Re: Stone Circle match

In reply to Adamar Venali (msg # 996):

Nothing in the climb skill says quadrupeds cannot climb. Or other sorts of nonstandard creatures.

While the srd says you need "both hands" free to climb, plenty of non-handed creatures have bonuses to climb or even climb speeds.

As an argument for creatures with hooves climbing, look at mountain goats.

Re: Stone Circle match

All creature have grapple check modifiers, this doesn't mean they can initiate a grapple. Let me take a look at what exactly you want to do.

Well yeah, but have you ever witnessed a goat climb a pole? It just makes me chuckle and scared all in one thought.

Re: Stone Circle match

I can just use the bison for a cover bonus to ac and ready move actions away from the arrows, should it not be able to make certain climb checks (which would be a reasonable house rule). So I'm good either way :)

Re: Stone Circle match

The bison could "climb" up a ledge if it can run, jump, and get high enough to drag itself up. The pillars are however not wide enough for it to stand, so in this case it doesn't work. Using the bison as cover works wonder though, and since it's large you can possibly get total cover.

Re: Stone Circle match

You do, always, but for the web to stay it needs "two or more diametrically opposed solid surfaces", which means the final layout of the web will depend on the actual layout of the room or place in which it is cast. In this arena, Garath uses the force field ceiling and the floor to anchor his web, and looking at how the spell is cast (height) and area of effect we try to determine which tiles are actually affected.

Re: Stone Circle match

Well, I have a bunch of toons you haven't met:

A half-drow bard/ranger (ECL 6)
A human knight (ECL 5)
A goliath monk/cleric/fighter (ECL 6)
A human bard/crusader (ECL 6)

Try challenging one of them IC!

Also, are you going to update the Arena records? I have two wins that haven't yet been record, one loss that's yet to be recorded, and a draw as well.

Yes, I do keep track of those. Just haven't gotten around of doing the updates with all the other stuff needing to keep track of. Picked an adversary yet?

It's a tough call. Seeing as how you know how my character functions, what do you think is most fair?

Re: Stone Circle match

Fair? For whom? :-)

I'll have trouble against you with anyone but Gwendol. The knight is obviously the weakest of them, but not without assets either. The Bard/ranger is a ranged fighter, the rest melee.

I also have an ECL 3 rogue, but that's not even worth considering.

I'll be able to take Gwendol when I hit 7. I get a pretty new Mystery. :)

You wish! :-)

Find a partner then and I'll put together a suitable tag team. Quinlan and Gawain would be a pretty cool team: D&D Rockstars!

Re: Stone Circle match

A rules question, while I wait for my arena match to resume:

DM Solo, regarding your ruling that arena contestants begin Round 1 flat-footed:  You may recall a match against Aerin, a while back (ended December 2009), in which DM Raven took a different view.  (Gwendol and Quinlan were in that match, too.)

I believe the question may have been referred to the DM Lounge at the time, but I don't recall a definitive answer.  Since we have conflicting rulings from different DMs, I think it may be time to get a consensus answer on this...

Oh, and this thread is above 1000 posts, please create a new thread...
