Geist: the Sin-Eaters

Anyone else psyched about this? The old Wraith was always a personal fav. of mine and the new game seems to include a lot of what I loved about it.

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

I liked Wraith, but since this seems to involve the living a lot more than that, I think I'm going to enjoy it more.

Have they announced a release date yet?

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

Quickstart rules are released, that happens around two months before the product comes out. Give or take.

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

I'd be interested in hearing how well it plays. I liked Wraith quite a lot.

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

I'd still like to get involved with the quick-start game, but I was wondering who else here was getting the main rulebook, and who was up for playing a game? I'm waiting on my copy to arrive, but I have a couple of ideas that might work if I get around to running a game.

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

Have you guys heard anything about the apparent confirmation at Gencon that the only Geist books are going to be the core rulebook and Book of the Dead?

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

Apparently... no, it isn't. The developers have said there are only the 2 books planned.

Having read the main book though, it's very thorough. I honestly can't see what they could add to it.

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

I was never a fan of the 'sparsely informative core book + billion supplements' format, so I welcome this move.  As a GM, I like being able to buy just one or two books and have the entire game.  So if anything, this decision makes the game appeal to me more as something I would want to buy.

(btw for anyone who remembers me... after 2 years haitus I appear to have come back to RPOL!)

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

I will say that this book is neatly laid out, and has a lot of character.  And that's before getting to the meat of it. :)

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

I'm not saying it won't be a great game, I'm pretty sure it is, but I am saying that even the other great games (Changeling, Hunter) were enriched with the in depth looks the other books gave, and I will problably miss that.

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

Honestly, Geist (just the core book) probably contains about as much setting and flavour as at least the Hunter/Changeling core books + 2-3 sourcebooks. They cover pretty much everything.

You really need to read it to get that though.

EDIT: And since Hunter and Changeling are my two favourite nWoD games at present (I was/still am a Vamp fanboy though ;) ), I don't say the above lightly.

Re: Geist: the Sin-Eaters

I think for me, I prefer to just have the basic game setting, and then to take that and create my own world around it.  The reason I never buy many supplements, even for games I really like, is because I rarely find anything of use within them.  Too much additional information is just constrictive when it comes to the stories I want to tell.

But different things for different people!

MILLANDSON hit the nail on the head.

White Wolf appears to have gone all out.  There's a lot of information there, more than what you might get from a normal core book.  White Wolf crammed tons of the setting's flavour into it.
