but a pin prick.

Kale grunted slightly as Acacia worked on stitching up the wound and turned his head to look at Connor, "Pleasant folk back there, friends 'o yers?" he asked, referring to the men who had decided to drop by and cause all sorts of trouble for them.

"Kale, this gets easier if you stop moving."  Acacia slapped his good shoulder once, shaking her head.  If Kale had it his way, he'd probably be held together with tape and sealant...anything that would make the patching easy and fast, instead of correctly.  She dabbed at the area with disenfectant, continuing to sew the wound up, lightly humming to herself as she did.

"Anyone else sneaking around with a wound that I should be looking at?"

Suspicious Bumps and Dangerous Lumps

Acacia stepped back into the infirmary, letting out a sigh and stretching her arms over her head, looking at Kyoko as she stepped around the table...cracked ribs, hmm?  She'd have to make sure, but without the luxury of a full office, she'd have to use the tools available to her.  Acacia untied the robe that Kyoko wore, pulling it aside so that she could see the side where she was hit with the pipe, frowning at the large bruises that were forming over the skin.  It must've been a good hit; coupled with Kyoko's small frame, it's a wonder that the pipe didn't cause a rib to puncture her lung or something equally damaging.

She pulled on a pair of gloves, the plastic snapping at her wrists, rubbing her hands together as she pulled over the small ultrasound machine that she had brought with her onto the ship.  It wasn't as sophisticated as an X-Ray, but she'd be able to see where the fractures were located at and how bad it was.  Acacia gentley placed a hand on the center of Kyoko's ribcage, running over the bruised area with the ultrasound machine and watching the screen.  She was breathing a bit shallow, but otherwise at a normal pace...it couldn't have been too extensive.  She'd seen her share of large rib cracks, and were it extensive, not even blood loss could make you pass out from the pain you would be in.

It appeared only one was broken, and while one or two surrounding might have stress fractures, they seemed mostly intact.  There was nothing she could do except give her medication for the pain and tell her to take it easy.  Acacia stood back up, gently touching the side of Kyoko's face.  "Hun, you need to come to, okay?"  She waited a moment for a response, but when none came, she put her hands around Kyoko's head to elevate it.  Best make her comfortable if she's going to sleep it off.  She set her head on a pillow, and while her mind was on the ibuprofin she was going to administer, all those thoughts popped out of her head when her fingers came back red.  The inner monologue shut out as she stepped around the bed, turning Kyoko's head and searching for the source of the blood...a rather good-sized lump, caused by...whatever.  Probably a slip and fall, but that was unimportant.  She put her head back, opening each of her eyes and shining a light in them...the eyes were dialated, and while it didn't look too extreme, she couldn't sleep...they would have to check if any damage had been done to her brain.

Acacia stepped back around, knowing that she wasn't going to respond to any stimuli; if Ren's transportation hadn't woken her up with the broken rib, then simply speaking wasn't going to do the trick.  She stepped back to one of the drawers, pulling out a bottle of ammonium carbonate and shaking it a bit, muttering...this wasn't going to feel good, the inhilation reflex was probably going to hurt like hell with the broken rib.  However, it was the only way.  Acacia uncapped the bottle, setting one hand on Kyoko's shoulder to keep her from jerking when she woke up...and with her steadfast resolve, she lowered the bottle under Kyoko's nose, letting the fumes drift upward.

The astringant smell is strong enough for Acacia to smell but clearly Kyoko is in serious trouble as she doesn't even move. Her breath is shallow but regular, a good sign.

After a moment she makes a face and starts to stir.

"Smells..bad.." her voice is weak and sleep, but she shows life.

Acacia finished the IV, taking Kyoko's arm and rubbing alcohol over the spot she was going to place the needle.  It would be okay if she passed out now.  She'd have to wake her every hour or two, make sure she didn't fall into too deep of a sleep...but she could drift off, definitely.

"I didn't speak to Charlene, I haven't really had words with her in a day or two.  She tends to drift off into her own world when Kale and the others go on jobs...not to mention she seems to be taking Rhaef's leave hard."  Charlie stuck the needle into Kyoko's arm, holding it in place while she taped it down.  "I'm sure you can speak with her about it later, if you wish.  You are going to have to stay here for the night, and tomorrow we can bring you back to your shuttle...but when you're there, you'll also need to keep resting. You're going to be light-headed and woozy for the next few days, okay?"

After successfully delivering the stamp to the Professor and despite the loss of their first mate, the crew of Destiny headed back into the black.  Back to work.  A few jobs later has left them with a crate from Xiaygin to be delivered to Torrance Station.  They've just docked at the space station located on the rim.

Its now been almost a month since the museum job and Rhaef leaving - the wounds are healing but they haven't been forgotten yet.

Infirmarizationality

Acacia ran into the infirmary, nearly sliding into the countertop as she went, bracing herself with her good hand.  She kept the injured hand close to her body, the broken fingers sending a pulse of pain all the way up her arm, and to even move the rest of the hand hurt...but this wasn't the time for that.  Right now, there was a job to do.  With two of their better gunhands gone, there was no telling how they were going to fare against the reavers.  It would take all of them working together to get through this.  She couldn't fire a weapon to save her life, but before it was all over, someone was going to need to be stitched up.

"Fang zong feng kuang de jie."  Acacia cursed as she opened the cabinets, looking through her supplies.  There wouldn't be much that would be necessary to pull out, since the use of half of the equipment would require bringing someone back to the informary.  Only the essentials...

"Ren!"  She spoke in surprise, looking down towards the cargo bay and then back at him.  "What are you doing here?  We have to go...to go save the others...why aren't you out there?"

Re: Infirmarizationality

Acacia turned towards the pilot in shock, spilling about half of what she'd had in her arms.  The first thing she'd set out to do on this new ship was to stock up the cabinets with all the supplies she'd brought with her, laying it out in a neat order like she'd had before.  Everything was alphabatized and neatly faced off to the edge of the cabinets, and things were kept clean and thouroughly wiped down.  She'd made a point of cleaning everything before she bothered to bring in sterile equipment.  If she was going to have to work on the go, there would not be time to do it while she was in the process of saving a life.

"What?  Oh, sorry."  The small bottles ran out of her hands and bounced off of the countertop, rolling out onto the floor around them.  "Sorry.  Must not be a good sign of confidence in a doctor if she can't keep her hands on a few perscriptions, eh?"

Ren laughed and bent over to help pick up some of the bottles sliding away, "Ain't nothing to mind, little bit a chaos is required to crew on Destiny. Should have seen my first day." Ren answered. He began setting the bottles back on the counter, he had not realized the new doc was a woman til he'd entered the infirmary. He'd not really paid attention to Kale and Rhaef's discussions about her, since it was Rhaef who most likely goin' to be needin' her services.

Even so, he was not ready for the doc to be so pretty, he'd knew they'd been flying for a good piece, and well, Charlie been more like a sister, than anything else. Now standing here, he'd been shocked by the fact that his first thought was of how pretty the new doc was. He felt himself blushing. "Oh...by the way...name's Harrison, Reiner Harrison, most folks just call me Ren." He stumbled, completely loosing what semblance of cool, he had before the conversation started.

"Reiner...that's something I haven't heard before."  There was a flash of a smile there, and then she looked back at the ground.  "While most would have called me Doctor Keese, I suppose it'll just be Acacia now.  Titles aren't really what's important out here."

He looked at the woman, even with her glasses on, he noticed her pretty eyes. "So how'd you come to find us, Doc?" Most of us have interesting stories. Re: Infirmarizationality

Acacia choked back a sob, pulling back from Ren's kiss and looking up into his eyes, biting her lower lip for a moment.  She was happy, in this moment...but ti couldn't last forever.  They couldn't get married and get off this ship if they couldn't save t whole thing.  She swallowed hard, stepping back with her armful of medical supplies and trying her best to look strong in one of the scariest moments of her life.

"I can't, Ren...I'm needed.  Just like you are.  I...I love you, and I love this, but it needs to pause for just a moment."  She leaned up, kissing him again as she stood on the tips of her toes.  "To be continued."  With those last words, she turned and led the way to the Cargo Bay, determined to live.

"Damn straight," Ren breathed quietly, after the kiss broke and he followed Acacia into the cargo bay. Rhaef or no Rhaef, Geoff or no Geoff, they were going to survive, and he'd do whatever it took. Everyone aboard this ship deserved that chance.

Re: Infirmarizationality

Kyoko staggers in, the dead weight on her shoulder keeping her off balance. She winced as she slammed into the doorframe, sparks filling her vision as she took the impact.

I can take it better than he can. Reavers did a number on all of them. She thinks as she brushes her hair out of her sweating brow. Dead weight he might be, but at least he was still breathing she noted as she laid him on the table and shook her head. The ship was shaking and shuddering. Too much for Kale's hand on it, and she was down here in the Infirmiry.

"Come on Lei, we are clear of the ship, you can fly steady from here on out." She mutters to herself as she slides open a medicine cabinet starts pulling out pallets fo Acacia to use when she got in there.

Connor moaned slightly as Kyoko slammed into the doorframe. The jarring had revived him from the inky blackness in which he had been. It was nice...until he became more conscious...conscious enough to feel the pain in his leg and ribs. God, those Reavers had done quite a number on him. He tried sitting up, but it didn't work. He was sore and aching. So, instead, Connor turned his head towards Kyoko.

"...D...did we make it?"

"So far, right now we need to get you restrained before you fall off the bed." Kyoko says as she straps him down. "Where do you hurt the most? I can give you a local, and leave a syringe for you..in case we're boarded." She says as she pats his hand gently.

Connor moaned as the straps tightened down. Damn that hurt. He could see his vision fading in and out, like he might black out again.

"I'll take that...as...a...no......" Connor was out again.

Re: Infirmarizationality

After their daring escape from Torrance Station the crew of Destiny was left broken and beaten ... and one crew member short.  The mourning had just begun for the crew but they had to press on.  They dropped the young boy which Kale, Geoff, and Wei-Li had saved off with his father and then turned to Paquin for Ren's funeral.  It was a short trip that left all of them with heavy hearts but Ren's death had effected no one as hard as Acacia.  So two weeks later found the crew of Destiny on Osiris saying goodbye to their doctor.

And although he was millions of miles away, as Destiny and her crew suffered ... so did Rhaef ...

[From Destiny: Dining Hall]

Lei had slipped silently past Geoff, Wei-Li, and the Captain in the cargo bay.  They were too busy doing, whatever they were doing to notice.  She pushed the swinging doors open and felt along the wall for the light switch.  It was odd to find the room dark.

Lei flipped the switch and the lights flickered to life.  The room was exactly as Acacia had left it.  No one had been in here since Torrance Station.  It felt like entering a tomb.  Lei quickly moved towards the drawers.  Acacia always had everything perfectly organized and she found the gloves with no problem.  She grabbed two boxes and then slipped from the room.  Turning the lights back off as she left and moving quickly back towards the dining hall, still curious as to what Dake had in mind.

Lei stepped inside the cargo bay and let go of Dake's hand, moving to stand against the far wall.  She didn't much like being in here, not since Acacia left and Ren ... The room was always dark and empty.  She reached up to switch the lights on and waited for Kyoko to tell her what to do, if anything.

Kyoko led Dake over to the operating table before looking back at Lei.

"I'm gonna need gloves, tweezers, and the sterilizing kit, sweetie. Can you get those for me?"

Kyoko figured she could get some kind of anesthetic or painkiller while Lei did that.

Dake followed Kyoko and Lei through the passenger quarters and into the infirmary.  The room had been pointed out to him on his brief tour of the ship but he'd never actually been in it before.  It actually wasn't too shabby.  He'd been expecting worse, especially considering how Kale had said that his ship didn't have a Doc or anything.  Who was keeping the place so tip-top?

Dake moved to the table and sat down, trying to not think about the pain in his arm, "Just get the thing out of me and lets be done with this. he said, trying to mask the pain in his voice.

Lei nodded at Kyoko's request and went to gather the supplies she had asked for.  It had taken Lei a long time to feel okay with being in the infirmary.  It reminded her so much of the white place.  Even now she had to force herself to not think about it and just get what Kyoko requested.  She opened the cabinet and retrieved the items, moving back towards the table and setting them on the small metallic tray.

She looked at Dake then and scrunched up her nose, "Does it hurt?" she asked quietly.

Re: Infirmarizationality

Kyoko nodded to Lei, before applying a general anesthetic to the wound. Sterilized, Kyoko donned the gloves, and took a deep breath. She grabbed the pair of tweezers and looked at Dake.

"Don't move..."

With that, she took the tweezers and began pulling bullet fragments outs. Kyoko felt bad, her minimal training meant she wasn't going to be perfect with this...she just hoped she wasn't making anything worse.

When she managed to fish out the last fragment, dropping it with a plink into the metal tray by the operating table, Kyoko breathed a sigh of relief.

"Now we have to clean it, stitch it, and wrap it."

Kyoko looked to Lei.

"Can you get me the bandages, heart?"

Re: Infirmarizationality

Dake was grimacing as he looked at Lei, her tiny nose all scrunched up, asking him if it hurt.  He tried his best to keep the pain from his voice, "Nah, feels just like butterfly kisses." Dake commented but the sarcasm was thick in his voice ... as was the pain.  He grit and bared it though.  He was a man now, not some boy not matter what Kale thought.

"Just get on with it." Dake growled when Kyoko finished and started listing off the things that still needed doing.

Lei watched with interest as Kyoko removed the bullet, not looking away even once.  It was a sight that would make most little girls queasy.  Lei wasn't even phased.  Perhaps it was her curious nature ... perhaps she had seen worse before.

She cast a solemn, understanding look in Dake's direction when he spoke, looking for all the world like a seasoned veteran who knew exactly where Dake was coming from. It was an odd look on a girl so young.

She looked up when Kyoko spoke and nodded, "Okay." she said and went to fetch the bandages while Kyoko worked on cleaning the wound and stitching it up.

Kyoko paused as Wei-Li came on over the intercom. She sighed, hurriedly cleaning out Dake's wound, wrapping the bandage over the stitches. She stood back and looked at him.

"Looks like you've got work to do..."

Re: Infirmarizationality

Dake grunted as Kyoko tightened the bandage around his arm and then looked up as Wei-Li's voice filled the small room from the comm system.  The corner of his mouth tilted upwards in a smile, at least she was alright.  She was the main reason that Dake had been none too happy about being left behind.

He hopped off the table and hit the comm button with his good arm, "Roger that, Wei-Li, I'm none too fond of this rock anyhow." he said.  He released the comm button then and turned to Kyoko and Lei.

"I recommend finding something to hold on to, this'll probably be a bit bumpy." he grinned mischievously, the pain almost forgotten in the light of getting to do what he did best - fly.

Kyoko shook her head as she watched Dake exit to the bridge. Somethings never seemed to change. She glanced back at Lei.

"Hey, sweetie, why don't we go strap in somewhere? Last thing we want is for one of us to take a nasty spill..."

Re: Infirmarizationality

Lei listened to the comm, the corners of her lips turning up slightly when she heard Wei-Li's voice.  That meant that she was okay, and hopefully everyone else was as well.  She didn't like it when people went away.  In the white place nobody cared when someone died.  The kid was just there one day and gone the next.  But here ... when Ren and Acacia left the whole ship seemed sadder.  When Rhaef left she thought they might not ever recover.  She didn't want that to happen again.

She watched Dake leave and then looked at Kyoko, "They're all coming back now, right?" she said.

A few moments later the sound of a gun shot being fired echoed back through the ship.  Kyoko and Lei exchanged looks and strapped themselves in.  It was only a matter of seconds before the ship began slowly lifting beneath them and the sound of gunfire in the cargo bay increased.

Lei gripped the sides of the small bench that she and Kyoko were sitting on as she felt the ship rumbling around her.  Then she heard the gun shots.  Her eyes widened, she had learned very quickly that that was never a good sound.  Fear was bright in her eyes.

Kyoko looked down sympathetically at Lei. She wrapped an arm around the girl and pulled her into her as tightly as she could without harm, and as much as the straps would allow.

Kyoko never considered herself great with children, especially one like Lei, but everybody needed comfort.

Okay, so Kyoko also needed comfort, but it was thought that counted, right?

Re: Infirmarizationality

The crew of Destiny has finally managed to get itself back on its feet.  After a trying past few months things are starting to go back to normal.  The absence of Ren and Acacia is still felt but the ships newest members have begun to find a home on board the old freighter.  Most relationships have been mended and although there are still some unanswered questions between members of the crew life has been peaceful.

However, after a few months of excitement and trials the crew has discovered that the cash flow has come to a sputtering halt.  The crew needs a job and soon.  First rule of the black is to keep flying.  Fortunately, one of Kale's contacts managed to put him in touch with the infamous Sin Twins.  The girls are probably the most ... unpredictable of contacts, one can never be quite certain what they're getting into when dealing with them.  But one thing is for certain, the pay-out is always good.  The crew has set up a meeting with the twins in a casino on Santo to get more details about the possible job.
