Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

From the link above:
quote:
A creature that is glued to the floor (or unable to fly) can break free by making a DC 17 Strength check or by dealing 15 points of damage to the goo with a slashing weapon. A creature trying to scrape goo off itself, or another creature assisting, does not need to make an attack roll; hitting the goo is automatic, after which the creature that hit makes a damage roll to see how much of the goo was scraped off. Once free, the creature can move (including flying) at half speed. A character capable of spellcasting who is bound by the goo must make a DC 15 Concentration check to cast a spell. The goo becomes brittle and fragile after 2d4 rounds, cracking apart and losing its effectiveness. An application of universal solvent to a stuck creature dissolves the alchemical goo immediately.

In reply to Quinlan Fairfellow (msg #59):

ok so how does teleporting work? can you teleport out without still being stuck or does the goo travel with you? sorry if the info is in the description but I have limited access right now while at work on the road.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

From rules of the game: All about movement part 2 (WoTC website)
quote:
Draw a Weapon: Use this action to draw out a sheathed weapon or other item that your DM agrees is reasonably weaponlike and stored in a holster or other convenient place where you can grab it and pull it out quickly. This does not provoke attacks of opportunity and it does not count as movement for you. If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or more, you can draw a weapon as part of your movement. That is, you can use a move action to move up to your speed and also draw a weapon as part of that move action. If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or more and you don't move, you still have to use a move action to draw a weapon. The rule reflects the flow of time in the game and the relative ease of drawing a weapon if you have even a modicum of fighting ability. Note that this rule applies only to drawing weapons and not to move actions in general.

I'd say the tanglefoot bag, and other splash weapons are reasonably weaponlike to fit the description above (i.e. you need an attack roll to use them and they have no other uses).

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

Teleport does not require a somatic component and works fine, see however the DC15 concentration check needed to successfully cast the spell. The goo stays behind and the teleportee is free and no longer entangled.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

Elidin has a magic item that he can activate as a swift action, no concentration check needed in this case.

On the move vs. free action to draw the bag: I would like to wait for the outcome of the discussion in the DMLounge. Perhaps DM BadCatMan has different aspect to share.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

Elidin cursed as the sticky goo from the bag exploded all over him sticking to his spot.
"So, you have a few tricks up your sleeve don't you. Well I have a few," Elidin said as he activated the magic in the golden anklet he wore, the Shaman blinking out of the goo and appearing right in front of Quinlan."of my own!" Elidin said as he appeared in front of the drow, his greatsword cutting across his chest.

ooc: Quinlan, please note the pincer, last round, did deal +2points of cold damage as per Elidin's shaman aura. I forgot it had moved into the 30ft radius.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

Quinlan isn't able to react fast enough when Elidin suddenly appears right in front of him, the greatsword making a terrible wound. Still he manages keep his wits about him well enough to duck as the magically conjured fiery projectile whizzes past and slams into the wall of the arena, sending sparks everywhere. The vermin throws itself forward once more, pincers snapping and Quinlan in his weakened state is unable to wriggle free of the strangling hold. Things had suddenly taken a turn for the worse!

OOC: Grappled! Go ahead with vermin actions related to this.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

With its prey struggling but this time not escaping, the arachnid pulled the half-drow towards him and began to squeeze the life out of Quinlan...

Constrict damage: 3pts. / Quinlan in B10 now.

SRD:
A successful hold does not deal any extra damage unless the creature also has the constrict  special attack. If the creature does not constrict, each successful grapple check it makes during successive rounds automatically deals the damage indicated for the attack that established the hold. Otherwise, it deals constriction damage as well (the amount is given in the creature’s descriptive text).

When a creature gets a hold after an improved grab attack, it pulls the opponent into its space. This act does not provoke attacks of opportunity. It can even move (possibly carrying away the opponent), provided it can drag the opponent’s weight.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

OOC: 29 points of damage? You could have sneezed in my general direction to bring me down :-) ...1HP left

Quinlan, finally cornered is quickly consumed by the flames, his body disappearing from the arena even before the full effect of the spell is reached.

OOC: Very tough match, as expected. You played it smart, and the vermin is really useful as a "pointer" with its tremorsence. Both sides got some dismal rolls, which probably evened out. In this arena I didn't think I'd stand much of a chance, and sadly I was right... :-)

Yes Quin, it was a very tough match. We wouldn't have had a chance in the tunnels, it would have taken way too long, the spells would have run out before we got to use them. And I was right about your ability to dodge all my KFBs, without the scorpion we wouldn't have stood a chance to get near you.

Thank you for the challenge :)

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

Nalia would need a ranged spell that doesn't allow a reflex save but she's designed to soften up the big targets at a distance then deliver the coup de grace with her combust spell once they enter melee. You can't have everything and in a duel it becomes quite apparent.
