Re: The Sprawl Delve #4

"Greetings, Red Guard," Bedlam nods to the large rabbit. "Indeed, we are the ones who killed the cook. And reduced the porkers' significance."

The giant pauses slightly, surveying the smoking devastation of the Ripper's demise.

"Here," he says quietly. "Here we have put an end to the Ripper."

"Oh," he continues as an afterthought. "We were quite thorough. You can report to your leader there should be no further disturbances."

The hoops exchange glaces, then the leader nods at one of his subordinates. "Call this in at once"

He looks back at Bedlam, his expression unreadable. "Please remain here until we have received further instructions"

Re: The Sprawl Delve #4

She found herself listening to the badder's order with a frown. Finding that she was developing a less then trusting nature when it came down to natives living in the ruins around her.

Looking up she walked over to Bedlam and watched the leader of these badder's use their version of a cell phone. She whispers softly to Bedlam, "We risked our lives and do you want to bet they will probably claim to their bosses that they killed the monster?."

Stepping back a couple of steps she focused on absorbing what little sun light there was here and enjoying that.

~You can speak to me with your thoughts, Little Sis. I do not know how good the hearing is for these overgrown rabbits, but they have big ears.~

The giant tilts his head affectionately at the plant when she begins sunbathing.

~Got all the good swag stashed?~

With a shrug, Bedlam leaves Rose to her eccentric ways and turns back to the hoop leader. "'Call this in.' That is a curious phrase. Are you able to speak with your commanders from here? Do you have some shiny tech that does this?"

Re: The Sprawl Delve #4

One of the hoops steps away into the lee of a building and does indeed pull out a piece of shiny technology, a device that seems to shimmer in and out of existence. He starts talking quietly into the mouthpiece.

The lead hoop gives Bedlam a flat stare. "I cannot discuss operation matters with outsiders"

The radio hoop returns after a few terse exchanges, calling the captain aside for a whispered conversation. Then the captain barks out a command and the whole squad starts jogging towards the smoking ruins of the Ripper's lair, ignoring you completely.

OOc: I hid most of it in a side room under the debris that i could not take away immediately. So some of the items she thought good of she stuck in the cart and the others that might be worth something she covered up/buried?.

No, the hoops will bypass your find so long as they don't change direction.

She sends back this message, I have it buried in that small room next to the channel of sewer. Buried under the debris. It doesn't look like the hoop squad is heading that way at the moment. I put some of the better stuff in the wagon but there is still some good stuff that is buried yet.

She watches the hoops as they race in to take their finds and credit.

She turns and begins to sprint to the small room where the loot she buried is, not to worried that the others wont keep up but she hurry's before the hoops take to wondering if they have been taken for a ride.

Digging up the items she hid and shoveling them out for the others to rush back to the wagon, she rushes until there is nothing left for the hoops to steal from them.

"All Done, Lets roll out of here. Still a shame we did not have time to search the whole area for loot."

You retrieve the loot and just about manage to carry it all.

Heading back to Compton? No-one is seriously wounded, but you are all encumbered by a lot of loot. Also, you can level up :)

She ties the final rope across the wagon so the load wont shift and wipes the sweat off her face before looking around the area for any lurkers who might be watching them.

"Ok, Lets go before the hoppers come back to ask more questions."

She arms herself with her crossbow and walks off to the side to guard against bandits or other monsters interested in them.

Re: The Sprawl Delve #4

The salvage is safely secured in the handcarts, and it is time to move before the hoops or someone else comes looking. Bedlam gazes back toward the river and sighs heavily.

"Have we given them enough time? Should we go look for them?"

He glances up at the sun to measure how much daylight is left. With a nod of affirmation the giant takes out his map and makes some notes.

"Let's head downstream for an hour before turning back toward Compton. Just in case Ophelia or Arcus made it out of the river."

Re: The Sprawl Delve #4

You head downstream along the embankment, looking for signs of Arcus and Ophelia, without success. As the South River Bridge comes into view, you notice a large convoy crossing over to your side of the river. Thunderbird's keen eyes pick out hoop troopers with the crimson circle insignia of the Red Guard...

Folks, FYI Arcus has left the game due to RL issues, but Ophelia's player will soon be back with a new character.

Re: The Sprawl Delve #4

She was looking forward to getting back to Compton and being able to rest awhile, true she enjoyed wandering the ruins out here but fighting crazy monsters and having to deal with annoying powers from the ruins wore her out.

The idea of having time to tinker with her motorcycle was inviting and something she looked forward to.

She looked at the overpass along with the others in her team  and watched the hoppers troop pass heading for the ruins. "Well, there goes any more chance of loot. It looks like they are going to claim for themselves until there is nothing left, almost wish the monster was still there to welcome them into his lair."

Re: The Sprawl Delve #4

Bedlam scowls at the distant hoop movements. "Is it only hoops, T-bird, or do they have other people, too?"

"We will have to figure out some way to deal with the Red Guard. Not sure what form that will take."

The giant adds a few notes to the map before tucking it away and gazing thoughtfully down river.

~Safe travels, Arcus and Ophelia.~

Grasping the handles of his cart he grins broadly at the crew. "Alright, let's get this haul to market."

When they rest along their journey, Bedlam brings up the Red Guard situation with the crew.

"They actively recruit the people they find in the sprawl, but the only members we see are hoops. So what happens to the others?"

"There appear to be too many hoops for us to take them on through direct confrontation. And we don't really have the resources for a long term guerilla campaign. So we would need an army to counter them. What do you think of signing up in order to infiltrate their base. If the non-hoop recruits are still alive and unhappy, perhaps they could be talked into doing something against the hoops?"

She frowns at Bedlams suggestion of joining themselves to the hoops. "Not for me old man. I would most likely be killing one of them for yelling at me within a week."

As she walked alongside the wagon and kept watch at the ruins for others spying out their cart, she takes the time to use a bit of oil to lube the moving parts of her crossbow. Couldn't hurt after the time she spent being tumbled in the sewer water.

Re: The Sprawl Delve #4

You head off back to Compton, a journey of around nine hours thanks to your extensive map. Around a third of the way there, in the midst of the trashed residential lots and strip malls of the suburbs, the sun starts setting. Will you push on and travel at night or make camp? You know several likely places nearby...
