Syntari is now standing at W12, holding a wand of shield (which he has just used).  His true AC is now 22 (14), which Gwendol will not know until he sees Syntari and the tell-tale shimmering forcefield; and there is a new "Effect" - "Shield - 10 rounds".  I'll put that into Syntari's visible stats as soon as he steps into Gwendol's field of view.
Why am I being so stingy with information, you might ask?  And well you might!  Syntari thrives on misdirection (hence his choice of form), and if he can convince Gwendol that he has just used a wand of invisibility, explaining why he isn't visible to Gwendol - all the better.
Oh, and the other wand Syntari is holding?  Silent Image.  You see now, dear reader, where this is headed...

A slender humanoid figure appears briefly around the corner of the southern pillar.  A few circles - or other simple patterns, it is hard to tell - are inscribed in the air, a few phrases muttered, and suddenly a glowing shard streaks across the battlefield at the burly cleric.  His attack complete, Syntari quickly flattens himself against the pillar and tries to escape notice.

OOC:  Better to assume that whenever Syntari has cover or concealment, he is hiding.  He has a hide check modifier of +22 - let me know if you want me to roll each time (which I'm happy to do).  (In any event, when the modifier is reduced - e.g. when Syntari tries to hide after a sniping attack - I will roll.)

"You noticed - how perceptive!" the wizard chuckles, then launches into a brief incantation.  A small orb forms on his fingertips, and streaks toward the dwarf... only to splatter on the stone pillar, leaving a hissing, dripping mark on the rocky surface.  Syntari shrugs, unperturbed by the mishap - and vanishes again.

The above is what is visible to Gwendol.  It is illusory.  In actuality, Syntari moves to W16 while drawing the wand of Silent Image, then activates it to create the illusion of himself scurrying from the southern pillar to the eastern one.  The spell's area of effect includes the following 2x2 squares:  T,U/17,18; R,S/19,20; P,Q/21,22; P,Q/23,24; and O,P/25,26.

A badger suddenly enters the arena, somewhat north-east of the southern pillar. A faint halo surrounds it, a sign of its celestial origin.
Find meh thar caster will yer! Gwendol says.
The badger turns around on the spot and almost immediately points to the south.
Aha! A trick! Gwendol exclaims before setting off as fast as his stout legs can carry him. Coming round the corner he spots Syntari pressed against the pillar. This causes the warrior priest to stop and invoke the power of his goddess, bringing forth a greatsword, sheathed in flames, that strikes down on the mage although missing the intended victim.

Syntari's eyes narrow suspiciously as he recognizes his opponent's prayer.  *The dwarf who slammed down his beer tankard and issued the challenge did not have the repute of being that capable... when did that change?*

... now.  As soon as the two conjured attackers wink out of sight, Syntari snaps into action, stowing his wand, taking a quick step to get into firing position, and sending off an arrow at the cleric.  Somewhat to his surprise, the arrow actually hits, finding a weak spot in the dwarf's armor and biting deep into his vitals.
