Re: Take vs. Nalia

Sigh. I thought the scorpion had the benefit of cover? Is he also unreachable? I can't be bothered to check the DMG for this so if this is the case, just disregard Urufu's attack and carry on.

Re: Take vs. Nalia

ooc: The point is the scorpion could have attacked Urufu last round and with the thought of columns not allowing diagonal movement, I've abstained from attacking the dog. That was my line of thinking and I was surprised you seemed to think differently. Sorry for the confusion. Anyways: Urufu doesn't need to bother tripping vs. the scorpion, it's got +12 to the check (Strength, Size, 6-legs) unless it's higher than 13.

Nalia thought hard on what to do, it was difficult for her to actually touch the giant - or his dog and she could not cast another spell without dispelling the one loaded in her hand. Sighing she decided to take her chances and moved west until she had a clear view of the alter. One eye trained on the arachnid she waited until it changed position to try from a different angle [L/M 5/6] then released the spell she held in her memory. Again a fireball blossomed in the arena, right above the alter engulfing everyone within the stone circle.

Re: Take vs. Nalia

This time they saw the spell being cast. Take, despite his bulk, manages to avoid the blast altogether, thus saving the casting of his spell. Urufu manages to avoid the worst of it, but the poor dog succumbs of yet more burns. Take knows the dog will be waiting for him, fully healed, once this battle is over. Yet there is a fury burning inside him, and the scorpion will soon feel it.

My size increase puts me in range of scorpios claws; you can take your readied action from last round, which may change my actions, and a new set of actions this round.

Re: Take vs. Nalia

OOC: Not sure if the dog is enlarged or not, but assume it is since the damage it took didn't cause it to make a concentration check.

Suddenly realizing Urufu is still breathing, Take quickly bends down and touches it while activating the last charge of the day of his enchanted belt. The dog regains some of its strength and gets up on wobbly legs before following its master out of the stone circle.

Re: Take vs. Nalia

The moving boulder called Take left the stone circle and the scorpion reflexively attempted to snap his claw at him grabbing hold of the giant's ankle, struggling to keep him where he was... not succeeding.

AoO: 20. Damage 6pts. Improved grab start grapple OGC 29. If not successful take 8pts constriction damage and be held.

Seeing his prey getting away the scorpion followed his target and snapped at the giant's legs once again, managing to cut them but not holding him down.

Meanwhile Nalia realized she could not win this way and changed tactics. She activated the magic in her cloak again and vanished from sight, her steps could be heard quickly moving south.

Round 10:
  [free] Drop wand
[Standard] Use vanishing cloak, last charge, and turn invisible.
[Swift] use one charge from sandals of sprinting
[Move] to ??, draw wand as part of movement.

Re: Take vs. Nalia

OOC: I'm not so sure. You'd have to ask DM Annihilator, but I doubt anyone pays too much attention to that sort of thing. I mean, I never thought of it before, and I've played an enlarged, invisible duergar.

There's nothing about this in the FAQ, Ask Wizards / Sage Advice or Rules of the Game. So I went looking for similar spells. Invisibility and Telekinesis have similar rules. The latter, in a roundabout way, has affected creatures and objects determined by the same weight capacity.

Consider Invisibility, and suppose weight is not a restriction for creatures, only for objects, and suppose it was cast on a living creature above the weight limit. Okay. Now, let's try it again on the same creature, but now it's dead. A dead creature counts as an object, and it should have the same weight, but now the invisibility spell doesn't work? This seems unlikely.

Scientifically speaking, the issue has to be one of magical energy versus the mass of the target. So, I would have to say creatures follow the same weight restrictions.

But this is just my interpretation, and I'm still rather confused about it. Well, it is near midnight. I'll see what I think next time.

Re: Take vs. Nalia

Take gets an AoO on the approaching scorpion. (20), damage 21

As the scorpion approaches Take thrusts his spear into it, damaging it seriously. The vermin still manages to cut him again with its claws, but now the monk has had it with the oversized spider-kin and grabs hold of it with a powerful arm and promptly crushes the life out of it. Tossing the twitching, broken scorpion to the side Take now moves in the direction he believes he heard the sorceress run. Urufu barks as he is able to pick up her scent.

Re: Take vs. Nalia

OOC: Why not? I haven't even moved into the creatures space. It died from the initial grapple check (the hold), we haven't gone through all of the steps of the initiate grapple yet.

What I mean is that initiating the grapple is a standard action. I therefore still have a move action.

Re: Take vs. Nalia

Nalia scowled invisibly at the fast and annoyingly persistant attacks of the couple but she knew help was on the way. A celestial hippogriff with a shiny silvery coat of fur and blinding white wings appeared in Take's back and began rending his shoulders and neck with claws and beak. Meanwhile Nalia, still hidden from sight, activated the wand again...

No need, I'm done for. Well fought game with a lot of twists and turns. I had no luck with the attack rolls, but fared better elsewhere. As usual it is very, very, difficult to fight a full caster, but all in all I think I did quite well.

Re: Take vs. Nalia

You fought extremely well but given the very unexpected twist on the combust spell there was indeed a big change in tactics required for me. Though I did not go my typical route this time AND I was trying to avoid summoning the scorpion.

On a side note: Nalia isn't a full caster, she's a battle sorceress: Less spells though full level progression and cleric bab. But of course she's no match for a full grappler with reach and unbeatable ogc, your bonuses are so high she'd be unable to get away unless for her anklets and that works twice only. I wish I could do a fight without having to worry about grappling, that seems to have become the most common attack as of late.

I'm looking for a nice one-on-one duel with her scimitar...
