Aerin felt the spell ticking to an end and decided it was time to turn the tables. She stepped out of the mist towards the east, then noticed the dwarf standing inside the stone ring. Not seeing Orophear the priest was her only target. Magically quickened her feet carried her directly before the dwarf swinging her sword in a vicious arc connecting firmly with the dwarf's side. In eerie silence Aerin's invisibility was dispelled and multiple Rashemi warrior-witches appeared before the dwarf like avenging ghosts.

Orophear smiled when he saw Aerin and her multiple images burst from the mist. The elf quickly tracked and fired two arrows at the woman causing two images to blink out of site as he himself became visible once again.

Aerin's appearance does not come as a surprise, yet Gwendol is unable to defend himself from the powerful attack. Assuming a defensive stance, Gwendol activates his magical belt, emptying it completely of its healing powers. The result however, leaves him wondering wether Haela is putting him through a trial of sorts. Silently he tries willing Orophear to thin out the remaining images of Aerin.

Gwendol notices the arrow striking armor, and fixes his gaze on the real Aerin as not to loose her position. Then he manages to dodge and block the barrage of attacks, thanking Haela for protecting him. The half-dragon has a nearly non-penetrable armor however, and Gwendol is nearly powerless in the zone of silence. Steeling himself he moves out of the range of the spell, trying to avoid a retaliatory blow as best he can.

Yes, you hit her last round (and know you did, since it struck her armor), and she hasn't moved since.

This is the relevant passage from the spell description:

By the way Orophear, do you have the precise shot feat or did you apply the -4 firing into melee?

Please, no going back. We're not splitting hairs; it's explicitly described in the description of the spell. Regarding firing into melee, the -4 doesn't change anything: the arrow still strikes your armor.

I see. Well, the -4 applies to the roll, regardless whether it hits or not, for future reference.

I'm sure Orophear will take that into account should he not have the precise shot feat.

Go ahead. You know which is the real Aerin.

You know what: I'm done. Take the points and be happy about it. Everytime I see a message in this bout I'm scared to look at it since it might be again some rules problem that pops up. Honestly: No DM I've EVER played with has handled the mirror image spell that way, nor has ANY GM ever complained about drawing a weapon on a 5ft step. Never ever.

I'm sorry but this isn't worth the aggrevation I feel when looking at this fight.

I'm sorry you feel aggravated, but mirror image is just that: an image. If you strike the right one you know (because it doesn't go away) and so you can just keep striking that one unless the caster does something about it. Likewise, you could have told Orophear his arrows did hit the images due to their significantly lower AC (and we can't know the AC of the images without knowing your DEX, only guess), but didn't. And it's ok, mistakes are easily made (like me messing up the order of spellcasting in the prep-rounds. Again.)


These matches are putting the rules to the extreme in the way the arena fights are set up, but they are here mostly for trying and learning. I never mind losing a fight here, but will do all I can with the character at hand. I expect my opponents to do the same.
