A howl hangs in the air then becomes louder and louder as a large canine shape fades into view. Glowing red eyes and teeth that glow in the color of hot embers tell you it is a hellhound which the sun elf called to do her bidding. You gulp as you remember they can track their prey by scent. Three more howls join the first when three more canine shapes appear, though not as large and not as fiendish, they still pose a great threat to the invisible half-breed.

You just take the standard HPs from the monster manual. Btw.: Her summoned creatures get +4 to Con, that's why they have extra HPs.

OOC: Ok. I've rolled HP's on occasion when summoning, which is why I asked.

Quinlan, still benefitting from being invisible deftly avoids the fiery breath. Dropping his bow on the ground he takes a few steps closer to the wolves, while drawing his other weapons. He times his attacks carefully and thrusts his rapier forward following up with a low sweep of his axe. The wolf yelps in surprise at the sudden appearance of the half-drow before collapsing; a crimson spot growing in the sand underneath him.

OOC: You are welcome to dissmiss as many as you need to make things easier for you! ;-)
It looks like wolf 3 and the hellhound occupy the same space, also wolf 2 attacks from the same square as the dead wolf. This isn't against the rules, but there are penalties for fighting in an obstructed space that I assume would apply here.

ooc: There are no modifiers for fighting in the square of a dead body, however, summoned creatures disappear after being slain, so there is no body of it anyways ;)

The Hellhound in N31 is a typo, I meant O/30, sorry for that.

OOC: It looks like the hippogriff provokes an AoO moving up to P31, I'll roll for it and if you have another opinion we'll simply disregard it.

Quinlan makes a backwards thrust as the hippogriff closes in for the attack, drawing some blood.

He then follows up with another thrust-slash combination once more puncturing the skin of the large beast, before withdrawing a few steps among the wolves.

OOC: Ok, will try and sort out some things. Quinlan gets an AoO against both hellhound and W3 (although he can only make the one attack), he also needs to roll the trip check, followed by a trip attempt since the wolf will lose (DEX +4). After that we may proceed with Quinlans normal actions this round.

ooc: I would like to know when you get an AoO, since moving INTO a threatened square does NOT provoke an AoO. I will admit that I've not checked if they do but I think it is hardly possible since you moved out of range before they moved and all they do is move into position again. Then, please note they have a move of 50ft, which is 10 squares, thus they CAN give your rapier a wide berth to avoid AoOs. Please don't make me track each step on their way until they have repositioned themselves.

And wolves don't suffer AoOs from trip attempts since it is a natural feature (free trip attempt with successful bite) just like improved grab. So you don't get a counter trip attempt I'm afraid.

As the summoned creatures swarm around him Quinlan manages to thrust his rapier into one of the wolves. He follows up with another thrust before attempting to tumble out of range of the hippogriffs, severely wounded he moves less gracefully than he use to and ends up exposing himself for attacks from one of the wolves and the newly arrived hippogriff.

ooc: Please note you cannot return a trip attempt against a wolf's free trip, see srd below...

AoO Wolf 2: 26, damage 4. Trip strength check 22 or be tripped.

AoO Hippo2: 12, miss. Silly thing, can't hit the broad side of a barn...

Now I need to know if you are prone.

A wolf that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip the opponent (+1 check modifier) as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the wolf.

OOC: I'm sooo tripped :-)

Final position: Prone, and still in N32, full attack away! Quinlans standard action still stands (pun intended) though since it was taken before the failed tumble attempt.

Ouch indeed! I'm utterly, totally and irevocally dead. Good match, but I failed miserably at trying out any duskblade spells...

*nods* I know facing a summoner is a very difficult affair. Remember how Garath tore Aerin apart? Well, she would have dispatched of most creatures quickly, so you cannot take the same approach like this time. In your particular case your low AC was actually your 'downfall', most oponents I've faced in the arena were either mages or had a much higher AC. Anyways, it was an interesting fight where I could use this tactic for the first time. Thank you for being such a good sport :)

Yeah, I more or less wasted my preparations: should have used barkskin (for that higher AC) and my bag of tricks more (to get a flanking buddy).
