Promethean: The Created

So I just read Promethean for the first time.  I thought it was awesome, and I now totally want to play one (and hence interesting me in NWoD for the first time).

Does anyone have any experiences of playing or running it that they want to share?

Re: Promethean: The Created

I neither ran nor played Promethean myself but I think it's an excellent game. The two supplements that came out to this day were a fine read and contained a lot of insight into the setting.

Re: Promethean: The Created

I am playing in an RPOL Promethean game, and am running one on RPOL and one in RL. It is a great game, one of the best White Wolf works I have seen to date :)

Re: Promethean: The Created

I ran a game tabletop (Water of Life, in the back of the book) and attempted to run one here on Rpol (Virtue and Power).

Long stories short: I found the game difficult to run both times. Let me just say that the game is not suited to beginning roleplayers, or else it quickly becomes a game of stereotypes (shut up, Frankenstein, you big dumb sack of bolts!) and unfounded angst. The game is meant to be tragic, but unless all the players are sufficiently versed in the game literature and what it means to be Promethean, it has high potential to go wrong.

Also, I don't recommend Virtue and Power for online play. There are scenes that depend on players to do things that come more naturally to tabletop play (get bored with certain treatment) than online play.

Bottom line: it seems like an interesting game, but I'm going to hold off (possibly indefinitely) before trying to run another. I don't think I'll be buying any more of the books.

Re: Promethean: The Created

I'd say based on that post, however, it should be acceptable for you to simply join her (?) to your game and send her a PM opening up for discussion...

Or would that be against the rules?

Re: Promethean: The Created

If both parties agree, by all means.

Eventually there will be rMail to take care of these things when the next version of RPoL gets here.

Re: Promethean: The Created

I have no objections.  :-)

I can also be PMed via a RTJ in my own game (pretty easily locatable).

Gosh, so much complexity.  Roll on the new version of RPOL!

Btw... I am indeed, very much a 'her'. ;-)

Back on topic meanwhile...

How are you guys finding the group dynamics of several Prometheans together?  Given that they exude 'disquiet', revolting mortals and driving away those around them, ultimately including other Prometheans, is this working out alright?  Just providing for interesting dramatic tension or is it causing a problem in a group game?

Re: Promethean: The Created

Misery loves company. Honestly, the best part of Virtue and Power, while it lasted, was the interaction between the characters.

Re: Promethean: The Created

I've started to read through the book and I'm wondering how I'll be making parties of Promotheans. I mean, they are solitary monsters who search for their humanity. How is a GM supposed to bring them together ?

It's not that I ain't creative. I'm running a RL nWoD game with 4 players and it's going smoothly but I just don't see how I'm gonna turn Promothean in a game for more than one player (wich I don't really like).

Re: Promethean: The Created

The Prometheans throng together in order to help each other on their respective quests for humanity. Misery loves company, there is strength in numbers, et cetera.

Plus there are certain benefits for being a member of an alchemically pacted throng. I can't remember them off the top of my head, but I believe they involve the Wasteland effect and a general balancing of the group's humours if they are members of different Lineages.

Re: Promethean: The Created

When the Prometheans meet they automatically notice one thing, they don't reject each other by default. In a world where even the earth they walk upon is anathema to them, the Created find solace in the fact there are others like them, who won't just accept them, but they will also help you in need.

Azoth calls to Azoth, don't forget that.

Re: Promethean: The Created

The PC halo is strong in that one... :)

I don't think that all Prometheans should like each other right off-some will click, but they all have unbalanced personalities by definition-but it should be like meeting a fellow whatever-you-are when you're travelling in a strange country.

As for getting a largeish throng together-that's what Quashmallim are for.  Doesn't every game have this problem, to some extent?

I am not saying that Created like each other right off, rather that they don't hate each other right off...

Re: Promethean: The Created

Sorry.  My mistake, though I wasn't addressing just you.

But still, lots of reasons to punch each other-especially if something about their Azoth is off.  I wish they were a little more specific about what a promethan picked up on the doppler, but eh.

Re: Promethean: The Created

One simple question came to mind while reading Centimanus. Why do they have a polar bear at the end of their name ?

And, is it just me or TMNT could be made as Pandorans ? ^^

They don't seem like hunger driven monsters to me... well, maybe except Michangelo!

I'd make them Ishtari or Sebek if it was me...

I'm starting up a PtC game. Would it be wrong to start all players with some EXP? Also any suggestions for starting plot?

Re: Promethean: The Created

I wouldn't say it would be "wrong" to give them XP. It depends on how you like to play.

Also, I'm going to semi-restate what I said above in this thread: I recommend against Water of Life or Power and Virtue (some of the published Promethean plots). They're a bit restrictive and an inspired ST could probably have more fun winging a plot.

It never hurts to start off with some action in an RPG. Maybe the group just got to town and accidentally starts a fight. Or better yet, a riot. Go from there. Best of luck.
