Re: The Soup Kitchen

Looking at the wrecked vehicles, Thunderbird joins Rose in trying to get a vehicle working but has no luck. They all got pretty beat up in the series of explosions during the battle.

"I agree with the plan. I will be up scouting around to make sure the path is safe." Thunderbird says

22:50, Today: Thunderbird rolled 7 using 1d20+6. mechanic check to get a vehicle started.

Re: The Soup Kitchen

Z bops from side to side following Thunderbird. It studies what the creatures are doing. The red eye flashes against the wrecked vehicles. One of the hands become limp, several balls roll out of it and disappear inside the guts of the vehicles. Z stares at Thunderbird and breaks out in a cacophony of screeches and beeps.

23:18, Today: ZE-5 rolled 20 using 1d20+5. May as well see if I can help the group. I tried adding URL to "screeches and beeps, but the link did not seem to work.

" Z thats enough" said Ophelia worried that her friend's strange ways might cause offence. Then she turned to the big guy.

" I'll scout ahead when you are ready to move out I have some skill in that area"

Re: The Soup Kitchen

She looked wide eyed at the others that came over to see what she had done to the burned up porker vehicles,"I did not burn them up if that is what you are looking for, honest." She offered to the metal man and the strange man with feathers on his body.

Still she had a vague recollection from her plant mothers memories of Compton,"I have never been to this Compton but i remember it, she says it has lots of nice things there to trade and sell and it is safe for now."

Piling the last item they could load on the over weighted wagon. Seeing that everyone was ready to move back to the city, she loads a heavy bolt into the modified ballista she carried and took up a position to overwatch the caravan as they traveled back to that city.

Re: The Soup Kitchen

Z's eyes roll around to face Ophelia while body remains facing the vehicles, "Nought-Phelia? This platform is attempting to communicate with newly met biological organisms. Our database shows similar looking creatures communicating in non-spoken language. We sadly are not familiar with such languages. Upon voting and passing several new regulations we came to conclusion that this was the most efficient way of yielding even a negative result. As such we attempted to use archaic signals we still possess".

It hums and finally turns around, "We are unable to comprehend as to why you seem to be displeased with us. You have mentioned scouting. We possess magnification lenses. Shall we accompany you?". Z looks down to study it's legs, "Peculiar. Even with all the processing power we sometimes forget to address the bending of the joints. It is not required for our movement and used more to give impression of our normalcy. Biological organisms at times seem...inefficient", while saying Z lifts left leg and bends it at a knee.

Ophelia laughed at her friend " I was not displeased its just not the done thing to screech at someone because they resemble a bird. I remember when we first met you didn't try meowing at me though I look like a cat." she smiled " your company as always would be appreciated "

Re: The Soup Kitchen

ZE-5 manages to jump start two of the porker's motorbikes that you dug out of the rubble in front of the soup kitchen. You have more than enough fuel to get back to Compton, and the two bikes between them are powerful enough to pull the cart. Only question is, who will ride them? You will need the Mechanics skill to do so.

At the sound of motorcycle engines Bedlam rushes from the hideout, lamppost in hand. When he realizes its not more porkers, a pained expression crosses his face and he rubs his head.

"Next time, Socket, let's see about getting some higher ceilings."

Looking around at the delvers a big grin appears. "Well this is a fine and motley crew. Looks like we're all set. Ophelia, T-bird, you have scout."

"Uh.. Zee," the giant still wasn't quite sure how to read the robotic conglomerate. "Maybe you better stay with the bikes. Keep'm running proper."

"Fl... er, Rose. You seem to have more of a knack for things mechanical than your stem. How 'bout you ride shotgun on the other bike?"

"Let's see, who's left? Crinkles, you and I got the flanks. Socket, up on the wagon. Tom, how 'bout rear guard?"

"Right," the giant takes one more look at his map before folding it up and tucking it inside the ancient car part which comprises his chest armor. "Compton is thataway!"

Re: The Soup Kitchen

She looked wide eyed at the big man who somehow she knew was friends with her host plant and slowly nodded, though she was not at all sure about these new friends. She could guess that the dead bloated corpse's were the bad guy...er pigs and those still here were the good guys, was she a good girl or bad girl?.

She looked at the machine with a detached stare at the metal parts and how everything fit together into a mobile machine. Walking over she looked at the controls and went over how everything was suppose to work and she straddled the seat of the heavy machine and turned this switch to the center and took a second to find the button on the handle bars which she pressed down on. A sharp whine began as the starter pushed the machine forward a step before she let go the button.

Pausing she worked thru what she had already figured out about the motorcycle and glanced to the side to see a short lever on its left hand side..Transmission lever, so there should be a clutch near the rider. She could see the two levers under the handlebars, she pulled one back and tried the starter again. This time the engine started up and did not move, nodding to herself she began playing with the gears to see which way should be the first gear. Pulling the clutch tight she pressed down with her toe on her boot and slowly let out the clutch with a tiny bit of throttle and the bike began to roll slowly forward. Now she knew that she would have the hang of how this machine worked by the time they reached this compton.

OK, Rose and ZE-5 make a Mechanics roll DC15. Everyone else make a Perception roll. Fell free to make an in-game post describing the start of your journey to Compton, which, thanks to your masterwork map, should take around three hours.

Crinkles was excited.  Any journey was a chance to see new things and meet new people.  He was so excited and looking around trying to take in everything that he was proving a rather terrible lookout.

13:19, Today: Crinkles rolled 7 using 1d20+4. Perception.

The sound of the harsh engine seemed odd to the general lack of sounds at the kitchen, still sitting on the motorcycle seemed natural and full of promise.

Easing out she moved slowly to get the feel of this machine and was a bit pissed that the fat pig who had been riding it had not done much to keep it in good shape.

15:20, Today: Rose rolled 31 using 1d20+11. ride motorcycle/15

Re: The Soup Kitchen

Zee made a shrugging motion. It took off backpack and attached to the vehicle, next it neatly folded coat and took off hat. Both items of clothing were put carefully, almost lovingly into the backpack. Without clothes Zee looked like a skeleton made from the spheres. All were neatly stacked, attached to each other in a manner bones and muscles would have been in a human body. It effortlessly stepped over and sat on top of the motorcycle. The creature started to hum, spheres detaching themselves from the skeleton and rolling into the depths of the bike. With only partial lower torso remaining rest of the spheres started attaching themselves over the controls of the vehicle.
"All readings nominal, temperature nominal", came a voice from within the motorcycle. "Clutch check", the bike roared up, "throttle check" and moved some distance before braking hard, "brakes check".
"We believe that this vehicle can be safely delivered to our destination, proceeding".

13:26, Today: ZE-5 rolled 20 using 1d20+5. Vroom vroo.

Re: The Soup Kitchen

Ze-5 has no problems controlling his bike but Rose was born to ride!

Rose, you will get a +2 on any motorbike related rolls in future, if you want to keep your (aptly-named) hog.

The others are so absorbed in their own thoughts that you almost stumble into the dabber standing in the middle of the debris strewn road before you see him. You think he's the same one you parlayed with before the porkers came. The dabber looks disappointed that you have not noticed the two dozen well-armed dabbers lining the rooftops on either side that now reveal themselves. Even Thunderbird, flying a dozen metres up, was looking somewhere else entirely. Hands open, the dabber steps up to Bedlam.

"Good work with the porkers, I must say. Shame about the Kitchen, but maybe it's for the best. Anyway, good to see you don't have our missing comrade with you. He's worth a lot to us, he is. Any you never know when you might need a friend" continues the dabber, eying your new-found wealth.

Socket is currently in a hidey-hole deep inside the pile of booty on the cart.

Re: The Soup Kitchen

The sight of a strange man standing in the road was not a normal occurrence she guessed and wondered what the man wanted. As she listened she felt that he was trying to say something to them but she was confused, what man did they lose?, why did they not go out and find the missing man?.

"Well, i shall keep and eye out for any signs of a man who looks to be missing, after all it cant be good for someone to be missing i would think."

Re: The Soup Kitchen

The look of consternation on Bedlam's face is quickly replaced with a hearty laugh.

Bedlam's thoughts to the crew carry a mix of amused sarcasm. ~Nice work, scouts. And just because they are small, cute and fuzzy does not mean they are not dangerous.~

"Greetings, Big Tail," the giant slings the lamppost onto his back before moving forward, also open-handed, to meet the dabber. "It is always a good day when one is surrounded by... friends."

"I am particularly pleased," he continues, significantly eying the dabber cohort before returning his focus to the Big Tail. "That you recalled your pledge meet us on our way back to Compton. I would like to recognize our... friendship... with a few tokens."

"If I may?" Bedlam indicates he wants to get something from the cart.

When the Big Tail gives a nod, the giant goes back to the cart to retrieve a bulky parcel, wrapped in a singed and stained tablecloth. Bringing it forward, he sets it down in the road before the dabber and opens it. In addition to various electronic components and shiny kitchen utensils the jumbled pile includes the boss porker's flamethrower and several gas masks.

"And for you, especially..." Bedlam takes a small bundle from his belt. It clinks pleasantly in the palm of his large hand as he unties the string which binds it. Unfolding the cloth he reveals a half dozen unspent rounds from the porker gun platform, the lens of a security camera, and a small energy cell.

She blinked and wondered what her seed mother would have thought of this action of giving up part of their equipment and parts that they had recovered, Maybe these parts belong to the Missing man?, O' that could be the reason the big man was giving it back to the missing man?, how could he be missing if they were giving it to the man.? She shook her head at trying to figure out what was going on.

"Why are we giving some of our stuff to these people?." She asked in curiosity, since she was confused. She could remember from Flora that there had been a big fight with something called Porkers and she was born out of that fight but now the big man was giving some good stuff away..were they tax collectors?, she could remember vaguely about tax men, maybe so?.

Re: The Soup Kitchen

Big Tail takes Bedlam's gifts, making sure the dabbers lining the roof get a good look.

"We accept your unexpected and generous gifts with thanks, friend. Stay safe, and if you need to contact us we usually have someone watching this stretch of road, just wait over by the old fire station there and we'll find you"

Big Tail gives Bedlam and knowing wink and the dabbers melt back into the scenery. The rest of the journey to Compton is without incident.
