Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

She glared across the arena at the hobgoblin, the memories of her earlier defeat burning hotly in her mind. Half because it had mainly been her own stupid fault. The Oghmyte monk was good; she'd underestimated him.

She pulled the cat-mask over her face, trying not to feel too silly about it. A snake-mask would be better, snakes were fierce and mean. She brandished her staff as well, but it would not be her primary weapon in this.

Finding her potions and bottles, she began glugging them down, potion, potion, a flask of spirits, until she began to feel light-headed, beginning to sway and go all rubbery. She'd bounce better that way. And she was invisible. Cool!

"Now we'll have a real fight, keg-breaker!" she called, her voice emanating from some invisible point, letters slurring. "You're no match for my Ssnake Sstyle!" With staff in her left hand, she formed her right arm in the shape of a rearing snake, with a finger-jab strike. The snake wobbled uncertainly from side to side.

Then she faded from sight as the invisibility took hold. "And I'm a ninja too!"

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

Gurgun listened bewildered to the antics of Ayesha. Among the children of the Passive Voice, that kind of behavior in the dojo would be rewarded with latrin duty for a week. Not to mention a good whopping by the Sensei. Turning his attention inward the hobgoblin concentrated on his breathing; slowing it down and focusing his ki. Ayesha's taunting had an effect though; Gurgun was slow to start.

Prep Round 1:
[Free]Assign dodge to Ayesha (+1 AC)

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

OOC: The map details say that the sand gives a +4 bonus to Move Silently, which I've included below.

Such behaviour earned the same in the Cloisters of St Uzurr as well. It didn't stop her proclaiming herself the Monkey King on top of the latrines.

She set off, carefully now, getting into position.

Round 1:
  [Move] Move Silently 18

Status:
  Initiative: 17
  AC (Touch AC): 23 (22)

  Damage Taken:   0
  Damage Dealt:   0

Effects:
  Dodge: +1 dodge AC
  Owl's Wisdom, +4 Wisdom
  Invisible

Final Position: **

OOC: How tall are the pillars: 10', 20'?

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

OOC: It's not said here:
http://www.madsloth.com/middle/closequarters.htm
However, if the damage to break a pillar is 1000 hp, and 250 hp corresponds to 25 cubic feet, then 1000 hp should correspond to the volume of the entire pillar, so 100 cubic feet. Which is a 5ft tall section. Ergo, a pillar should be 5ft high. Well, that's just one section.

If so, in that case you'd probably expect climbing to be easier, since the top edge is usually in reach.

I can't remember what we normally rule it as. 10ft high seems high enough.

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

Gurgun sets off at his unhuman pace, aiming for the central pillar. With a mighty leap he jumps up and gets his arms and torso just over top of the pillar, but is unable to get a good enough hold to heave himself up and is left hanging there.

Round 1:
  [Free]
  [Move]Run + jump (24) cleared 6' (+8' vertical reach)
  [Standard] climb DC10 (5) fail

Status:
  Initiative: 11
  AC (Touch AC): 20 (19)

  Damage Taken:  0
  Damage Dealt:  0

Effects:

Final position: I09, almost on top of pillar

Re: Ayesha vs Gurgun in Close Quarters, Take 2

OOC: Since you're climbing, you lose Dex to AC, though that should hit anyway. I also assume you're dangling into J9. I should be able to charge that square.

Ayesha stared incredulously as the hobgoblin made his run and leap at the pillar, and now dangling off it. He must know Monkey Style, she decided. She didn't know what he was up to, and she expected some Monkey-style trickery, but still, she had no better opportunity than this.

She turned and pelted across the sand, stepping side to side in a faintly weaving path, like a snake slithering towards its prey. Then she leaped, twisting right in the air to fling her left shin into the hobgoblin's exposed back. "Ha!" she kihaped, flashing into view.

With her right, she skipped off the pillar, then dashed out of sight.

Round 2:
[Full] Charge Attack +2, Invisible +2, from G3 into I8
           Jump 18, vertical reach 12ft
           Attack 21, Damage 8
[Free] Cobra Straps: move away from target after an unarmed charge
5ft step into... Hide 12, Move Silently (assuming -5, with that +4) 14

Status:
  Initiative: 17
AC (Touch AC): 23 (22) -2 for Charge

  Damage Taken:   0
  Damage Dealt:   8

Effects:
  Dodge: +1 dodge AC
  Owl's Wisdom, +4 Wisdom

Final Position: ** - Hiding
