ooc: Valas, I'm sorry but during the prep-rounds you cannot leave the colored area. Only after the first round of combat has begun can you leave the area or start any attacks on your oponent. Please state a different final position, thank you.

Penny heard the gong and sprinted off to the west, easily jumping across a gap but catching her breath when the wood under her feet shook from her landing. "I have to eliminate him quickly." the tiefling thought. She lifted her bow and let go of the arrow... which embarrasingly fell right off the string and landed on the bridge.

Valas smiled as the arrow was shot, he shook his head slightly and then began to move his hands quickly. He was calling forth the arcane magic that coursed through his veins, he then points at the target and a ball of flame appears. It starts to roll near the dreadful lady...."Will fire hurt her? oh oh,....I hope so.

"Yikes!" the tiefling let out when the flaming ball suddenly appeared next to her. Luckily she was able to dodge most of the bubble and the little heat that was left singed her equipment but didn't injure her - one of the benefits of her heritage.

Penny wasn't happy about the sphere but she wasn't very much impressed either, swiftly she moved west and drew another arrow. This time the missile struck true.

Penny moved 40ft last round, with your ball moving 30ft/rd I don't think it can reach her, furthermore Grease has short range only, a 5th caster can deliver it a maximum of 40ft distant. That would be row 16 for the center of the spell.

Penny saw the flaming ball coming after her but being too slow, it seemed fate was on her side - for now. She realized Valas had moved too and raised her bow to fire another arrow, unfortunately the young drow's protection turned the missile aside. "Beshaba's luck!" the tiefling commented and decided to take her chances with the portals. Moving swiftly she stepped into the one to her left... and came out of the one to her right.

Valas frowned as he realized he did not have many far reaching spells. He would have to worry about that later. He shook his head and took out his spear, then cast a quick spell. He figured it was worth a a shot.

ooc: Um... have you checked the range of your spear? A shortspear has a 20ft increment, reaching a maximum of 60ft. Penny's composite longbow has a range increment of 110ft, so 330ft max.

OOC:Yes I know 20 ft, but I thought the max was 5 range increments,....which would be 100 ft? Right ? I double checked the SRD.

Range Increment: Any attack at less than this distance is not penalized for range. However, each full range increment imposes a cumulative –2 penalty on the attack roll. A thrown weapon has a maximum range of five range increments. A projectile weapon can shoot out to ten range increments.

From SRD. Yea I am good. 20 x5=100 ft max. :) I can move 30ft and throw. Of course a -10 will hurt. ;)

ooc: Ah right, 5 times - could have sworn it was three. No, that was BattleTech. I'm sorry, didn't mean to lead you astray. And it means my bow can go as far as 1100ft. Not that I will hit anything :P

Penny was unsure what the caster was doing over there. Did he sincerely hope to throw a spear this far? She was having problems hitting with her bow, but a spear? But he had spoken... had he cast a spell? Perhaps. Penny fired an arrow at Valen, again striking true. Worried the mage might have ensorcelled the spear she withdrew to the far end of the arena...
