OOC: REALLY?! I didn't know that. Ok, do you mind if I redo my action? Also, I didn't know I could act at a penalty, I thought you just couldn't act :(

No, but you may expose yourself to an AoO. But I thought swordsages did unarmed strikes, like a monk? Do you need the sword?

They do not, as far as I know, but just keep it the same. You're going to crush me with that stupid creature anyways so just go and I'll improvise.

Re: Old Grim and Gwendol Twinbeard in the Athenaeum Arcanum

Gwendol looks a little surprised at the impressive acrobatics displayed by the human veteran as he tumbles out of reach, but the dwarf shrugs, picks up the dropped sword and follows after. Hey lad, yer dropped this. he says handing over the sword with a grin. Waving a hand at the musteval he pauses the barrage of magic missiles.

OOC: Sorry, never saw your post.

Re: Old Grim and Gwendol Twinbeard in the Athenaeum Arcanum

The strike is swift and accurate, targeting the weak spot near the armpit in the dwarven armor. Gwendol just has time to pivot away thus avoiding a near fatal strike. Still, the sword cuts deep.
The kaxanar looks undaunted and grins before taking a step back to conjure a weapon made of force that strikes at the swordsage.

Re: Old Grim and Gwendol Twinbeard in the Athenaeum Arcanum

Re: Old Grim and Gwendol Twinbeard in the Athenaeum Arcanum

The dwarf once more finds his wards, armor and battle-honed reflexes to be no match for the human, whose sword draws blood yet again. Grunting under the pain Gwendol wills away the clinging shadows. He takes a step away while praying to Haela to grant him more martial skill and power.
The divine weapon meanwhile continues making ineffectual attacks.

The tiny guardinal vanishes from view.

Re: Old Grim and Gwendol Twinbeard in the Athenaeum Arcanum

Grim knew this was not going his ay an he needed some distance between himself, the dwarf and his pesky pet. The Swordsage took off north and ducked around the corner and quickly activated his belt once again, the meager amount of healing energies barely keeping the human upright.

[Move] Standard Move: 25' to E04
[Standard] Activate Healing Belt: 1 charge: 6 hp

Status:
  Initiative: 23
AC (Touch AC): 23(19)(vs Gwendol) 19(15)(vs musteval)

Re: Old Grim and Gwendol Twinbeard in the Athenaeum Arcanum

Gwendol sets off after the retreating human and while not quite being able to keep up, still covers enough ground to launch an attack with the spiritual weapon which seems to catch Grim by surprise as the divine blade manages to make a deep cut.
While the swordsage is within reach, Gwendol judges that part of the glass shelves between them will provide his opponent with enough cover that any strikes have but a slim chance of connecting. While Haela Brightaxe is indeed the Luckmaiden, her champion is also aware that sometimes time is better spent doing other things to increase your luck in battle rather than trying your luck at every single occasion. Finishing the last syllable of dwarven prayer there is a swirl of mist around Gwendol's hand that coalesce into a battleaxe made of swirling ice.

Of the guardinal nothing is seen, but somehow the kaxanar's wounds are magically closing, at least to some extent.

Round 7:
  [Move] Move to D05
  [Free]
[Standard] Cast Ice Axe, spiritual weapon (30), damage 9

  Initiative: 15
  AC (Touch AC): 23 (14)

  Damage Dealt:   15

Effects: Shield of faith (+3 AC) 6 mins, Summon monster III 4 rounds, Owl's Wisdom (+4 WIS) 6 mins, Resist Energy (Fire) 60 mins, Spiritual weapon 4 rounds, Divine favor +3 to attack/damage 1 min, Ice axe 6 rounds

Musteval Guardinal

  [Move] ?
  [Free]
[Standard] Lay on hands (heal 11 HP)

  AC (Touch AC): 20 (16)

  Damage Taken:   0
  Damage Dealt:   39

Final position: D05, Musteval (invisible)

I understand. It's a pity your first attacks missed as they would have put a fairly big dent in Gwendol's HP pool. I think fighting Gawain will be a more even bout.

Re: Old Grim and Gwendol Twinbeard in the Athenaeum Arcanum

Bah! It has nothing to do with that and everything to do with the fact you go up against a cleric of your level and more. Without casting of your own this fight is nearly impossible to win. This is a useful piece of information for the real fights in adventures. Look at Kail vs Ossian for example: who came out victorious (and why)? It's not to say that fighters are useless, far from it, but it's very difficult to win on your own, and without using tricks not available in the arena.

Well, I did ask if you'd rather meet someone else. And it's not like you don't have OOC knowledge of Gwendol's powers and tactics. That said, you might want to try out a fight against Tristram or Take? The first is likely not quite up to the challenge, but the second can be even.

Yeah, I know how Tristram fights :) And we should be seeing how Gawain and Grim fair against one another in the Dojo.
