ooc: Depends on which direction you come from. But he can try, can't he?

edit: I just realized you used two move actions during your first preparation round PLUS a standard action. You can draw a weapon as a free action only if you actually move (5ft or more) or if you have the quickdraw feat. Does this mean you have the feat?/edit

In reply to Nalia (msg #15): no, and never thought of it that way either. Can't I draw the bow as soon as I start moving then?

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

Elidin reached to his belt and drew out a wand, activating the power stoed inside. The Dragon Shaman could feel his muscles growing from the increased strength. All the while Elidin listened intently, trying to hear the slightest footstep to give him an idea of the direction his opponent was coming from.

Nalia looked at Elidin as he used the wand and cast a spell of her own, nothing too fancy but useful nonetheless. She whispered something into his ear, then she held out a hand for him to give the wand back to her.

ooc: Drawing a potion is a move action (unless you have a masterwork potion belt in your inventory which allows you to draw the potion like a weapon during movement). Drinking the potion is still a standard action.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

Nalia took the wand and kept it in her hand while she whispered something back at Elidin. Then she quickly rounded the pillar and activated the amulet that hung from her slender neck. The amber colored stone glowed softly and a few feet away a large scorpion shimmered into being. Immediately its sensitive legs registered the slightest tremor coming from its mistress and her ally, but also of Quinlan. Having picked up the location of its prey the arachnid scuttled off to the right and attacked something invisible behind the pillar there. However, the pincer didn't connect. With Quinlan not moving the arachnid froze in anticipation, waiting for the slightest vibration in the ground.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

And what actions did Quinlan take for the scorpion to detect him? On my round, if I make any type of movement, yes, but not while actively trying to stay hidden. Scorpio will have to wait a round longer...

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

ooc: It doesn't matter what actions you took or didn't take.

SRD:
Tremorsense

A creature with tremorsense automatically senses the location of anything that is in contact with the ground and within range. Aquatic creatures with tremorsense can also sense the location of creatures moving through water.

If no straight path exists through the ground from the creature to those that it’s sensing, then the range defines the maximum distance of the shortest indirect path. It must itself be in contact with the ground, and the creatures must be moving.

As long as the other creatures are taking physical actions, including casting spells with somatic components, they’re considered moving; they don’t have to move from place to place for a creature with tremorsense to detect them.

I would say this indicates you are being detected.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

Yes, once I take action. I act before the vermin and would like to keep that advantage. It comes after existence after my actions, which is why I don't think it can find me this early. There are simply no actions for it to detect! Or?

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

Well, I wouldn't exactly say you are moving in stop-motion, but alas. The scorpio stays near Nalia. Go ahead and shoot us.

I've edited my post. The scorpio sits at Nalia's side and readied an action. Thus whenever Quinlan decides to do as much as picking his nose, the scorpio is going after him.

Interestingly the scorpion acts immediately BEFORE the action takes place, kind of a conundrum because in reality he cannot sense the tremor before you act but a readied action takes place immediately before you have the triggering action. Aint DnD rules funny? ;)

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

OOC: The failings of the turn based system are painfully obvious in arena fighting.

Quinlan starts the weaving of a spell, and when the large vermin suddenly appears rushing towards him simply unleashes the spell on the mindless creature before tumbling out of range of its pincers.

Round 3:
  [Free]
[Move] After casting spell, Tumble (28) to K25, no AoO
[Standard] Cast Ray of Enfeeblement (14), STR reduction 8

Status:
  Initiative: 24

  Damage Taken: 0
  Damage Dealt: 0

Effects:
+2 Natural AC, 40 mins
Elixir of sneaking: +10 to move silent checks, 1 hour

Nalia saw the magic hit the arachnid and was instantly glad she had chosen to call the creature early in the fight. "Elidin, go across de bridge and cut of his retreat!" she called out, preparing herself to engage the elusive rogue together with the scorpion.

Re: Quinlan vs. Elidin and Nalia

OOC: Elidin, your movement is very high; have you magically enhanced your speed? Normally Run can only be done in a straight line, and any DEX bonus to AC is lost (until the start of your next round).
