Mezzarn Vs Lyssander the Pale

Mezzarn Starts off in the Blue Zone and Lyssander the Pale starts in the Red.

The priest materializes in the appointed end of the labyrinth, the chainmail's weight on his shoulders mitigated by the cinch around his waist.  He reads a prayer from a scroll, then tucks it back into its scroll-case at his belt; then calls on his god for an additional battle-blessing, and prepares his spiked chain for combat.

Mezzarn hears the toll of the starting bell, or whatever it is, that starts the match, and he immeditaley begins moving.  He isn't in a hurry just yet, and he makes way into the Labarynth.

On hearing the starting gong, the cleric-militant narrows his eyes in concentration...  and abruptly his forms shimmers violently.  When the shimmering ceases, a dwarf, or something like it, stands in his stead, albeit one with unusually pale skin.  With that, the figure begins to head into the labyrinth.

OOC: There may need to be a UMD check for the Alter self, but we can look into that later.

Mezzarn continues to move at a reasonable pace, hoping to get to a location where he might be able to hear his opponents foot falls on the hard stone.

[OOC] ** I rolled a Move Silently check - 23 before modifiers for distance etc.  Not sure where you are so I didn't account for distance, intervening walls and the like - I think these modify the Listen check rather than the MS check in any event.  Lyssander moved his full allotted speed (for the one move action he took), so after applying the -10 penalty per DM BCM's ruling, the Move Silently roll is 13.

Mezzarn Listened carefully but heard nothing that would indicate where his opponent might be.  He took a moment to consider his options.  Ahead and to the right lay a passage, but beyond that it was blocked.  If he went that way he could be walking circles looking.  To his left several passages, any one of which would take his opponent toward where he started.  A reasonable choice, perhaps.

Mezz moved to look around the corner but saw nothing, if he had gone that way he was moving quickly, perhaps...  He turned around and headed in the opposite direction, back the way he'd come, perhaps he could catch him on the other side.

OOC: I looked at your position for this round, just to see if I could have heard you, and it was possible, if I hadn't rolled garbage..  Which means, since I rolled garbage for the Move Silently as well, you should have a good chance of hearing the bumbling dwarf in Chain Mail.  Which will tell you what passage he is in, even if not his exact location.  Your listen has to beat a 1, with a -5 for distance.  I know that will be tough.

OOC:  Rolled 9 before modifiers, so 4 with the -5 penalty, beating 1.

Btw what is your land speed?  At the standard dwarven 20', you shouldn't have been within potential Listening distance of Lyssander (meaning, there should have been a prohibitive amount of wall-stone between the two characters) - do you have some sort of speed-enhancer?  (I recall there was some confusion about land speed in the Mezzarn-Tristram match, but in that match it didn't appear as though you had a speed enhancer, ultimately.)

OOC: Base Land speed is 20, but you can use a standard action as a move action, which he has done each round, moving a total of 8 squares each round.
If you beat my stelath you should then know which corrodor Mezzarn is in, even if his current position isn't specifically known.
Mezz is in the Corridor with the Pentagram at it's center.  You would have heard his steps at or around I/J13.

OOC:  Right - 8 squares is what I figured, but it looks like you've been moving 10 squares per round (I looked back at your positions for the first round - you moved from O29 to O19).  This comes out to a base land speed of 25', which is why I was wondering.

No biggie, obviously no need to re-do those rounds - just wanted to clarify what your speed was for purposes of the rounds going forward.

OOC:  Lyssander makes no effort to chant softly, so it should be easy for you to determine that the chanting comes from the northeast.  And since you can be fairly certain that he isn't in the tunnel ending in the dead end T11/12 (you were just there a moment ago and saw that tunnel was empty), it is logical to conclude that he is in the tunnel just north of there (the tunnel that goes around the corner S/T-7/8).

Mezzarn heard something, chanting.  well that was the best he could describe it.  The sound came from a distance though he was nearly certain that it came from the corridor he had just left.  Well, he thought, he did go up into that corner. Hopefully I can cut him off.  He continued his trek through the labarinth.

The death-cleric cautiously makes his way toward the center of the labyrinth, keeping to the far side of the corridor in case his opponent is hiding behind the corner.  As the central east-west corridor comes into view, he spies Mezzarn heading east, away from him.
