Re: Saellie vs Take in Close-Quarters Combat

Saellie placed a foot in the stirrup, gripped the pommel of the saddle, and hauled herself up into position. She reached down and patted Cheollima's neck. "Good girl." she whispered, and looked up where her cat Kim watched from the audience. "Yes, you too, puss."

She took up her weoldo and held it before her like a lance, and practiced a few swings over her head that would let strike on either side of her steed. Cheollima snorted, and pawed her hooves at the ground.

Ready now, she bowed in her saddle to Take on the other side of the arena.

OOC: I'm going to bed now, so I'll act tomorrow.

Also, my sister's having her baby tomorrow, one way or another, so I'll probably be caught up in waiting and visiting my new nephew/niece, and therefore delayed.

Re: Saellie vs Take in Close-Quarters Combat

OOC: I hope I'm getting the mounted combat right. Let me know if there's an error.

"Ace!" Saellie skipped the reins, pushing Cheollima into a trot around the arena. Unfortunately, the thicket of columns was no place for her to manoeuvre. But it was a place to trap Take.

With her knees and heels pushing gently into Cheollima's flanks, Saellie guided the swift steed around, pushed her faster past the pillars. Then with a hard turn, they came up behind Take where he hid. "Ace!" Saellie shouted her kihap, warning him, then slashed her polearm down, a narrow miss turned aside by his spirit magic.

Re: Saellie vs Take in Close-Quarters Combat

Narrowly deflecting the pole arm, the goliath rolls up and tumbles forward with surprising dexterity for being so bulky, thus denying Lam the opportunity to strike at him as he comes up next to her. While doing so he readies his spear and thrusts it with immense force into the knight, threatening to dismount her and propell her across the arena.

Round 2:
[Move] Tumble to K09 (20) no AoO, draw spear as part of movement
  [Free]
[Standard] Power attack -2/+4, 24 hit! Damage 18, free Bull rush attempt (using KnockBack feat): STR DC 31, or be pushed back 5' for every 5 points between your STR check and mine

Re: Saellie vs Take in Close-Quarters Combat

OOC: Strength check 7... Difference is 24, so 4.8 squares pushed back, rounding up to 5.

How on earth do you handle being Bull Rushed out of the saddle? Can I make a Ride check to stay in? I'm looking it up.

OOC: I haven't the faintest idea, and haven't found anything related to being ousted from the saddle, even though it should be in the rules for mounted combat.

Re: Saellie vs Take in Close-Quarters Combat

OOC: It's not. There's some stuff here though:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20050208a
Though it speaks more of if the mounted character started the bull rush, the rules work both ways: it seems I get to add my mount's strength and size mods to my own.

So my new Strength check is: 7 + 3 (Horse Str) + 4 (Horse size) + 4 (Horse has four legs) = 18. Difference is 13, so Saellie is pushed back 10 feet.

Being mounted, I occupied all squares that my mount did, so I'd land in K5. I assume I'd land prone, so I'll roll a Ride check for a soft fall.

Is this all good for you?

Re: Saellie vs Take in Close-Quarters Combat

OOC: Yeah, I figure that for a conventional bullrush the mount's strength/size/stability comes into play, but the knockback feat targets a specific character. Mind you, I have no issues with this ruling. Your turn.

Re: Saellie vs Take in Close-Quarters Combat

OOC: The horse would absorb some of the force of the blow, as Saellie's leg and butt transfer kinetic energy into the horse. That's not as dirty as it sounds. ;)

"Oof!" The breath was forced from Saellie's belly as the spear slammed into her with terrific force, driving her off and out of her saddle. Suddenly she found herself flat on the ground on the opposite side, aching and grazed. "Did somebody get the true name of that mountain spirit?" she asked nobody, head spinning.

Cursing, she scrambled to her feet, snatching up her weoldo. Mounted fighting would not work against a giant. She had to even the odds. "Cheollima! Flee!" As the horse turned and bolted, she grabbed an elixir from her belt and drank it down, feeling her ki grow large and strong, and the spirit of a giant enter her too.

Now Saellie stood as tall as a giant, like a mountain, and her great weoldo covered a great arc.

Re: Saellie vs Take in Close-Quarters Combat

Take let's the horse escape unharmed, then sets his jaw in determination as the Koryoan knight increases in size and reach. Already she could strike at him with impunity.

Re: Saellie vs Take in Close-Quarters Combat

Saellie cried out as Take grabbed and crushed her around the waist. Whatever their sizes, he still had the strength on her. "Get off, you little pest!" she shouted, trying to grab and shake him off.

"Oh, spirits give me strength," she muttered in utter annoyance. "I yield. Now get off me."

OOC: Yeah, screw it. I yield. You have two levels on me and over twice my strength, and grapple is a boring slow death in the arena.

I just play him to his strengths... :-) Besides, had I gone for another spear hit instead you would have run out of HP considering the 2d6+15 damage...
