Blackflame flies to get clear of the battle as best that he can. His job was done, to watch to see if the others were coming up his side instead of the one his mistress was on. Meanwhile the wizardess flies down and through the door to head towards where the foes are through the middle. She was going to ready a spell when she realized there was target in range and two rays shoot out from her hand as she casts. Rays of flame.

ooc: I'm afraid that is impossible. As per arena discription the castle walls are flush with the 40ft high ceiling outside the castle. Hence you cannot fly to M15.

OOC wrong, I was only 5' off ground, and you gain movement as you descend but yeah, I flew to the door, free to push door open and fly through down middle of castle. 60 movement along ground and through the door. Just because you are flying doesn't mean you have to go more than a few inches off ground and are barred from using Doors that are free to open and close.

ooc: I'm sorry I didn't check Arlessana's position, she's in M07, so Nalia has to wait back in M06. With the door closed you cannot target her. I thought you were targetting her from above.

OOC Which ever one of you is in M07 is the one getting hit for 35 damage since 20 and 16 hit touch ac of either of you. The closed door is just why I did sorching ray rather than area of effect attack lije Fireball, lightning bolt or scintillating sphere.

ooc: Your mirror image post said you have 3 images running. Two are dispelled. How come there are still 3?

Arlessana hears another spell going off and storms in to find Nalia barely injured. Thinking quickly she steps behind the girl and touches her, making her grow to double her size. The priestess cannot take another beating like before and activates her anklet of translocation, teleporting back out of the entrance. Quickly she closes the door to save herself from another wizardly assault.

Round 4: "Whoa!" Nalia exclaims as the world around her shrinks then realized the advantage it gave her. The Calishite girl hesitated for a second and waited to see the results of the scorpion's attacks before launching herself at the wizardess.

As the monstrous arachnid dispels the last mirror image, Nalia bursts forth, her large feet thundering on the ground but she stops just shy of Tarlassana's reach. Dropping her scimitar carelessly on the ground her huge hand snaps something from her belt and speaks a few words in ancient draconic before reaching out to touch her oponent. "By the blazing desert sun!" she shouts and her hand lands firmly on the wizardess' shoulder suddenly cloaking her in fires hotter than hell...

For your convenience the combust spell description:

OOC You are a 4th levle caster. Maximize means maximum damage, how are you doing 48 dmage, you are only 4th level so max is 24. Also, when Sorcerers use meta magic feats, it makes the spell a full round action to cast so you can not cast it and move (the sudden just means it doesn't require higher level spell slot).

ooc: You are right, but...

Nalia uses the "metamagic specialist" option for sorcerers from the PHB II, which sacrifices summon familiar feature for casting metamagic without time increase. Hence she casts any metamgicked spell with normal casting time.

Nalia is a fourth level caster with the "Bloodline of Fire" regional feat from the PGtF (see Calimshan region), this grants +2 effective caster level to any fire-type spell she casts. Alternatively she could have taken the Arcane Thesis feat for the combust spell and add another +2 level increase to Combust alone. And if she had chosen the "Fiery Burst" reserve feat she could even add another +1 level to fire spells which would get her to an effective caster level of 9 for the combust spell.

Last but not least Combust does 1d8 points of damage per level. 6x8=48pts.

I kindly ask you to form your concerns less accusingly, I feel like you are saying I'm too dull to apply the rules correctly.

Next fight will be a lot different. THis is second time that fire spells and summoned monsters managed to spoil things.

last message was posted from wrong character. My characters can't share what they know across regions. She had no reason to Icly expect you have a spell of that level of power. She can survive 2-3 kilgores (electric loops, scorching rays etc) and 4th level casters don't generally have 48 damage spells.

Nalia is designed as a big-bad-evil-guy buster and she can pull the sudden maximize stunt only once per day, add in that she needs to touch you she has to make a concentration roll (unless she has reach as in this case) it makes it a difficult manoever. She couldn't have pulled it off with you flying or your mirror images active, so the situation was just right to do it.
