Re: OOC IV: A New Hope

I want the shiny black armor from star wars. I really do.

This morning we told my daughter that when she's not working on Sundays that she needs to come with us to church. That means that she needs to get homework done earlier.

This evening I looked at her facebook page. She makes a comment: "Apparently church is now required at my house."

Him: "Why"

Her: "No idea"

Him: "Thats stupid"

Her: "I know I used the I have homework excuse which worked but dad was like next time its required."

Him: "That is really stupid homework is more important than church"

Her: "dad was like next time you should do your homework on saturday instead of fooling around"

Him: "Does your father know what a social life oh wait I don't think so"

Her: "Apparently they are thinking that church is my social life"

Him: "That's stupid"

Her: "I know"

The fricking problem is that the only social thing she does down here is go once a week to a marching band practice. And he tried to convince her not to go to that. "You promised you wouldn't touch another musical instrument."  Gaming, telephone, and online chat with him is NOT a normal social life.

I am pissed off. This slime has gotten into her head so much so that she doesn't know what a social life is!

GRRRRRRRRRR!

Edited to add some additional lines.

There is a reason I'm opposed to organised religion.
Your relationship with "God" (or other similar arbitrary externally defined entity) should be determined on your own terms without the use of middlemen or self-contradictory books.

Re: OOC IV: A New Hope

The whole ironic point is that the only "social life" she has down here is going to a marching band practice once a week. Most of the people there are between double and triple her age. And he tried to keep her from going to that!

If she would find some other things to do, we wouldn't be making her come to church.

I think you are living in ... well, I dunno where, but not reality. Weren't you ever a kid? That's pretty much exactly what "social life" is - being obsessed with pleasing the opposite sex.

From what I've heard it seem really surreal...
But then again so did South Carolina.

Edit: Maybe I was thinking of Utah...
It was weird no matter what.

Heh.  That should be a band name.

Liara:
"You promised you wouldn't touch another musical instrument."

In all fairness, she did.  I remember that one.  It was a stupid promise, and a wholly ridiculous thing to demand, but, er, yeah.

I think most states are pretty ridiculous to the people who don't live there.

In the meantime, I'm going to steal a line from Barsaive Heroes' GM because I've been trying to figure out how to say exactly this and he did it perfectly:

Before I post again I'll need direction from the group.  I'll wait for the group to either decide what they want to do or will post if they have further questions.

Re: OOC IV: A New Hope

My character is still very injured.  According to the rules, I have to rest an hour before rolling recovery again.  I've got 2 more rocovery rolls to make, so I won't do anything for 2 hours.  If I roll well enough to be at least 1/2 healed then I plan on searching the area looking for hidden doors, treasure and anything of interest.

Since I joined in almost at the end of the game, I have no real idea why we are here.  These are the questions I have.

  1. Were we employed to find some information for a thread item or hired to save someone or something else entirely different?  What ever our goal is, what is it and have we completed it?
  2. Have we searched the entire area?
  3. Did we find any survivors?  Should we continue to look or is it pretty evident everyone is dead and further search for survivors a waste of time?
  4. Is there anything written on the walls, stones or anything that survived time's attack and might be of interest to the Throalic Great Library?

In reply to Mazdor (msg # 65):

 From my recollections:

Were we employed to find some information for a thread item or hired to save someone or something else entirely different?  What ever our goal is, what is it and have we completed it?

We were hired to go with someone to check this place out. He wandered off, we kept going because... Somethingsomethingmumblemumble. And there were some other people too, I don't know about them.

Have we searched the entire area?

More or less, we've been down here for days.

Did we find any survivors?  Should we continue to look or is it pretty evident everyone is dead and further search for survivors a waste of time?

 They're all dead Dave.

Is there anything written on the walls, stones or anything that survived time's attack and might be of interest to the Throalic Great Library?

Almost everything is smashed, torn and shredded. That said, Black found part of a journal in one house, so more might be found with an assiduous search.

Annd...have probably been waiting for some confirmation on whether you can count any Physician or Heat Food ranks on those, haven't you?  Unless Korentin or Varessa say they wouldn't, then my thinking is each could apply once.  Physician, I think, needs new wounds to treat; and Heat Food requires eating a meal, and, I think, digesting it, so more than an hour would need to pass before it could help again.  They currently both add +2, so it would be up to you if you wanted to do one test with +4 or both at +2.

quote:

Those are good questions.  OK.

  • Were we employed to find some information for a thread item or hired to save someone or something else entirely different?  What ever our goal is, what is it and have we completed it?
What Mazdor (and Aeric, Moaze, and Varessa) know is that they were dropped out of a Theran ship and landed near this cave.  Moaze was released by the Theran on condition he find a Talia Silentgrace and take care of her for a year-and-a-day; coming inside the cave, they found out these people knew Talia, but that she's missing.
So, IC, that goal is not completed; but OOC, it became irrelevant because Talia's player disappeared, like, about a month after I used her as my hook to connect the two groups. This, from a GMing standpoint, is awkward, and is why Moaze has been kept an NPC and not offered for anybody to take over.  He'll be staying behind to look for Talia, and since you want to change characters, I'd suggest Mazdor elect to stay with him.
Beyond that, the other group was here essentially to kill the Horror.  That seems to be done.

  • Have we searched the entire area?

Nnnnn...no?  Although from what you've seen of the Kaer so far, it's unlikely to have much of any use.  Throughout the kaer, everything has been thoroughly smashed to bits with a seriously inhuman thoroughness.  Mazdor hasn't seen very much of it, but what he has seen hurts his Thiefly heart; the others can easily confirm that it's at least as bad elsewhere.

  • Did we find any survivors?  Should we continue to look or is it pretty evident everyone is dead and further search for survivors a waste of time?

The Kaer was breached and empty before anybody got here; the closest things to survivors found might have been the rats.  Or arguably Lily, the ghost girl, but "survivor" seems stretching it for someone called "the ghost girl".

  • Is there anything written on the walls, stones or anything that survived time's attack and might be of interest to the Throalic Great Library?

That, of course, would require more active searching, but Tar'Deno has been attacked by something a lot more determined than time.  So far, this heavy chest built into the Throne Room floor is the first thing anybody's found that hasn't been mashed to flinders.

The Other Group (Korentin, Calypte, Liara, Amalianna) has been in the kaer for a while.  I would say that above all else, where the party as a whole is, would be... running low on food.

...And, fine, Korentin's answers were just as good and a lot more succinct, but I already wrote all this, so there.

quote:
More or less, we've been down here for days.

Weeks.  Two, at least.  But time's fuzzy underground, and Calypte's the only one who can really keep track.

quote:

I think we kept going because we wanted to prove ourselves.  Hrothgar went back to Throal; we figured if we came back with some artifacts from Tar'Deno, we'd get paid and some reputation points.  And then there were the Storm Wolves.

Yes, the storm wolves basically pushed us here once we arrived. They made it pretty obvious that we'd be dead if we didn't deal with it.

They did provide at least one deer for us, though the meat may be getting a little gamey by now. . . .

There's actually quite a lot of them.
The ones I know best were the ones used in Crete during the Greek-Turkish insurrections, but I know there's several of them in Israel, Turkey and Italy. Apparently it was something the Byzans Empire liked to do. They were also extensively used by rebels during WWII.

If you want some in the states there's the Caves of St. Louis and the DeSoto Caverns.
That's all I could find on a quick Google.

More specifically, they're among the oldest fortifications used on earth. They're most widespread in Cappadocia, which is otherwise basically indefensible. They're awesome as hell, evn wihout any sort of fictional setting.

Re: OOC IV: A New Hope

I just wanted to check in real quick and let you guys know - last and next week are being really, really busy, but I'm trying to work on an update as I have time.  Also, I am moving towards pushing things forward so that we can get to a spot to work the new players in.  Which means I'll be hopefully getting back to you guys on some of your questions so that we can get the new characters all the way ready for that. grin

If there are no objections, my next update is going to basically assume that the stuff in the chest is gathered up* and the group is ready to leave Tar'Deno.  If there is anything somebody wants to still do before you go, now is the time to speak up.

*-Despite all appearances to the contrary.  Honestly, I'm starting to see why Mountainshadow never gave you people any treasure.  Put a chest full of gold in front of you in an otherwise empty room, and suddenly everybody's too busy to pick any up. Hmph. Next time I'll do something that might interest you more.  Feathers? How do you guys feel about feathers?

If no on posts taking the gold, you can rest assured that Mazdor will ... however since I've got a new toon coming in for him, I figured one of the characters who is going to stay with the group should collect and keep the treasure for now.

Amalianna put the box under her arm and looked slightly encumbered by it.

It's a minor point - more `flavor' than anything, but the chest the gold is in isn't moving.  It's built in to the floor.  (From the descriptive standpoint, considering the thoroughness with which Tar'Deno had been torn to pieces, it had to be something that would have survived that...)

Amalianna:
And wasn't there some other stuff we left to pick up later since we wanted to dispatch the Horror before we jumped both feet in to get the bait?

All I can think of was the house Mazdor had spotted on the way in, that had looked like it had a large Light Quartz still intact in it, and quite possibly a neon sign over it blinking TRAP. (Alas, there is no <blinking> code...hehe...)

Do people want to stop and check that out on the way?
