Evening lady's and various gentlemen I am Ath. It is wonderful to meet you all I'm fairly new to the site overall. But I have several years worth of role-play experience. Mainly play by post and the like on other forums. A lot of the forums I've been on have slowed down immensely. As such I'm in need of some rp. I'm used to freeform and some light stat stuff. But I'm interested into getting into things like dungeons and dragons and other more complicated games despite my general scrubbiness and inability to buy rulebooks.

Welcome to RPoL.  Get to know the place, because it'll probably be a bit different from other RPG sites.  There's a lot to read in the FAQ about policies and such.  We are moderated here, so learning your way around

If you intend to play in Adult games, go ahead and apply for access now, because there is a wait after you apply before you'll be granted clearance (last I checked it was two weeks...)

Also, Community Chat is a great place to hang out and participate in discussions about all kinds of stuff.

If you intend to GM, look at the GM's help, and maybe lurk in an active game to get a feel for how things go.  (I know that's helped me quite a bit.)

If you don't know basic HTML you might want to brush up.  A bit of skill with it will be very useful to you here.

Again, Welcome!

Thanks but yeah I think getting into the games here seems the hardest part because I'm not quite sure how to join a lot of em Or ill file a request to join and I wait a few days and no response at all I'm hoping I can get into a game soon.

Yep two weeks.  Or longer, if the user is still a minor.

But that is a waiting period before a new member can apply for Adult access, so "apply now, because you'll have to wait a couple of weeks" doesn't actually work.

Hi Ath,
Some of us GMs who run less popular genres will pounce on a precious RTJ as soon as it arrives, but if you're applying to join D&D type games, many of those GMs are so spoiled by a cornucopia of applicants that they lose their manners.

It's like contacting the call-centre of a large, impersonal company, sometimes. Resign yourself to a long wait, and very little personal service afterward.

Or deal with a small, local business who values your custom. :)

What icosahedron152 said!  If you are strictly into AD&D (which for the longest time in my life stood for a type of insurance... and, yes, there's a joke in there somewhere, but I digress...) then it may be more a matter of catching the right GM from so many out there.

That said, there's a lot here to choose from.  Free-form, old-school, d20, and (how could I forget?) indie, it's all good if that's what you wanna do.  Hint:  there is a way to search games by system (and to pull up a list of what game systems are known to RPoL's engine).  You'll find a metric ____tonne of games here.

Game Proposals, Input, and Advice is also a great place to hang out and get in on the ground floor of a game by contributing your interest to its start.
