Re: Team Nova vs Team Rockstar: Levis & Orophear vs Gawain & Qui

Taking a deep breath, Gawain assumes the defensive Ancestral Sword stance before launching into a series of arcane gestures and incantations. The first has no visible effect, the second one though... his face contorts and a strong jaw juts out, and a webbed crest rises from the base of his neck til the forehead. His hands turn into claws, and a tail suddenly appears, while the skin gets a thick layer of scales. Always conscious of his appearance, Gawain alters the color of the scales from the natural green to a rather pleasant silver sheen.

Prep Round 1:
  [Move] Draw Greatsword
[Free] (swift) Devoted spirit stance (2 HP healed/hit)
  [Standard] Cast Expeditious retreat

Prep Round 2:
  [Move]
  [Free]
  [Standard] Cast alter self (Tren)

  Initiative: 3
  AC (Touch AC): 27 (13)

  Damage Taken:   0
  Damage Dealt:   0

Effects: Expeditious Retreat +30' speed 4 mins, Alter self 40 mins

Final position B2

Levis entered the arena, and was immediately unsettled by the lava beneath her. She went about her routine, bringing on her shadow-armour. Then, as if the light simply didn't want to touch her, she darkened as if standing in a shadow. She looked to her elven companion, and with a determined nod, she waited for the gong.

Re: Team Nova vs Team Rockstar: Levis & Orophear vs Gawain & Qui

OOC: Got it Solo!

Levis: I believe it's lava...I think.

As soon as he enters the strange arena Orophear begins to spell cast. As the spell finished Orophear drew out his sword and a wand, casting a spell from the wand and then dropping it to the floor.
"Good luck young one." the elf says as he gives his opponents a quick salute with his beloved sword.

  [Move] Draw Sword

Prep Round 2:
  [Move] Draw Wand
[Standard] Use wand: cast Cat's Grace on self

  Damage Taken:
  Damage Dealt:

Effects:

Bull's Strength: +4 to STR, Duration: 8 minutes

Read the description: the map is essentially a maze of walkways suspended over lava (a long way down). The portals add an element of luck or chance to the movement as no-one knows where one end up after passing through. This pleases our local subject of Tymora (Quinlan)! :-)

Quinlan waves to the couple way over on the opposite side Best of Luck!

He then starts singing: We are the champoins my friend, and we'll keep on fighting 'til the end... before making the gestures and incantations of a spell. The effects are quite noticable as wings suddenly protrude out his back.

OOC: Messed up royally with my preps and planned actions. Sorry for the confusion. I'll just keep it simple right now... disregard the rolling of portal effects in the dice log.

Quinlan moves along the walkway, fitting an arrow to his bowstring and firing as soon as he can targeting the young woman.

Re: Team Nova vs Team Rockstar: Levis & Orophear vs Gawain & Qui

Before the arrow ever struck Levis Orophear was off and running, a spell already forming on his lips. As soon as he stopped the elf pointed in Quinlan's direction and a brilliant crackling ray of pure electricity shot out from his hand, streaking across the arena, snaking around any obstacle between the two and striking home in the dark skinned bard's chest.

Round 1:
  [Move] Move 30' to W21
[Standard] Cast Seeking Ray: Ranged Touch Attack: 16 (HIT!)(ignores all concealment except total), damage: 18 (electrical), +4 to all rays for 8 rounds

Status:
  Initiative: 12
  AC (Touch AC): 23(17)

  Damage Taken:
  Damage Dealt: 18(Q)

Effects:

Bull's Strength: +4 to STR, Duration: 8 minutes

Cat's Grace: +4 to DEX, Duration: 3 minutes

Seeking Ray: +4 to hit Quinlan with rays: 8 rounds

Levis was barely moving when the arrow started flying at her. She made a quick gesture and it seemed as if her shadow reached up from the ground to take the arrow for her.

OOC: Flatfooted means you cannot take an immediate action. You are flatfooted until your turn in the initiative order comes up and you get to act for the first time in combat. Unless you have a class feature or ongoing effect that prevents you from being flatfooted.

I thought you were flat-footed if you were caught in a surprise round. Additionally, there's technically two rounds that happen before the fight actually starts, So I would be aware of combat.

Re: Team Nova vs Team Rockstar: Levis & Orophear vs Gawain & Qui

Technically those rounds are prep rounds where we act outside of initiative.

And surprise isn't necessary, please see below:

quote:
Initiative Checks
At the start of a battle, each combatant makes an initiative check. An initiative check is a Dexterity check. Each character applies his or her Dexterity modifier to the roll. Characters act in order, counting down from highest result to lowest. In every round that follows, the characters act in the same order (unless a character takes an action that results in his or her initiative changing; see Special Initiative Actions).

If two or more combatants have the same initiative check result, the combatants who are tied act in order of total initiative modifier (highest first). If there is still a tie, the tied characters should roll again to determine which one of them goes before the other.

Flat-Footed
At the start of a battle, before you have had a chance to act (specifically, before your first regular turn in the initiative order), you are flat-footed. You can’t use your Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) while flat-footed. Barbarians and rogues have the uncanny dodge extraordinary ability, which allows them to avoid losing their Dexterity bonus to AC due to being flat-footed.

A flat-footed character can’t make attacks of opportunity.

Re: Team Nova vs Team Rockstar: Levis & Orophear vs Gawain & Qui

Sure. Though I'm dissatisfied with the way prep rounds are setup in this case. If we're aware of what spells, if any, the opponents cast in their prep rounds, then we're aware that combat will be starting, then we're going to be ready for it.
Shame I didn't take ranks in common sense, though.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Levis wasn't expecting the arrow, and before she could even react, the arrow penetrated through her shadow armour and embedded into her shoulder. She gave a little shriek, but quickly gritted her teeth and silenced herself. She needed to be strong, and this was the least of things to worry about where she had come from.
She knew she had to be ready, so she immediately began casting a spell. Moments later, her body began to flicker and shimmer, appearing for brief instances in places she might be.

Round 1:
 [move] to V22
 [standard] Cast flicker.

Status:
 Initiative: 9
 AC: 17(9)

Damage Taken: 10
Damage given: 0

Effects: Steel Shadows (+6 AC), Caul of Shadows (+2 AC)

Final Position: V22

Re: Team Nova vs Team Rockstar: Levis & Orophear vs Gawain & Qui

OOC: You are not surprised, just flatfooted. This is why winning initative actually matters more than just getting to go first, and why Barbarians and rogues (eventually) have an edge. There is a 9th-level wizard spell that prevents the caster from ever being flatfooted.
In any case I don't see why you need to roll for concentration: this isn't ongoing damage so you can act completely unhindered.

So, you get to Flicker. Are you using it this round or shall I have Gawain take his actions?

Casters are complicated. >_>

I don't know when I need to make a concentration I thought it was whenever I take damage in a round. No I'm not using the flicker.

Edit: OOOOohh! I just reread the concentration. It's damaged during an action IE, AoOs and such. >_> My bad.
