Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

OOC: Mathematically I know it's pointless, but I'm rolling in RoA 1 from now on. :)

Ayesha ducked and weaved away from the blows, then hobbled swiftly away, ducking behind a pillar for shelter. She leaned against it for moment, panting with the effort, just trying to catch her breath. There was a better way to do that though, and she activated the magic of her belt, feeling warm healing magic flood through her battered bones. Finally she stole a quick nip from her hip flask, and felt much better still.

Round 12:
[Move] Tumble 16, just barely a success -> move to F11
[Standard] Activate healing belt, 3 charges, heal 27 hp
  [Free] Drink

  Damage Dealt:   11

Effects:

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

Taking a roundabout route, Gurgun once more goes on the offensive. Ayesha has more lives than cats. The mask fits you well, girl he says before attempting a sweeping blow with the quarterstaff that Ayesha ducks under.

Round 12:
  [Free]
  [Move] Move to F12
  [Standard] Attack (22) miss

Status:
  Initiative: 11
  AC (Touch AC): 20 (19)

  Damage Taken:  11
  Damage Dealt:  10 (37)

Effects:

Final position: F12

OOC: Switching dice-rollers hasn't improved my luck. :(

"Meow!" Ayesha snarled, and swung the end of her staff for Gurgun's head. That missed, and the other end only collided with her shin, provoked a catty hiss of irritation.

Round 12:
[Full] Flurry, quarterstaff, attack 17 and 6 (rolled a 1)

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

She was on her back again. This was getting to be bad habit, but at least she managed to duck and roll away from the hobgoblin's attacks. She jumped to her feet again, taking less care than before, and swung her staff like a sword at Gurgun's head - and missed, predictably.

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

Ayesha was ready for that stunning strike this time, and gritted her teeth and bore it with stubborn will. She poured all that into a fist and punched hard at his face - his head twisted aside and she skimmed past his jaw.

Angry, she slammed the butt of her staff down on his foot. "Gotcha!"

  Fort save 27, rolled a 20, success
Round 14:
  [Full] Flurry
#1: stunning fist, attack 19, miss
         #2: staff attack 24, hits! damage 3 (rolled a 1, big surprise)

Status:
  Initiative: 17
  AC (Touch AC): 23 (22)

  Damage Taken:   37, healed 27 = 15
  Damage Dealt:   14

Effects:
  Dodge: +1 dodge AC
  Owl's Wisdom, +4 Wisdom
  Stunning Fist: -4 uses

Final Position: F11

OOC: There's a mistake in RoA 1 dice-roller, I accidentally declared a stun on the quarterstaff, which was unintended and impossible. Unfortunately. :(

OOC: Then you "only" take the 11 damage from FoB2... your turn!
This is an extremely tough match, mostly because of the monks high touch ac, coupled with low damage output. Ayesha is a tough nut to crack, but just like Gurgun she lacks high damage attacks.

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

OOC: And I have the higher AC compared to your attack roll, yet I'm getting hurt more. :(

Banning Grapple has made this more interesting though, as we're both need to use our other abilities (though often complained about, Grapple does seem to be a very powerful tactic), though you have Improved Trip and I don't. But the pure Monk is definitely a class that needs a party to actually finish things off for them.

This is a lot like the really long fights in the old kung fu movies, where people hit and kick each other for ages before finally landing a knockout. Its also close to being realistic - I was kicked in stomach and chest repeatedly for 10 minutes in my black belt grading, though I was in a constant state of Stunned. :(

***

Ayesha withstood the next attack on her legs, but she was sure to be bruised and battered tonight. Maybe Walter could make her feel better. There was a voice from the crowd, and she replied "Yes! Shoot fire at him or something!"

She returned with a quick one-two strike of her staff, but again she could barely lay hand or stick on him. Was he really that good, or was she really that poor?

Round 15:

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

OOC: Very much Kung-Fu. Still, the rules leave much to desire when it comes to unarmed combat: throws and locks are especially lacking.

Panting slightly now, Gurgun extends his left hand in the shape of a spearhead and strikes, palm up, towards the throat of Ayesha hoping to stun her. She slaps away the blow and dodges the follow up sweep of the quarterstaff.

Round 16:

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

OOC: I think you should be at 14 damage, not 13. You were at 11, then I did 3, so 14. Now 19. :D

Ayesha wondered if she should have been drunker going in to this fight after all. Only now, after a good minute and a half of running around and around, getting beat up, knocked over, stunned senseless, her fortunes finally seemed to be turning. It was the energy and excitement of battle finally kicking in. Maybe she was finally getting numb to the pain, her muscles stretched, going all floppy and loose. Hence why she could have been more inebriated.

She thrust her staff around, a horizontal bar to fend off Gurgun's attacks, then she whipped it right and left. The second got through his defenses and impacted his arm hard. "Ha!" she cried, triumphant, then backed off before she got too cocky about it.

Round 16:

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

Gurgun grinned through the pain as the staff hit; she over-extended just as he had expected and left her side exposed. His right leg spun around before kicking Ayesha hard in the kidney.

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

OOC: I moved last round, so you'd have had to have moved to. I presume F10.
How many uses of Stunning Fist have you got left? You seem to be using quite a lot of them.

Pain shot through her already battered body. She managed to stay in control of it, but she was still in bad shape. Ducking and turning, she skipped away, working a potion of her belt and sipping its contents. It seemed to be a dud though.

She turned around, facing Gurgun once more.

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

It had been her one chance to get him off guard, just enough for her to get a strike in. She pulled her fist back, then launched it forwards at his face - and he cocked his head to the side and her fist went whizzing past his ear.

This was really not a good day.

She scampered.

I have rolled some fantastic numbers this fight: 2 crits, one more 20 when confirming, 1 crit threat, and a ton of hight rolls. I don't think it reflects the rather small difference between the two.

She didn't even see the next hit when it came, only dimly remembered the effects of it later. She was swaying, limp, barely able to move. She did see the next one, and that was the last she saw for quite a while.

OOC: Fortitude 14, fail. Takes 14 damage, knocked unconscious

Yeah, absolutely unbelievable rolls. :( Well, you win. You were stronger by a bit, but I'm glad I managed to get a few blows in and last this long.

Some day, I'm going to see what my average attack roll was here.
