Old World of Darkness MMO

Thought some of you might be interested in this little tid bit that I came across.

http://www.massively.com/2010/...pire-the-masquerade/

I have no clue how reliable the site massively is, so there's a chance this is a hoax but the trailer showed makes me believe it's true.  Sounds like it will just be VTM at the start, but considered that was their biggest title it makes sense.

Re: Old World of Darkness MMO

This has been common knowledge for about a year now, that White Wolf were coming up with an MMO. The only surprise for most people is that rather than support their current incarnation of the World of Darkness, they decided to ignore it and go back to the no-longer supported and out-of-print Old World of Darkness... because that makes so much sense. That little fact was announced at the Grand Masquerade event White Wolf ran in New Orleans a few days ago.

But yea, it's being talked about quite a bit on the White Wolf forums.

Re: Old World of Darkness MMO

Thanks for posting about it. I don't hang out at the official forums much and didn't know. Sounds interesting, maybe it'll be the first MMO I actually play. :)

Re: Old World of Darkness MMO

It's not really a huge surprise that they used Vampire: the Masquerade for the basis of an MMO.

The current World of Darkness is all about edgy, sandbox horror.  It's a toolbox approach.  Emphasis on the sandbox/toolbox.  No overarching plot driving the world in a particular direction, no singular outcome at the end.

Where as VtM (and the previous WoD) has an overarching plot.  Not to mention, many more years of story, NPCs, and information, than the Requiem.  Sure, they could have created something for the Requiem, but why waste the huge amount of IP they already have with Masquerade?  Also, by doing this, they avoid potentially robbing one medium to fill another.

It also meshes quite nicely with the fact that they are creating conversion documents for VtM and VtR, so that you can freely convert characters, NPCs and other things from one system to the other and back again.

Rumor has it that they may do this for other games in the oWoD line that have a fairly direct successor in the current WoD.
