Masquerade clans in Requiem

I never really fell into Requiem when the change came. Strange really as I play all other nWoD games so far but when it comes to the Masquerade vs Requiem the later just doesn't... do it for me.
To me the problem is the content, the setting Masquerade gave was (to me at least) too good to stop using. In the best of worlds using the Requiem rules with the Masquerade setting would be the best solution in my book so I ask if anyone has tried to connect the old clans with the new  bloodlines.

The simple one are there,

malkavians - malkovians (ventrue)
ventrue - ventrue
toreador - toreador (daeva)
nosferatu - nosferatu
gangrel - gangrel
brujah - bruja (gangrel)
lasombra - khaibit (mekhet)

Any takers for the rest?

Re: Masquerade clans in Requiem

This is one of the re... No it was THE reason why I didn't play Requiem at first when it came out. I bought the core book yes and when I began reading after being told it was a whole new setting I saw the Clans and Disciplines of old and I was "You're kidding me right?" And it was an instant turn off.

I made peace with that now, playing back since 2006 and having a blast at it and going to conventions and everything BUT I still feel I was played by White Wolf and I still don't like the fact old clans are in the new setting.

What really saved it for me?

Re: Masquerade clans in Requiem

So does that turn you off from all new editions of things? Are you irritated that they keep calling it "Magic Missile" even after 4 editions of D&D? Or that in Warhammer they still have Dwarves and Empire armies after 7 editions?

The Gangrel and Nosferatu were solid concepts that have been around from the beginning. Same with the Ventrue. They didn't need to be changed because they fit perfectly into the new setting.

What else would you call Celerity or Fortitude that wouldn't sound stupid compared to their old names? I figured that they changed well over 50% of the game for the new edition... it's not a completely new game system after all, just a revised new edition.

Re: Masquerade clans in Requiem

For me that really loves the setting of Masquerade and the rules of Requiem to mix them would be the perfect choice... not something that is easily done though and because of that I still play in Masquerade even if I own the new books too.

Re: Masquerade clans in Requiem

VtR doesn't hold a candle to VtM, but it seems like that's all I can find to play in now with the people I game with.  So I am stuck using VtR.  Ugh...

I like vtr better  only the back  if roll 1 you don't cancel Success and  it feels more vampire to me. Yes it has some problems but that why you storyteller should look through the book and take out what  he or she does not like

Re: Masquerade clans in Requiem

Like Johan, I like the old background from Masquerade much better than the, well, what can only be described as a lack of background of Reqiuem. That said, I vastly prefer the system in Reqiuem.

I don't see any problem with translating the clans from one to the other. It's just background material, the disciplines are practically all pretty much the same.

Re: Masquerade clans in Requiem

One has to give credit where the credit is due. The Requiem did address some of the issues one could find in the Masquerade, it's just the issue of value for money and bothering to learn a new system. And for what? A couple of devotions and Coils of the Dragon. It's just that White Wolf could have and should have done more. At least as much as they did in Scion.

Re: Masquerade clans in Requiem

Simple, Requiem could just come up with another Covenant that thinks that Caine is the first vampire and the book of Nod is true. Simple, done, Masquerade Background is back in effect. It even works with the clans, and bloodlines, whos to say the Ravnos did not really come from the Gangrel, Maybe Caine sired five kindred and not three. Who Knows. I Nod Covenant would be interesting to see.
