Quinlan Fairfellow Vs Renaldi of Blades

Renaldi starts in "A", Quinlan starts in "B".

    * Points of Interest The arena boundaries are the outer walls, 30' above ground level, and 10' below ground level.
    * There is a transparent wall of force ceiling 30' above ground level.
    * One combatant starts at position A, the other at B.
    * The ground consists of rough marble (hardness 10, hp 10 per cubic foot (or 20 hp per inch over a 5 ft by 5 ft square) with a 6 inch deep layer of sand on top. The sand increases the hardness of the stone by +5, but you can scoop all of the sand out of a 5 ft by 5 ft area with a full round action (which prompts an AOO).
    * The sand is fine-grained and white, and does not impede movement. Walking on it grants a +4 circumstance bonus to Move Silently checks. The sand is too fine and light to be used as a weapon.
    * The walls are made of rough marble, and are 30 ft high. Climbing the side of a wall is DC 20.
    * The pillars are also made of rough marble. They are approximately 5 ft in diameter, and a 5 ft tall section of a pillar is 100 cubic feet. However, you can bring a pillar down by narrowing your focus a bit. The minimum damage you need to deal to bring a pillar down is 25 cubic feet, or 250 damage.
    * Breaking a pillar with sudden force is a STR check (Hardness 10, Hit Points 1000, stone, one piece: DC 30.
    * Climbing the side of a pillar is DC 20. When you can reach the top edge of a pillar, it is DC 10.
    * The top of the pillars are flat-topped and rough, and make good standing platforms.
    * Diagonal movement between the central pillars offers enough space for Large creatures to move unimpeded, and Huge and Gargantuan creates to move while squeezed.

Enjoy your fight. Hajimé!

Re: Quinlan Fairfellow Vs Renaldi of Blades

Quinlan moves swiftly forward, yet makes very little sound. He picks up the position of his opponent, but continues on until he gains cover behind a pillar before sending forth a ray of cold that hits true and entangles his foe.

Round 1:
  [Free] Listen (11), Spot (19)
  [Move]Move silently (17) to L06, Hide (12)
[Standard] Cast ray of frost (29) hit, deals 1 damage and entangled for 2 rounds (using one charge of Bracers of the entangled blast)

OOC: Since I have cover and can hide, I guess you need to beat the spot DC 12 not to add the sneak attack damage.

OOC: Met your spot, so no sneak attack damage.  But about the bracers... a little details please. NM, I found the item.

Renaldi was caught with the spell and immediately felt something close in around him.  He quickly moved to a place of hiding, making sure that his opponent would have to close.

Re: Quinlan Fairfellow Vs Renaldi of Blades

Entangled: The character is ensnared. Being entangled impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a -2 penalty on all attack rolls and a -4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a Concentration check (DC 15 + the spell’s level) or lose the spell.

Did the -4 dex go into your rolls and AC calculations?

Re: Quinlan Fairfellow Vs Renaldi of Blades

OOC: Yes.  I have this particular point on my sheet at 27 without dodge.  With Dodge target selected that's 28 normally, -4 dex is a -2 adjustment.

Re: Quinlan Fairfellow Vs Renaldi of Blades

Quinlan notes the superior skill and the damage dealt by the partly deflected swing. You surely live up to your name, Renaldi of Blades, and I won't last long in your company unless I do this!. Quinlan backflips once more, this time ending it with a somersault (for variety), but instead of firing another arrow Quinlan drops the bow mid-air and draws his rapier. His other hand is busy with the making of a spell, and a ray of coruscating light jets forth striking Renaldi squarely in the chest.

The nimble half-drow noted how the swing that had surprised him last now was somewhat easier to avoid. Making a pirouette he reached for the handle of his small axe and with a quick high thrust - low swing combination was able to penetrate Renaldis defences and draw blood.

Re: Quinlan Fairfellow Vs Renaldi of Blades

Renaldi was struck, and knew he had limited ability to fight back for the moment.  It was time to take a more defensive stance in his fighting, hope for another opening, another chance.  He took his time and made his attack as he could, looking for any opening he could find.  However, once again he got close but was unable to make solid contact.

Quinlan notices Renaldi taking a defensive stance and the near impossible task of trying to penetrate those defences. He gives it a go none the less, muttering a prayer to Tymora as he does so. He comes close, but scraping across armor and slicing a piece of cloth does little good when it comes to win a fight.

Quinlan staggers from the vicious cuts that has him nearly on his knees. Rolling backwards to get out of harms way he is able to recover somewhat, and dropping his axe the half-drow gets a hand free to once more send forth a magically enhanced ray of cold that ensnares Renaldi in a cold grip.
