Re: Zar'Da vs Cathain

Cathain turned to see the drow-kin rushing in heedlessly and reacted like she had been trained: The chain swung high and smashed into his shoulder before being withdrawn immediately. The shaman was too skilled for her armor though and his blade bit her deep again. Pain shot through. Cathain smiled and shot her chain out... missing by far again.

Re: Zar'Da vs Cathain

OOC: So, according to a discussion on the ROA:OOC board Darkvision allows me to see people hiding in shadow, so if that is what you are using to hide then do I get some kind of bonus to see you?

Zar'Da growled as he scanned the surrounding area for the slippery woman. Not seeing or hearing her the drow drew out a potion and gulped it down, a few minor wounds healing completely and the bleeding stopped on the others.

  Damage Dealt:  21

Effects:
 - Damage reduction 3/- (taken 6/30pts)

ooc: Basically you are right, one needs concealment for hiding and when darkvision negates shadows it would also mean you cannot hide. However, Cathain has the 'Dark' template which says:

Full Hide In Plain Sight [Hide In Plain Sight (Su): Can use the Hide skill while being observed and while lacking cover or concealment, except in
natural daylight, the area of a daylight spell, or similar magical light.]

Thus she can hide even before darkvision.

Re: Zar'Da vs Cathain

ooc: I wish I could see a chance for Cathain otherwise. Your hit her on a 6 or 7 on the D20 and deal heavy damage and you can switch to a healing aura when you're low on HPs. Cathain missed both of her regular attacks, she roll abysmal for healing and whenever she gets into your reach she's bound to be hit again. She's got two levels of rogue and I didn't roll overly good for her hitpoints either. So two more hits from you and she's out. In other words: I can give up if I don't enlarge her.

I give up. Zar'Da wins the match by surrender.

Re: Zar'Da vs Cathain

ooc: See it this way, Zar'Da took a potion to get stronger, Cathain takes it to improve leverage and reach. But it has a downside too: It lowers her AC by two, your's comes without a negative side-effect. *shrugs*

Cathain moved from her place of rest to face her oponent once again. This time the heavy chain managed to shoot over the alter and slammed into the armor of Zar'Da, impacting harshly.

Re: Zar'Da vs Cathain

OOC: I don't know what you're worried about, another hit like that and I'm done. Oh, and you're letting your Nalia show ;)

Zar'Da's eyes went wide as the enlarged woman came around the corner and then let out a loud yelp as the spiked chain ripped through his breastplate and sank into his midsection, the pull back ripping flesh and causing blood to spray over the alter. The Shaman quickly retreated, limping around the furthest wall he could find. Reaching inside himself Zar'Da activated one of his many gifts, the glowing red aura changing to a warm bluish, the bleeding beginning to subside slowly.

Re: Zar'Da vs Cathain

OOC: Sorry for the stall, been real busy as of late.

Zar'Da peaked around the corner and saw where the large woman was. Leaning against the wall the drow took a deep breath and activated the golden anklet he wore under his boot, the world warping around him. When the effect wore off the drow was standing directly in front of Cathain, his sword quickly making a deadly cross cut.

Re: Zar'Da vs Cathain

Phew, that was close. I might have been able to take one more hit but the next would have taken me out, too and you practically cannot miss Cathain's AC. Your damage output surprised me: 20pts the first round almost had me running, actually they did. Cathain's armor is her hiding skill, weapon reach and spring attack feat. If those don't work, she's toast quickly. I didn't want to enlarge Cathain but given your strength and damage output any attempts at tripping you while not enlarged, would have been futile and exercises in self-disarming.

Great fight! :D

Re: Zar'Da vs Cathain

Indeed :)

This match was less about XPs than about learning more about Cathain's weaknesses and how to get around them. She doesn't have that many HPs, first level rogue and just average rolls for fighter+frail flaw. She doesn't have that high an AC like Arlessana either, no endless means to heal herself. Facing an oponent with such high damage output and so good attack rolls was a real challenge. Thank you :)
