* Points of Interest The arena boundaries are the outer walls, 30' above ground level, and 10' below ground level.

    * The pillars are also made of rough marble. They are approximately 5 ft in diameter, and a 5 ft tall section of a pillar is 100 cubic feet. However, you can bring a pillar down by narrowing your focus a bit. The minimum damage you need to deal to bring a pillar down is 25 cubic feet, or 250 damage.
    * Breaking a pillar with sudden force is a STR check (Hardness 10, Hit Points 1000, stone, one piece: DC 30.
    * Climbing the side of a pillar is DC 20. When you can reach the top edge of a pillar, it is DC 10.
    * The top of the pillars are flat-topped and rough, and make good standing platforms.
    * Diagonal movement between the central pillars offers enough space for Large creatures to move unimpeded, and Huge and Gargantuan creates to move while squeezed.

Kail strode into the arena, his arms folded behind his back, whistling a woeful tune. After the door shut behind him the Tiefling stretched slightly,grabbed the chain at his belt and letting it tumble to the ground, the sound of the metal tinkling as it hits the ground.

When the bell sounded Kail smiled wide, the battle was before the Tiefling and his demonic blood boiled for the chaos. Striding forward lazily, the chain trailing behind him, Kail moved to the center pillar and leaned against it on the opposite side of the pillar from Ossian.

Kail winced as Ossian's blades sliced into his flesh. The Tiefling shuffled backwards as he grabbed an amulet around his neck, a smirk spreading across his face, the small creature inside the chuck of amber twitching with the anticipation of being summoned.
"I hope you don't mind my friend coming to play also."

OOC: What square did you 5' step to? My guess is G09.

Do I get to vote on that? Guess not, ouch! Swatting one claw and the poisonous tail aside using each of his weapons, Ossian fails to avoid the second claw which cuts a deep gash out of which blood flows, trickling down his side. Dropping the axe he takes a step back while pulling out a small sack that he tosses at the overgrown monstrosity.

Kail smiled wide as he saw his opponent pull out the bag, knowing full well what was about to happen. Without waiting to see what might happen with his pet the Tiefling burst out and around the center pillar, his hand pulling out his own bag.
"Wait, wait! I have one too!" Kail says happily as he rounds the pillar.
Once he sees Ossian, Kail flings the bag at the man but misses wide, the bag exploding harmlessly against the pillar next to the agile man.
"Nuts!" Kail says as he drops into a defensive stance.

Ossian manages to sidestep the incoming sack, and pulls out a small flask of his own that he tosses Kail's way as he disappears behind the pillar to the right of the tiefling. The flask shatters on impact, and its liquid content ignites immediately.

Kail saw the bottle come flying at him and threw himself into a sideways spin, easily dodging the fire as it exploded next to him.

Ossian winced as the chain hit him, while watching in dismay as the flames burned alright but did nothing to singe the tiefling.
I should have known you've been tempered already! he says, knowing all too well he needs to end this fight soon or lose. Stepping closer he draws a dagger and using a wide sweep with the rapier to distract Kail, the dagger is thrust forward burying the blade in the shoulder.

Kail began to feel a bit woozy as Ossian hit him once again. The Tiefling threw himself to the right, his body twisting and turning just out of range and then he ducked around the pillar. Once "safe" Kail activates his healing belt, his wounds all but closing.

With Kail tumbling out of reach, and the summoned vermin seemingly breaking the tethers that held it in place, Ossian decides to try another tactic. The thought of the giant pincers grabbing hold of him once more did not appeal to him.
Moving at superhuman speed across the sands Ossian drops the rapier, puts the dagger between his teeth and kicks off and at the apex of his jump activates the anklets he wears thus teleporting him an additional ten feet up. He grabs hold of the top of the pillar and crawls up. On top of the pillar he gets his sling out and fires an accurately aimed bullet in one fluid motion.

OOC: Couple of points: Ossian has speed 50, which makes this possible: 20' movement + 6' jump+5' climb (=5*4=20')=46'. The scorpion, while free, moves at half speed and is still entangled.

OOC: Ok, since I know you're a DM I'll just ask you directly. The scorpion has a move of 50', so reaching Ossian in a climb attempt is possible. So my question is, can it climb and attack still? Plus, sorry for the delay, between the holiday weekend and work I've been crazy busy.

Remember that climbing is done at quarter speed without penalty. Furthermore the vermin is forced to attack from below, still climbing, which grants Ossian cover and denies the vermin DEX to AC.
Since it needs to climb 15 feet to attack, and so can't do that without penalty, or spending a full round worth of actions.

OOC: So how long does the tanglefoot last? I don't remember you dtating the round duration.
